A very commonly used ac/heater 12000 btus that uses 240 volts {we folks living in the 21 century have 240 in our non kerosene homes}, will draw about 5.2 amps per each leg of 120 volts.
Of course, we don't have the stink of burning an ancient fossil fuel,
or the need to constantly refill the wiring, increased fire hazzard,
and the possibility of brain damage from the flumes.
Did I mention brain damage??

If you read my original post over on your other thread, there was no mention of a home unit... And yes they draw about 7,000 wash per hour, but this can work off of a 220 single phase home electrical outlet... and cost almost $600 to buy new, but like I said I use them for work, and if there is a need to heat my house with it, it's well worth the price for the comfort I get...
In fact the last time I used it inside my house, was when a part on my house heater broke on a Sunday. That was last year, the part for my house heater only cost $15, but I couldn't get it until Monday morning. Like I said I stayed warm... And the cost of electricity was less than what a motel room with a cost...if I recall that night it got down to 5 degrees above zero, I wasn't going to stay in my house when is that cold0 -

I have a Kero-Sun Omni 230 in 18' x 22' detached garage. Puts out 23,000 BTU,s. Puts out so much heat you have no choice but to crack windows. I always keep flame as low as possible to avoid any smell and am very fussy about wick maintenance. Very happy with this setup. Of course I guess it helps to have well insulated walls and I have over a foot in the ceiling.
About ten years ago dug a trench 18" deep,laid schedule 40 pipe and snaked #8 wire to subpanel in garage. Of course my main panel is maxed out now and won't be going to electric heater in garage.
Guess I will keep on contributing to global warming and let the next guy worry about main panel upgrade. At 76 life is getting a little short.0 -

I don't know if you wired it yourself or you had a professional wire your detached garage.
But if you're running two freezers and a heater / air conditioner unit in it, and if your breaker box has two banks a breakers running parallel to each other, make sure your breaker box is balanced. Meaning that you have just as many amps usage on each bank of your your breaker box. If your breaker box is not balanced, you can over heat one side of the hot side of your breaker box because you'll be drawn all your amps from one side of the hot side of your breaker box instead of balancing it out over both sides of your breaker box...0 -

That may be true, but "Arkansas," is not the Mountains of Western North Carolina, or Extreme North Eastern Tennessee. I'm at about 4000' elevation. It got down to 3* last night. Lowest last year was -14*.
My Kerosene heater is relegated to power outages, or if it gets down in to low single digit temperatures. It is not a readily used resource. It is very nice to have, in situations like yesterday when the power went out, or overnight when in the very low single digit temperatures.0
