    Rob was, and is, a legend. Probably one of the smartest, wittiest and most well informed people who have ever typed a word here on GBGD. He could be caustic beyond comprehension to some, but only if you didn't understand. He was clever and quick, and he made short work of those without a quick rejoinder. And, when he had someone on the run (usually before they even knew it), he would lay mental traps just for fun.

    DWS was probably one of the most fabled people I have ever had the chance to debate with since the interwebz were invented.

    I wish him well, and sincerely hope the... 'reports of his death are a great exaggeration'.

    I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge DWS here. His kindness to animals was legend, and his person (in real life) was no less.

    I have never understood this affection as applies to guns. A gun is a tool, like a wrench; and unlike art where the benefit derived is primarily in the viewing or touching, a gun's benefit is primarily in its use. That a gun can be exquisitely and painstakingly made does not change this. And to apply the old automobile saw It is not where you go but how you get there to guns is clearly misplaced because, at bottom, the reasons for which you have a gun in the first place seldom co-varies with beauty and craftsmanship. Perhaps some feel that a 1911 is aesthetically more pleasing than a Glock, or that a gold- and ivory-inlaid Heym double is more attractive than a Savage 110. And while this may indeed be the case, it has nothing to do with a gun's utilitarian purpose. It seems to me that if all the quality and attention to detail given to a gun does not cash out in matchless accuracy and reliability, then what you have is art for art's sake, errantly and gratuitously applied.

    If this forum has to beg for former members to come back, well, imo, this story reads The End, sooner than later. There is a noticeable drop already with the New Green Deal here and I suspect without newer blood to come in it is like a stagnant pond in the middle of a 100 acre patch.

    I disagree. I was given a new Buick, several household appliances and free HBO. Begging would have been an Aventador, an apartment in Bilbao and a six-foot blonde German nymphomaniac named Helga.

    I think this forum is a river, not a pond; unfortunately, you can't step in the same river twice. I read the "Fallen" sticky and bit my lip. Maybe there won't be another WhiteClouder or BDJ here again, but I'm hopeful more like them will be.
