Mrs juju is still fighting
Been about 3 years I guess since I posted. Last time I mentioned that my wifes cancer had come back with a vengeance and that she would need 18 chemo treatments. Seems that was optimistic. She just completed here 47th chemo and it looks like they will continue for the rest of her life. Every 3 weeks.
The cancer spread to her brain and she has endured 15 whole brain radiation treatments (this was 2 years ago) which has impacted her short term memory and ability to perform simple tasks like cooking or using a manual wheelchair. She cant grasp the concept of how to turn them. About 9 months ago 3 new brain tumors were discovered and they did targeted radiation on those. It stopped the growth but didnt resolve them. Those tumors are located in the portion of her brain that controls motor function and balance. As a result she cant stand without assistance or even walk without using a walker and even then she falls frequently. In addition she will have to goto the bathroom urgently with very little warning.
Getting her to eat is a chore and going out to eat is out of the question due to her shaky motor skills and bathroom issues.
We tried to get her in a few clinical trials but have been unsuccessful so far.
The reason I posted all this besides wanting to give an update is that I am now on a fixed income (SS) and she is on disability (of course) and I would
like to be able to take here a few places within a couple house drive from where we live in California. Such as Grand canyon, the ocean, where we used to live in San Francisco, Monterrey and so forth. It is impossible to do so as is well simply because I cant afford both the gas and the hotel (gas is 4 and change a gallon here) and the cost of eating out. Not to mention that when she needs a restroom she needs one within a few minutes.
I have never been one to ask for handouts or help but I really dont know what else to do so I started a gofundme to try and get enough funds to get a small tow able travel trailer (one that my 2007 truck can pull) which would enable us to travel while still being near a restroom all the time.
I have not posted this gofundme on any boards, FB or anywhere yet. I wanted the opinions of the people here because I know if this place is anything like it was when I was a regular here you guys and gals will speak your minds and give an unbiased opinion/view. And thats what I need.
I am hesitant to post it anywhere because it just seems trivial compared to what other folks need funds for and I know that we are not alone in this boat.
I dont have much family to run it by so I am asking y'all if I am being selfish, should I do it, would I be taking money potentially away from someone who could use it more, am I stupid for even considering it. Fuck, I just dont know. Believe me when I say it. I am very conflicted about doing this or not.
So if you would, please leave your thoughts about it here. And be honest. I wont take anything negative the wrong way, I need honest opinions not sympathy or coddling.
You really cant understand how difficult it is for me to even admit that I am considering this route. Much less in asking for folks I dont know to weigh in on the idea.
Finally, dont ask for the gofundme account because I wont give it. Not here or in email or PM's. This thread is for me to get some feedback and to help me make a decision. If after yall weigh in and I have a chance to read and absorb them I decide to go forward I will let you know at that time.
As usual thanks

I feel for you. Sorry to hear. 0 -
I am not opposed to sending you some for her. Just let me know. Don 0 -
In your case, it is not unreasonable. GOFUNDME in most cases has become a flop for takers. Not in this case, imo,,start one and post it . 0 -
Same here. Juju, you still have my number? Give me a call please!dcon12 wrote:I am not opposed to sending you some for her. Just let me know. Don0 -
I've never given to a go fund me. But I'm willing to change.
I refuse to give to charities, with their boards, and CEOs.
Instead, I look for opurtunities to help individuals, or fellow members who help others.
God bless, brother.0 -
I am so Sorry to hear that Brother.
I am including you both in my Prayers.
Please lean on us. This is an inclusive supportive Family.
God Bless you both.0 -
I?m in. Set it up, post it. 0 -
I don't see anything about this as selfish.
Circumstances have put you in a position where you wife has limited quality of life. The fact that you've stood by your wedding vows (that thick and thin part) and want to bring some small joy to her is commendable.0 -
Juju- My prayers are with you and your family.
Let us know how we can contribute.

