Pabst beer has been my favored beverage since I was old enough to hold a glass. Come to find out, Pabst is just a name brand owned by a company that isn't even in the brewing business!! The company does not exist unless its competitor does all of the work of brewing their product for them![:0]

Now with their contract about to expire and a lawsuite that seems very one sided to me, I will have to do some brew testing to find a new favorite![:(!]

    Just on a side note, I close my eyes and see a fat guy working for Miller\Coors peeing in a Blue Ribbon beer vat![xx(]

    PBR in non returnable bottles...

    As a student of beer both good and bad from around the world - I can't do PBR...

    of the hundreds of beers I have sampled that's pretty low on my list - an old man beer...

    Like liebichainer cream ale or bah meh bhat.

    No offense - I was born in 71 and we always saw pabts as old man swill - though the older kids would drink it if that's all they could get or afford.

    They had thick glass tough bottles that would often bounce when thrown against the ground.

    You will find that most beers are not made by or were or how you thought anymore.

    Give me DAB in pint sized green bottles or tsingtao or asahi or kirin ichiban or dortmunder or pilsner urqil...

    Old nattie - Narragansett Indian head pale ale in blue glass swing tops...

    Sol - even tecate or labatts blue but not PBR NR's.

    Fosters is a great example - made in Canada I believe - certainly not in Australia...

    And Budweiser is now Dutch owned...

    The days of Coors being limited production in the Rocky Mountains and only really available in a few states is long gone...

    Easter Island and Mauritania and the Maldives produce good beers but good luck finding it - or that it was shipped and stored right.

    I suppose I should say I like Young's ESB to keep with the family name.

    It's funny there are a few Italian beers that I like that are represented as craft beer or high end European product here but when I talk to folks in England or Holland they say it's cheap fare for blokes in wife beaters with low incomes.

    We all like what we like - what we grew up with and are accustomed to.

    Guess I've been an old man for years, I thought they still brewed it in Milwaukee, back in the 70's we toured the Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee after the tour we went down to their pub and had fresh draft. I think they brewed different beers, PBR, Red White and Blue and Red Stripe if memory serves me right. I just checked a can it just says PABST BREWING COMPANY, MILWAUKEE, WI, guess its not brewed there [?][?]

    Yeah Miller seems to brew for may names. Strange I haven't seen MGD at Safeway for a while now. Have to check Lucky the other large chain if they stock it.

    Got some Asahi 24 pack two gun shows ago that I'm working through. If I don't find Oly at Grocery I'll go back to Natural Ice (I know really low rent [:D]) from CVS 30 pack around $16.00 before tax and CRV. California Refund Value a rip off add on to make you recycle to get most of the initial charge.

    I just laugh at elitists of all kinds. Gotta have the rarest bourbons, scotch, or beer, and turn their noses up at anything less than their proclaimed "best". If it isn't their brand, it's swill. Yeah, right.

    Yosh - silver label asahi or extra dry extra pale or super Z???

    Have you tried kirin or tsingtao???

    Rocky - I listed some pretty common and entry level mass production beers - old natty for heaven's sake and tecate

    How about red stripe from Jamaica or stegmier 1857...

    Nothing wrong with Tecate, Mike. Or most of the other production beers you mentioned. I do think there are some simply awful cheap beers out there, but tastes do vary and any brad I say is akin to mule piss might be somebody else's Tecate.

    Good old PBR is brewed the way all beer used to be: with body, distinct malt and hops flavors, and color. Unlike most of today's girlie beers whose chief feature is a complete lack of anything. "UltraLite...It's got zero!"

    Blue Ribbon Bock was the best Bock beer ever to me. But they only made it in the fall and in limited amounts. I tried to get a case at least when it came out. Been years since they stopped but I keep hoping since they have supposedly re-opened the original brewery in Milwaukee and said they would be making old brands again. Shiner Bock is the closest to Blue Ribbon I have found.

