The way things are going, it might not take that long. Fiat isn't just an Italian automobile manufacturer.

As I read it, it will ban all semi autos with a mag capacity of more than five. So, bye bye to the Ruger 10/22. Good God!

    from the NY Times:

"Chris Cahill, president of the Police Association, the union representing New Zealand?s police officers, praised Ms. Ardern?s plan, saying his group had been calling for such measures for years.

?This addresses the key concerns we have,? he said. ?It?s hitting those military-style semiautomatics. It?s exactly what we wanted.?

This is what I have feared all along. When it comes time for the gun grab in America, the police chiefs will be leading the charge to lock up gun owners. I am not saying that all officers will go along with it but most of them will.

Remember a few years ago, an antiques dealer in New Jersey got busted for having an antique flintlock pistol made in 1709. He was facing 3 years in prison, cops saw the gun during a routine traffic stop and were glad to lock him up.

I know of a truck driver from North Carolina who got pulled over for speeding in New Jersey. While he was getting his ticket, another New Jersey trooper showed up, a captain. He asked if he could search the truck. The driver said "OK."
In a minute the captain got out of the truck and said to the Southern boy, "Do you have a permit for that pistol?"

And the driver said "I didn't know I needed a permit."
The cop said "Get that gun and stand right there and it better be unloaded."

The NJ Captain had not found a gun. He was fishing and the Southern boy fell for it.

The driver spent a year in jail and paid over $40,000 by the time the smoke cleared.

Yes, the officers of New Jersey are first in line when it is time to lock up good citizens for "firearms" violations.

just my guess when /if the US Government declares banning and confiscating all semi auto and magazines it will not be a good day in America
and may trigger the predicted war the internet rumor mill keeps predicting is going to occur between left and right

It won't be legal....a president can not sweep aside the Constitution. Trump in his declaration of a National Emergency is not issuing an executive order, he's issuing a statutory order. His authority in this declaration was given to him by an act of congress, he is using a specific statute. There is no statute that empowers a President to sweep aside a Constitutional Amendment.

Beware the dreaded NJ shortcut to better banning...

NJ started with a list of assault rifles to be banned as cop killers

NJ than changed the verbiage to military style assault weapons

Than further parsed it with similar in appearance or similar looking

With that they went for example from banning the M1 .30 cal carbine to including the erma .22 rimfire variant and than to .ruger 10/22's with M1 carbine style after market stocks and even tried to do guns with a similar profile or pattern...

With that wording that could justify banning almost anything - and did so...

Funny out of all the guns banned as cop killing military assault rifles only one had ever been involved in an LEO shooting in the state - when one officer accidentally shot a fellow officer in the behind with an AR15 - accidental blue on blue fire whilst clearing a gun before storage

They did not attempt to ban the SKS which would be used by a transvestite nut job to kill police officers

Banning hollow point ammo (a sentence enhancer if caught using them while committing a crime) because it was cop killer designed ammo...

Personally if I have to be shot by a handgun while on the job wearing LEO body armor / protective vest I am hoping for a hollow point over a full metal jacket or a coated black talon...

From a physics and ballistics standpoint the expanding open nose hollow point ammo is far less capable of penetrating most LEO soft armor let alone those with steel or ceramic or frangible insert plates...

None of it made sense - stupid steeple hear media buzzwords presented with false shuck and jive and they don't realize it's a con game designed to take away on of the first ten amendments / ie part of the bill of rights

    It's the standard game plan

How is the irony lost on a nation of citizens whose very founding as a country was structured by armed government murdering and taking land by use of firearms when the Maori couldnt fight back on equal terms?

    Top

That should disqualify him from running for POTUS.

New Zealand just went down the drain.

    The populace needs to resist.

The population has embraced this almost to the last person. Many gun owners have already turned in their evil semi-autos for destruction before any new law was enacted or even considered.
They have been assimilated into the Borg :ugeek:

These subjects down-under are not of the independent mind found by many here in America

The USA will be following right behind them before you know it. Things are moving fast, and changes of all kinds to our way of life are being proposed. We have lost our nation at the altar of 'diversity', and have let our culture be perverted to the point it no longer exists as most of us have known it.

The majority of us left on this forum are dinosaurs,..... at the brink of extinction. We are basically dead men walking, but many don't realize it yet.

    Dear New Zealand,

You may have noticed that, worldwide, there is an epidemic of Muslims shooting Muslims, Muslims shooting everybody not Muslim, and once in a while as you recently had, somebody shooting Muslims. You rashly and unthinkingly reacted by banning some guns. That was the wrong course. The key element around which all this violence revolves is not guns, but Muslims.

Ban Muslims and the problem of Muslims as shooters or shootees instantly goes away. Ban Muslims, not guns.

    Yours Rationally,

    The world

This media fantasy that NZ'ers are turning in guns in droves, is just that, a fantasy....1.2 million registered guns and it's reported that 37 people have voluntarily turned in their guns.

Thank you. I was /have been wondering where the "Media "coverage" was in reference to those New Zealanders NOT in favor of Semi-Auto turn in/confiscation.

My feeling is it will (I hope) be like the compliance to the NY Safe Act, very little turned in/registered, thus far in comparison to those owned. :) (Sshhh, a quiet little secret, not reported on.)

Was it by A Vote of any kind in their Parliament? Or was it by decree? Anyone know?

Have been talking about and asking, (with friends/co-workers) what is the time limit for doing so?

    Anyone know?

Based on what I've read at present only new sales are banned....the intent is to pass a new law banning them, so I suppose they have to wait and see what the law says.

Thanks Shilowar. There has not been a lot of information on this. The verbiage I listened to from the Prime Minister the other day crowing about this, kind of sounded like that. (New purchases.) Outright confiscation/turn in was not discussed.

"The only way you will be allowed to own such a Firearm is through Police Permit, and I can insure you, applying for such a Permit, will be a waste of time." If so, why have a "Permit," system at all? In order to allow those wealthy enough to obtain one?

I'd like to see/hear "Equal Coverage," (yeah right.) about those New Zealanders OPPOSED to this Crap.

This is some heavy duty crap, and really brings it home what governments do to peoples rights. Imagine being faced with a page like this in our country next month, or next year.

    A little information:

    1. Population of New Zealand is about 5.9 million people.

    2. It's estimated there are about 1.5 million firearms in New Zealand.

    3. The government appropriated $138 million (US dollars) to pay those turning in firearms.

    4. Ok, do that math. That LESS THAN $100 PER FIREARM SURRENDERED.

This is a modern day example of what happens to a population that are subjects of their government.

While I'm quite certain the vast majority of members here are 50 and up (57 here), I wasn't speaking so much about chronological age as I was referring to a dying ideology and belief system. The love of liberty and self reliance is dying rapidly among the younger generations. There are exceptions of course, but I would venture to guess they are a small minority.