Many people here understand the cancer equation more than you realize...
In addition to a number of members who have passed while fighting cancer (like Nord) others have endured and passed on survival tips (like Dave)...
At lease a half dozen long term prominent posters are battling or have battled cancer and have to some degree acknowledged the struggle and shared details of the ordeal...
On 11/16 I was diagnosed with advanced terminal end stage - stage IV cancer and referred to hospice - with a life expectancy of less then 30 days - won't make it to Christmas 2016
Since I was dead anyway I began to make a record of the struggle here - through iron infusion therapy and 6 months of weekly platinum based chemo and intense targeted radiation treatment...
I survived tumor reduction and removal - an ostomy - the loss of 210 lbs - flesh eating staff infection - 20+ follow up surgeries - feeding tubes - comas - pic lines - power ports - an inoperable brain tumor - second round of radiation treatment and prophylactic chemo - wound vac - crippling intense advanced neuropathy - constant level 7 to 10 pain - crippling side effects - bankruptcy - being forced to apply for ssi disability...
So many here have born personal witness to or experienced cancer themselves or in a loved one - or followed my cancer saga threads closely (and often in shocked mortified horrified stunned silence...
Know that as a group they know and care about your circumstances...
I would be dead without their support and understanding.

I think if their were ever a reason for a go fund me yours would be a good one, not selfish probably more noble in that you want to provide some quality of life for your wife.
For now prayers asked for your family.0 -

Individually we might not be able to do much, but as a group we may do great things.
Wish you the best.0 -
JuJu, I have just visited this forum for the past few days after a many, many year hiatus and was pleasantly surprised to see you post. I wish it would have been better news.
I remember you were one of the most generous members when I was active here and I understand the hardship from medical issues. You may remember I had (and still have to a lesser extent) severe back issues. Funds and those issues kept me from finally getting to meet you on a hunting trip you offered on this forum. Though we aren't doing the best, I would be happy to donate to the cause. Set it up, or if you prefer PM with address or Paypal even if you use it (free for friends and family).0 -
Just got off the phone with him, more than an hour trying to catch up on the 4? yrs. All things considered, he's doing well. This is the man that originated the gun forum giveaway, and he gave away guns, and not just on this forum! To do that, he took an extra job in a pawn shop to get the deals on them.
This is his "make a wish" for a special person, that made him the person he is, let's make this happen!0 -

Humility is without a doubt the greatest virtue one can possess. I am amazed at how much compassion this group can show when a person they have never met face to face is in need..
I would like to help you give your wife this wonderful memory. You are doing something awesome from the heart! God bless you.0 -
I agree with what Dave (Trap55) said. Mike (juju) is the man that basically started the giveaways on GunBroker. Just giving Mike credit here, I was inspired by him to give away the 22 rifles to kids that I did. I was one of the recipients of his firearm giveaways. With his rather original way of conducting the giveaway by having the trivia questions about members here on the forum. When he could, he was generous to a fault. Thank you Mike.TRAP55 wrote:This is the man that originated the gun forum giveaway, and he gave away guns, and not just on this forum! Mike, great to hear from you, wish it was better news. As to whether or not you are being selfish, I would come and slap you upside the head if I could. You are AGAIN being generous to a fault. This time for the woman that means everything to you. You want to give her anything and everything that you possibly can. Times change, and I see NOTHING WRONG with asking for a little help. I don't think you have a selfish bone in your body. You asked for an honest opinion, and this is mine.
I would GLADLY donate, I tried emailing you a year or two ago, but your old email didn't work anymore. Please PM-email me.0 -

Since him asking for help here instead of giving it is a first, he's overthinking what we think, about him asking. He'll check this thread when she's sleeping and see he needs to quit thinking about it, and just do it.
Like Pick, I had to shake my head when I saw the "selfish" part....and it's doing something for someone else? Yeah the slap upside the head is needed, but you'll have to stand in line.0 -
Even though I don't know you, I am praying for your wife as well as for you.
When you decide to let us know where the account is,....I am in.
You have nothing to feel guilty about, although I know how you must feel, considering I am also not a person that is used to asking anyone for help of any kind.
Things change for all of us, and you need to care for your wife at this point, and enjoy your time together as much as possible.
Let's get this done.0 -
