Amazon is Big and Powerful
A year ago, I never saw an Amazon truck. But, now I see them all over the place. I got this pic of one two weeks ago on I 10 in Houston.
And I saw this one a week ago in north Alabama.
I saw them parked side-by-side this afternoon at 3pm in Theodore Alabama on I 10. Looked like they were parked for the day, which means, they were driving all night.
I talked to a UPS delivery guy a month ago in Ft. Worth. He told me that Amazon was 5 percent of UPS freight. And they are 3 percent of FedEx. He told me that Amazon is starting up their own trucking business and will pull out all freight from UPS and FedEx, and Amazon will soon begin home delivery.
And, in the past 5 weeeks, I have seen 5 flat beds, each one hauling 3 Amazon little delivery trucks. All were Mercedes Benz.
And, sure enough, today for the first time, I saw an Amazon home delivery truck making a delivery, in Mobile. Mercedes of course. And saw another little Amazon truck tonight rolling down I 10 in Baton Rouge.
So, Amazon has unleashed home delivery just in time for Christmas.
Just imagine the massive amount of freight delivered by Amazon. And imagine the cost of starting up their own, nationwide truck fleet.
These guys are unbelievable.

Is the symbol for their special service and has been around for a while but getting bigger you can get faster cheaper deliver with prime. But it costs a fee.0 -
I usually order at least once a week and my thick black Amazon credit card is great and has a great rewards feature. I get a lot of free stuff cause of that card. 0 -
They have vans and trailers, but no trucks yet, they're farming that out to owner operators. 0 -
I work at the #1 Semi Truck Trailer Mnfgr. in the USA. (Utility Trailer.) We have been visited by their VIP's several times in order to set up a contract/delivery.
I looked closely at those photos. I believe those are our Trailers. Those are definately Trailer Blade Skirts. Which I assemble and install.
They are the real deal. It is in the works. Large order.

They run thier own ?brokerage? and are basicaly running high $ LTL freight as TL shipments for cheap. I was offered a contract with them through another brokerage, nope, no sir not going to do it.0 -
I try to avoid the Mega-Lo-Marts of the world. I studiously avoid Fleabay and Amazon, and I shop at Walmart only out of necessity. 0 -

That is what I also do. I buy as much as I can from my local merchants and find that I can do without most of what is on these websites.0 -
Buy a lot of "stuff" from ebay and have it shipped to my U.S. overseas shipper who pays the tariffs/fees.
He ships every Monday to South America, get the items NO MORE than 10 days later.
Many items are impossible to find or VERY EXPENSIVE and cheaper overall to order from U.S. even with a 25% tariff.
My christmas present to myself this year is an oscillating sander. Should be here Wednesday.
Amazon is 5% of all U.S. retail sales and 45% of ecommerce purchases.
Jeff Bezos is by far the richest person in the world. Even richer than quoted below and why I quit buying from Amazon 2 years ago.

I have never seen an Amazon truck until reading this.
I don't have a problem with Amazon getting bigger but I wonder how long it will take the retail world to competitively adjust and how long for them to do it.

I buy a LOT from Amazon; I do not like Jeff Bexo's politics but until some one comes up with an alternative where I can get free movies, two day shipping, six months same as cash on order over $149 plus everything from toilet paper to lathe mill combos I will continue to buy from them. Last year I had over 150 Prime orders delivered to my door, over 165 the year before.0 -

If they broke up ma'Bell and AT&T I don't see how they can overlook Amazon for the long haul.
What Amazon really owns? DATA. Do a Google search on Amazon Web Services and you'll find the house a huge portion of the world's data. More money to be made there than giving away retail goods (and destroying retailers).

I was driving west on I70 to columbus oh. There was an amazon facility along the highway. Big as a football stadium. It should be. Look at all the retails places they displaced. I've heard that for $10,000 amazon will provide adelivery franchise and 3 vans. All you need is the facility. I've also heard that they want to take over the Postal Service evevtually. 0 -
They must also be using contractors because I had a package delivered to the door by someone in a car delivering for Amazon.
Go figure a guy decides to sell books from the internet and after losing tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars to grow into a place that sells everything and was able to maintain so much control of the company.

