The media makes it like these people are all poverty stricken and haven't been paid in months! Talk of foreclosures and not being able to pay bills etc.

It appears many are living paycheck to paycheck and two mortgage payments from foreclosure. Stupid banks will be so much better off with a bunch of houses in their hands they can't move.
New Mexico has a lot of federal employees with bases, and forest service, etc. There is unemployment insurance for them not requiring them to hunt for jobs. Utilities are allowing them to not pay now and catch up later.0 -

Congress always has, and will arrange for back pay once the shutdown ends. The Senate has already done this. The House can't do it yet because the 'Poor Workers' thing is one of their cards to use against President Trump.
If it were me I would go to my bank and take a signature loan for $3-4k to get me through. If needed I would use a credit card. I could call my mortgage co. and make a payment with it, giving myself a 30 day grace period. There may be some interest but I wouldn't starve, I wouldn't lose my house and my babies wouldn't die as the press is claiming. This is sooooooo simple!0 -
I heard this morning 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and also a large percentage can?t come up with a thousand dollars cash if they had to. That sucks for sure. Maybe a class in middle and high school on how to budget??? 0 -

Funny how the DEMOCRAT controlled media totally avoided reporting the struggle NON GOVERMENT employees were going thru during the economic malaise created by the Obama regime:
Food stamps record highs
Unemployment workforce participation all time highs
Devastation caused by health insurance rates quadrupling
Massive layoffs workers due to manufacturing exodus

I'm not a big tax payer fan but, that being said I feel much of "our money" isn't being used as it should be. Much of it for government employee BENEFITS. Not to mention the over abundance of mentioned "employees"[:(] 0 -
The law will not allow a foreclosure until you are 120 days late. That's 5 payments due, they should be a ways from losing their home right now.

saw a piece on our local news that a person has already gone to their "bank" and told them the circumstance and the "bank" supposedly told them what amounted to "to bad, so sad" they would be in default.

My sympathies, one of the risks of working for the federal government is the occasional shut downs. Every job has it's in securities, of varying degrees. Seeing FBI agents inject themselves into a political debate saying their personal financial insecurities could impact national security is obscene. Our national security debate should not be dictated by the goal of getting people paid sooner, it simply should not be a factor in the debate. If not now? Then when...there will never be another moment in time for a permanent border barrier to be funded. They can always look for other jobs, there are plenty out there. Smacks of the entitlement crowd. 0 -

Don't matter what his credit rating is. Would you be given a pass if you couldn't make the payment? Bet you wouldn't. When you sign those mortgage papers you are entering into a contract. If you don't abide by the terms of the contract you are in default. Plain and simple. Those people are welcome to go find a job elsewhere if they don't like the conditions at their employer.

With this information in mind, and seeing all the new automobiles, RVs, lifted fat tired four wheel drive pickups towing camper trailers, "toy haulers" boats, trailers with 15K-40K of jet skies or "quads", flying down the road, I don't feel sorry.0 -
The average new car payment is $530.00 for 68 1/2 months. That?s almost six years paying for a stupid car most folks can?t afford in the first place but they will not pay them off for the most part before they trade them in for another one. so NON ESSENTIAL get a vacation... then will get paid up with their job held for them ???????????????? NON ESSENTIAL .......i have had one (1) new vehicle in 58 years on my own & 1976 & it cost $2800....all my land, machinery, and operating loans paid in full before or on time...and i lived cheap(wood heat in winter & open windows in summer) worked multiple jobs when things got tight, and sold things off to get by....now it is hard to see how ?tough? some seem to have it 0 -

The country might be better off if they shut the whole mess down and started over.

While I worked in the private sector I was never guaranteed a job next week, or even the next day. Government employees are not sacred cows, and somehow a protected class aside from the rest of us. How concerned where many of the government employees, while drawing a paycheck, about the average working person without a job between 2008 and 2016 when we had massive unemployment? At least they will receive their back pay when this is resolved. I was never paid for days that the companies I worked for didn't have work for me. Even now being self employed I'm not guaranteed an income.
Government employees will still have a job that will eventually return,with back pay. Ordinary people who lose their job don't know how long it will last until they find another to replace it, and even then they don't know if the pay will match.0 -

I experienced a five month period of unemployment, with a wife, two children, a mortgage, and a car payment. It was tough, but we got through it.
These people have been off for less than a month, and even though they are off, the government is perking right along. The shutdown didn't seem to actually shut much of anything down.0 -

During the last so called depression I knew a man who never paid his house payments for 5 years. The bank never repossessed the house and finally offered to pay him to move. 0 -
Gee, I had no idea so many of you guys are hard hearted.
Today, most federal employees are professions or technical experts. Yet, their pay is 30% less than comparable job in private industry. The Draft Dodger wanted to freeze their pay, but allowed a 1.9% raise for this year. Benefits aren't that great; the Civil Service Retirement System was closed to new hires in 1986. Most families have an out of pocket medical expense of $6,000-10,000 a year.
With increased inflation, & saving accounts paying 1% interest, I don't blame anyone for failure to save in today's atmosphere. May as well buy something you want, rather than watch the value of your savings shrink each year.
You need to walk a mile in the other person's shoes. For those of you who plan to fly somewhere, you may have to walk a few hundred miles in those shoes, since more & more TSA agents are phoning in sick. Soon, the planes won't be allowed to take off.

They do have one, it's called math class. I remember helping my kids with their math and part of the curriculum was how to budget money...0