    Yeah. If Blue Ribbon is so bad why have they continually won awards held by people who are supposed to know how to brew beer. Anyhow, beer tastes like beer, there is no "supposed to taste like."

    I started drinking PBR when I was 15, in the 1960s. I always liked it but I haven't had it in decades. I rarely drink at all nowadays.

    mrmike08075 - Aren't they all "silver". Anyways extra dry I think. Nijiya had them for $15.00 for 24 pack sale. I do like the nice bitter finish.

    Then I saw on Mitsuwa ad they had the "big boy" bottle the 2 litre can back again. Made me feel like a Japo Viking when I used to drink those back in the '90s and was able to locate them locally.

    Same with me, but I still drink it. Was putting some in the cart the other day and some guy asked me if I always drank that. I said I have since i was 15. Told him if I drink too much, I fall down. It still works so why change.

    You can't get Blue Ribbon in most bars around here, then I drink Yuengling

    Asahi does come in silver cans - with a special liner - tall cans and the growler with the handle yosh referenced - but only one has a silver label on the bottle - they also have the powder keg style large can and a mini keg style one

    Beer tastes like beer is true but a dark brown chestnut ale or triple bock or India pale ale or tarwebock or pilsner vary greatly in palette and flavor spectrum

    Corn beer is silent from wheat is different from rice

    Pabts used to produce a wide variety of well made but lesser brews - and made limited small batch and seasonal beers but not much past the 70's - they declined and changed and eventually closed and sold off the name and brand

    And to be clear I will sit and share a drink with almost all of you and would accept and try almost any brew - unless it made me sick

    I was the craft beer supervisor at a good sized wine beer and spirits shop that also contained a deli for approx 10 years - and I collected and sampled 419 beers before moving on

    Also when I took USDA food quality control inspector training at their headquarters in fredericksburg while my specialty was produce I did take the beer course as well - got certified for it

    I got to be a beta reader on Michael Jackson's book on beer about a dozen years ago

    Drink what you like and can afford - but once in awhile but some singles or breakers and expand your horizon

    I guess I might be behind the times, but I drink the beer that suits my particular taste without regard for where it is brewed or the company name or city where it is brewed ? The brewmeister's recipe and end result is what defines the beer.

    My favorite beer is San Miguel which is jointly owned with Kirin a Japanese company...but since I can very rarely get it I drink PBR, Bud, Tecate, Molson or whatever suits my taste at the moment.

    Don't drink Craft Beers simply because I see no need to try them or maybe just because I am one of those old white guys[:D]

    After high school graduation (1958) a few of my pals went to work for Pabst in Peoria Heights - hot work but pretty good pay. What struck me is that it was perfectly OK to grab a bottle off the line and drink it. I assume that falling on the floor was frowned upon!

    I was a little surprised to find out Lone Star is brewed in Chicago. I?d bet you could start a bar brawl with that information.

    Sorry they?re messing with your beer Brookwood. I can drink any of it except Budweiser or Narragansett. Budweiser gives me a headache and Narragansett is an excellent cure for constipation whether you?re constipated or not. [:D]

    Hum...PBR is OK as long as someone else is buying (Free beer always tastes better)...I make my own American Ale and Cream Ale...both pretty awesome...Too many great beers out there to list...I have dumped allot of real crappy micro-brews...I do like Pilsner Urquell but have yet been able to make an acceptable home clone...

    i grew up in a community composed of German and Polish immigrants. each had their preferences in types of beers. i enjoyed the best of both worlds. Stag beer served with slush in the mug is tough to beat in july. but warm stag any othertime is horsewhiz. i am not a beer snob. i've had my share of Pbr, Hamm's, Coor's,905, lonestar, griesedick brothers Oly Stroh's, Falstaff,all the anhueser busch products, all the miller products, all the heinekin products. the aussie beer. i give it up before the mexican and jap beer came on the scene.. they were all favorites

    +1 bud or bud light, I can feel a headache by the second one, no other beer seems to do that to me..........
