NASCAR-stick a fork in them
Just flipped to the Bristol race. Looks like a few hundred people there. Whole sections empty. Not that long ago, it was consistently sold out, over 100,000 seats.

I know it's not PC to speak it out loud but several factors killed NASCAR
Women drivers
African American drivers
Mexican drivers
Better safety gear dramatically cutting down crashes and injuries and deaths of drivers
Better fencing and netting cutting down on tires leaving the track and injuring or killing fans in the stands
As noted banning the confederate flag and related symbols
Loss of many alcohol and tobacco sponsors
Overpriced tickets and concession prices
Raising the cost to bring trailers or rv's to park and tailgate - greed in taking to big a bite
To many race formats - like the same drivers on the same tracks in the same cars made to resemble pick up trucks
Heavy decline in manufacturer support and sponsorship - race on Sunday sell on Monday has nearly dried up
Less driver fights and feuds - less of a team rivalry and brand rivalry
The cars on the track bear zero resemble to the cars at the dealership except for certain cosmetic and badging cues
White flight from certain areas in the southern states
Seeming complete lack of connection to the younger kids or the next generation
More toys and commemorative items for adults at high prices than entry level kids merch
I don't necessarily endorse these issues just taking note of the obvious

Lots of truth in mrmikes post . I would add the abandonment of the older tracks like Rockingham and the like .Truly they are safer cars today but they are boring . Everybody is driving the same chassis and the bodies only superfi look like production autos Bring back a truly ?stock car ? such we had in the 70?s and watch the rejuvenation of the sport 0 -
I lost interest in Nascar when they closed the Wilkesboro track here in NC. That was back in the mid 90's. 0 -

a lot of true reasons I will add making the cars all the same cutting back on speed and keeping the cars bunched together to give all th esponsers equal camera time to gain more money and free roundly roundly commercials the entire race
driver safety is important I do not want to see any one killed . but might as well have a merry go round now and draw numbers to what horse they get
I recall tony Stewart many years ago said something like just tell me where to finish get me a car and lets go i just want to drive ( not exact but close to what he said in a interview ) he was well on track back then
most of us grew up in a car culture and a lot of us raced to some degree be it street or on the track(s) not so much any more with younger generations have moved on0 -

I am not outraged that the racial make up of pro basketball players does not reflect the true population of the country and has few or zero Caucasian or Irish representation - that it's mostly African Americans featured
I am not outraged that most professional hockey players are Canadian or Russian Caucasians and that there are not many Mexican or African American players
I don't expect there to be handicapped or wheelchair bound players in either sport
It's like wondering aloud why so many good senior non commissioned officers in the US military are Samoan or from Tonga or Fiji
Or stating that there are amazing landscapers and concrete workers or construction / house building folk who hail from Mexico
You cannot even appear to discuss these issues or debate the salient points or even be accused of thinking silently about such things anymore
Nobody here supports Nazi's or skinheads or the clan but the second anyone mentions stereotypes they are labeled racist
Why did NASCAR and it's fan base get labeled as redneck poor white trash racists but the NBA and NAACP seeming to escape such labels
These unspoken cultural memes all helped destroy NASCAR - which was already imploding due to some of the issues addressed above

I use to really enjoy NACAR,way back when it was racing.

Micro-managed to death by greedy NASCAR.
NASCAR wants equal cars and equal drivers.
How can 40 cars run 500 miles then all finish within inches of the next car.
Go back a couple years and re-watch the races--the minute Kyle Busch (Just an example) gets his hands on a great car and starts to pull away from the pack...NASCAR throws a phony caution to bunch 'em back up! Probably a new rule next year - if the leader gets 1/4 lap ahead; yellow flag!
And the double file restarts! Are you pooping me? A driver (Kyle Busch, for example) works hard to get out front then has to restart side by side with the 2nd place car.
Segment winners! Are you pooping me? I'm interested in the race winner not participation rewards. this ain't grade school.
Points champion? Are you pooping me? I'm interested in who won the most races this year. He is the champion.
This is America! We love real winners.
And they don't want to lower ticket prices...Did you see the stands at Bristol?
Create new fans, give free/greatly-reduced tickets to Military, cops, firemen, boys scouts, bridge clubs, bikers, churches, nudist camps, schools, ...etc. Rebuild the fan base then start bringing the ticket prices back up to a reasonable point.
NASCAR is worried about "de-valuing" their tickets. An empty seat is worth exactly zero cents! An empty seat does not buy over-priced hot dogs or Tee shirts.
This Bristol race was the first race I've watched this year and I have no intention of watching another or attending a single race. If it wasn't for the best driver out there (Kyle Busch), I would have zero interest right now.

Bordom is a factor in the decline of NASCAR. Like whats happend to GM. The same old boring sedans just dont light up imaginations. NASCAR all looks the same and like others have said. Lacks the spark and excitement that onece captured the hearts of enthusiats. 0 -

Yep - I never actively watched NASCAR but his sounds true. He biggest sin one can commit today is be a white, straight, conservative southern gentleman that drinks beer.

I started watching Nascar back when Lee Petty was still racing. Then his son succeeded him, and he became my favorite. Those were the best years as far as I'm concerned. When Richard retired I lost interest in Nascar altogether.
Flipping through the channels a few years ago, I stopped on a Nascar race, but after just a few minutes I realized that I hadn't missed anything, and moved on.0 -
I was always into most auto racing sports.
I gave up on Nascar, when they stop letting the best car and best driver win the race.
It was the old restritor plate rule that started the down fall.
"Let me understand this....If I spend 150 hours porting my heads to make more power, you want a guy that spent only 25 hours on his heads to be equal to me?"
I never minded losing a race to better driver or a car with more horsepower. Heck didn't even mind losing to a guy that "read" the rule book better than me.

People complain there's to many rules today and they complained not enough rules back when Petty was winning races by 5 laps.

No more Humpy Wheeler's to run promotions. Humpy brought Janet Guthrie to the World 600 in Charlotte and filled that place with more people than possible. Never had as many since. She flunked out of Indy driving so he seen an opportunity. Rile the folks up a Woman was racing. She finished 16th I think that day. Commercialization hit NASCAR. Who brought it? Dale Earnhardt. He had all of the gifts and accessory rights to all of the drivers till he sold the rights to them. Rusty Wallace in fact used some money around 50k and Dale set up stuff for the fans to purchase. On the way up in NY Rusty and Dale was in the elevator. Dale handed Rusty and envelope and he asked what it was? Dale said open it up.. Rusty almost died..it was a check for 1 Million Dollars. Dale had already made Rusty a lot of money. They were enemies on the track but best of friends off. When money came to play into NASCAR it ruined the sport. Dale and Jeff Gordon were the ticket years ago. Rivary. Everyone was either a fan or not. Dale made Jeff rich selling his goods. Just like big wrestling it was all a show until they went out on the track. I miss the old NASCAR. BTW.. Dale was quitting NASCAR after the 2001 season to start his own Corvette Race Team. Andy Pilgrim who raced with Dale, Dale Jr. , Kelly Collins in the Rolex 24 hours at Daytona in 2001 had already made a commitment to Dales Team. I just wonder how NASCAR would have taken him leaving instead of getting killed on the track. 0 -

l remember as a kid Ed Livingston owned a local junk/salvage yard. He bought a white 1962 Ford Galaxy 406 V8 convertible. Put the car on a flatbed
and took it to Darlington to run in a NASCAR Convertible Race. Made me sick how Ed took out that pretty RED vinyl lnterior before going to Darlington.
Car looked even worse when it came back. l think ED said he even made enough money to pay for that $2500 Ford Galaxy.0