I try to buy local. But now if I want to find something I have to go to Amazon. Went by several of my old places and they were all either closed or something else. 0 -
I dislike WalMart and never shop there if I can help it. I get agoraphobia in there. Too big and too many people.
But I buy from Amazon all the time.
In October I had a party. Eight guys from different states coming to my place, which is on a mountain with a long, steep 3/4 mile long driveway.
I figured, might be one of my guests had a few drinks and went off in to the ditch, I might need to tow him out. I have a new 4WD pickup.
So I checked my tow strap, it is from the last pickup and I saw it had some tears in it. Would still work but not tip top.
So I went to the local NAPA. Just sold out of tow straps.
I went down to the next town, went to Lowes, no auto shop.
Went, against my better judgement, to WalMart. They had a tow strap but it was a cheapo, rated at 4,000 pounds. That same company, it said on the label, made a 10,000 pound strap, but WalMart didn't sell it.
I could have gone down to the big city and probably would have found a tow strap, after visiting, what, three or four auto parts stores? Three more hours of driving around, and twenty bucks in driving costs?
I said "Screw it" and went home and got on to Amazon. They had 45 tow straps. I found one rated at 12,000 pounds for $22.
I ordered it, no tax and free shipping. To my astonishment it arrived less than 2 days later, in time for the party.
So tough s*** for the bricks and mortar shops. Amazon provides a great service.
I just bought my pickup two months ago. I admit I was slack and although I did go ahead and get studded snow tires, I didn't get chains. On my driveway, sometimes you also need chains.
We had a snow storm last week while I was in Texas. Here again WalMart carries chains. But at the first big snow storm they sell out and won't get any more until next year. Nobody else carries them.
So when I got back from Texas, first thing, I went to Amazon. They had dozens of chains. I didn't have to spend 3 hours and forty bucks in car costs, driving all around Asheville. I ordered chains for a hundred bucks and they will be waiting for me when I get back on Tuesday.
I like to support local business, I want to support local business, but Amazon just whips the ass of the bricks and mortar businesses. Especially for me as I am gone all the time driving the big truck.
I like Amazon.
As for the politics of the owner, f*** him! Am I supposed to do a political litmus test on the shop owner where I buy motor oil? Do a political litmus test on my dentist? Ask the manager of the local grocery store, who he voted for for President?
Screw Bezos and his politics, he runs a great business, he is a damn genius and I buy his stuff. I buy from Amazon about once a week, just bought 5 classical music CD albums for the girlfriend for Christmas on Amazon, don't have time to drive around for 5 hours going to music stores looking for obscure CDs, Amazon has 'em all.0 -

I just wrote it as an observation of what I see, as I travel the roads, 11 hours a day, from North Carolina to Texas, and back.
A year ago, zero Amazon trucks. Today, they are all over the place.
Y'all boys who haven't ever seen an Amazon truck, brace your selves, because you will start seeing 'em, lots of 'em.
And, every big blue Amazon truck is a giant, rolling billboard.
Free advertising for Amazon.
Once Amazon has set up their fleet, they have bought all these
trucks and terminals and hired all these warehouse managers, drivers, etc, I wouldn't be surprised if they expand and move in to
general truck hauling. Why not?
At the rate Amazon is going, in a few years they might be the
biggest trucking company in America.

And as far as them doing general freight, Uber has already tried to corner the LTL market, all we need is another giant out here to make sure us small guys are history. I saw this guy, this morning in Montgomery Alabama on I 65, at 9am.
It looks like he is rolling,
but, he is in fact parked on the exit ramp. He probably pulled in at 5 am and was scared the Love's was full
so he just parked on the ramp. Not a bad gig, walk 300 feet and you have a restaurant
and a bathroom.
Cops hassle guys on the ramps in some places, but, obviously, not in Montogomery.
He slept on the ramp. Hard-charging, these Amazon guys, they drive all night
Note. The trailers are Amazon but the trucks are not, Amazon is farming ou
t the trucks to various companies. But, I bet a dollar Amazon sleeper trucks are not far in the future.
This afternoon this guy passed me on I 675 in Atlanta.
The number of these Amazon trucks has exploded in the past month, just
in time for Christmas. And as I said, they have just rolled out their massive fleet of
Mercedes home delivery trucks.
Merry Christmas Amazon!

Asked some VIP's in our Company today, what happened with/who got the Amazon order on Semi Truck Trailers?
They (Amazon) wanted to specifically go with our facility. (Glade Springs,VA,) we are the highest in Quality and Efficiency out of the 5 plants in our Company. Our five plants manufactured 49,500 Trailers last year alone.
Deal killer was, they wanted all 10,000 Trailers to come out of the same plant. (Ours.) (And) They wanted a price reduction. We manufactured 10,500 Trailers out of our facility last year. (So) They were demanding a one years production from our facility, at a reduced price.
Our Management passed.
I've heard Wabash might have taken it. A 10,000 Trailer order is Awesome! (But) If too many demands are placed on that order, well good luck.0
