RIP Gunbroker Forums
This new "Apple-ized" forum look SUCKS. And will be the death of the (already dying) forums.
It really sucks, and makes me sad that we are now forced to use this ugly and bloated page. Now I get 5 topics per page, instead of 20 or more.
More ad revenue for Gunbroker though, so I guess that is good for them, until they have no clicks at all because people left.
Gunbroker isn't the first, and won't be the last company to switch to this "lots of white space" ugly crap.
Oh well. What can you do?

Sad but true. I have trouble signing everday. It is a pita. 0 -
If this is the board you want then the only thing is to buy the company or marry the owners son / daughter.
There might be a way to get a bunch of "atta-boys" to gain an untouchable presence. Remember one Oh-No can wipe out all your atta-boys in one split second. :shock:0 -
How is it the death with so many former members now posting again? 0 -
It's under user control panel,....board preferences, display options. 0 -
I said this in another post, but being force-fed these ads seriously whizzes me off. If I wanted to look at auctions, I'd go there. Forums ought to be for discussions, not sales pitches. If they stay, I probably won't. 0 -
Mr Perfect,
These forums have been decreasing in posts for years, sadly enough.
Now with all these ads that most people see (some of us use ad*blocking software, so we don't see them) but that will run more people off.
I don't mind ads, but until the ad companies stop letting malware get through, I'll choose to block them. If you care about your computer, you'll do the same.
Yes, I know they have to pay for these forums *somehow* but in reality, it doesn't cost much to host forums. And the software was free. Yes, some tech had to set it up, but it wouldn't take more than a day to do so.
I don't mind the ads, what really bugs me is the amount of space between each line. It is stupid, and trendy. This is how most software is these days, and it is counter-productive.
Yes, you can put 20 topics on one page, but you STILL have to scroll and scroll and scroll to view them. THAT is what is annoying. Even worse on a phone.
Appearance over function is a terrible thing.

Well, I am sure ads and other aspects may ward some off, but I see some old faces. May just balance out.Mercury wrote:Mr Perfect,

Pack it with ads, but can't fix the log in/out problem?
I guess with the ad bloat, auction and forum side are no longer separate?0 -

Unfortunately that does not work. That process only changes the number of
"recent topics" from all the forums, to be displayed at the top of the page.
There is apparently no way to change the number of topics displayed in the "general forum", nor is there a way to eliminate the vast empty useless white spaces between topics, thus displaying more topics per page. I really hope that I'm wrong!0 -
Here's something funny.
When I wanted to go from the forums to the auction side I just pressed "Home" at the top of the forum page.
I have no idea how to get from the forum to the auction with this new forum.0 -

Scroll all the way down there is a "shop gunbroker" link that takes you right to gunbroker.com0 -

I can't argue with that, Merc, and I very seriously doubt anyone else could either.0 -

Well said, sir.0 -
OP needs to get with the times. The upgrades are much better. 0 -
I'm sorry for your strong dislike of the new forum. Me?,I like it. There are new buttons to learn, but I look forward to doing so. There had been bitching for a long time for new forum. I feel a lot of time and work was put into this new forum. Yes,it's new,it's different,it will take some time to get use to. There will be bugs to work out,and tune ups needed. Please offer suggestions. Bitching right of the gate is pretty unfair. Adds?,of course there will be adds, this is a business. I'm sorry but,I appreciate the new forum, and look forward to enjoying it for a long time. 0 -
I agree, it is going to run many off. Very difficult to navigate. Fixin something that aint broke is what governments do. 0 -

Well said Joe.0 -
Joe,
You misunderstand. This is NOT just something that just gunbroker is doing. This is software in general these days.
Huge amounts of white space, and very little *real* information on the page is very common these days. It is for a "clean look" but it sucks to actually use.
It has nothing to do with "getting used to it" at all. It has to do with the fact that it is a crappy design, period.
Again, this is NOT something that just gunbroker is doing, EVERYONE is doing it. But, that doesn't make it right.
We have traded functionality for looks. Stupid!

The bitching and moaning here cracks me up! It's like the bingo cards got changed to a different color and the Whispering Pines retirement community residents are confused and pissed! LMAO 0 -

At this point I'd be happy to stay logged on. I've about wore the paint off my keyboard trying to stay logged in! 0 -

+1
That is really my only bitch.
Change happens you have to roll with it. I liked the old format better mostly because it was fast without the other stuff going on.0 -
If they don't want to continue forums they should just delete the whole thing. With this unholy mess they will accomplish the same thing but it will take a little longer. 0 -
As has been noted, too much empty space. Can I assume this is permanent because everyone else is doing it? 0 -
Y'all crack me up. Cept for the log in thing, everything loads fast and fine using Firefox. 0 -

Or maybe taken over by the Democrats that made no sense what-so-ever.
I don't like this new format and my visits may be history.
Agreed, I hope that it takes forever with a phone because this is just unreal.0 -
The Forum change is part of Russian collusion.

Most of us hate change and having to learn how it all works all over again. Give it a try for awhile and it will become the new normal. I had no problem signing in and even get to use my old password. 0 -
Mr. Perfect wrote:Y'all crack me up. Cept for the log in thing, everything loads fast and fine using Firefox.
Same here using Chrome. Getting logged off sometimes is the only issue I have, and i't's better now than it was.
Sure wish the bitchers would give it a break, and those threatening to leave would just leave. No need to make a big production out of it. If you don't like the new forum, you're free to head on down the pike. Nobody is forcing you to hang around.
Myself, I think this new forum is grand, and once the bugs are worked out it'll be even better.0 -
I like the new format, but the login issue is annoying. Hope they figure it out soon. 0
