The only time I ever had a problem with a bid was once. I bid on a Lew Horton 41 mag. About halfway through the auction, I looked at the listing, got the numbers off the gun and called Lew Horton about it. They confirmed that in fact, It was NOT a lew horton, and that they had several inquiries about this particular handgun. I contacted the seller and told him. He said, tough luck, your bid stays. Contracted GB and presented my case. Bid got retracted and someone else got stuck with it at an overinflated price.

In your case LF, If you had that many people changing their minds because of whatever, you would be broke in no time. He wanted the gun, he bid, it's his till the end of bidding. Your a business, not a self pity party for every smuck that changes his mind. Oak.

I say we send Mag00 out to start a colony with like minded people.....he can load up bus loads of these excuse givers and build their Paradise. We can watch on closed circuit tv for amusement.

I'd love it, problem is everybody else would want in after paradise was developed, then want to change it. [xx(]

I am offering you an alternative to save the neg. I'm not condemning nor condoning you or the buyer, I am suggesting you look at it from a business stand point and customer service. [:X][:X][:X]

These other posters, your friends an allies, aren't the ones getting the neg if handled improperly, you get it? [;)]

Anyone that doesn't pay.....doesn't get to leave feedback. He would get a negative and anything he left for me would be removed. The old saying "you have to pay to play". His bid is removed, but I hope Gun Broker takes note of people that are constant itches that need to be scratched and limits the number of speed bumps they get to install before they are kicked out.

I have to admit I was with the bidder until I reread his first statement. I thought he had been outbid & then bid on your rifle only to have his bid reinstated so he was now on the hook for two rifles.
I have had my bid reinstated on (cannot be mentioned) & I can see how that circumstance could happen.

It sounds to me, like this guy lost the bid on another rifle and saw it go back up for sale. He may even be doing an "off site" sale from how it sounds. He doesn't say he is bidding on another rifle.....he just says the rifle is being offered to him.

The people from Gun Broker can see the whole story if they wanted to. They can check to see what he has bid on in the past.....if an item he bid on was relisted.....and they can see if the relisted item was removed without any bids....which would indicate someone was skirting the rules. Who knows, they might see that everyone played by the rules and he hit the buy it now on an item....but I doubt it.

I have actually done something like this before, bidding on two auctions certain I would only win one. And then I won both.

Grin and buy them both is the way to handle it.

One good thing, you will never hear from that buyer again

People need to quit referring to this guy as a "buyer" or "customer" and use the term FLAKE....which is much more appropriate.

I certainly HOPE my days are filled with customers and buyers instead of FLAKES...that would be the best outcome I could hope for.

After being self employed for 32 years and getting ready to retire next year, I tell theses types to stop their crying.

I tell them that if I wanted to hear crying I would have opened a daycare, I am not a daycare.

I think the guy was polite enough and I see his dilemma. He offered to pay the auction fees. Yeah its not an exact anal black and white abide by the rules but sometimes life just is not and how much aggravation is it worth?

Now, I say this having had this happen to me (as a seller) 3 times. Twice the buyers apologized, explained and I could have said the letter of the law demands you blah blah blah but they both paid the fees and I just feel this will happen a small percentage of the time

One other time the guy simply said he changed his mind after the auction was over and refused to pay the fees and I did the bad feedback thing and moved on. It sold for less money relisted and again, not worth being stressed over it

Some times things don't go perfectly and getting worked up over something you won't change is a waste of time

    But of course IMO

When he said he was working out a deal on another rifle my response was as nice as it could be......"wait to see if customer service removes your bid on this before buying the other rifle"....which was MORE than reasonable (IMO.)

His response was childish and entitled. He could be a grown, responsible person and wait to see if his bid was going to be removed in time.....but he went the less than admirable route instead. His character is flawed, he is less than respectable.....

.....and should be thrown off a somewhat high cliff with stickerbushes and brambles at the bottom to break his fall.

I do not disagree with any opinion stated.

My point was life is not always perfect and when it becomes obvious it will not be the case some things are just not worth getting upset about when it will not change it.

Some seem to be saying life should be perfect and when someone does not act so they should be made to do the thing that returns life to that perfect state.

    If only it were so

Ohhhh I agree. I just point out some of the ordeals I deal with here to help point out the very wrong misconceptions people might have who use the site. It irks me beyond all reason that there are sellers out there who will let someone back out and "pay the fees".....because that is just ridiculous of anyone to think that makes anything right about backing out of a sale. People watching the sales who see someone win an auction and it go instantly back up think you have a shill bidder. The guys bidding see things change and think there are issues of some kind. Consignors are watching thinking that you are somehow running their items like a circus monkey that learned to use a computer. Its just an all around BAD DEAL for a seller to have someone "politely" back out of a sale.

It ranks right up there with your waiter sneezing on your plate of food as they sit it on the table....leaving it there.....and saying they'll cover their own tip when you pay your ticket.

Not that I can see......and it also looks like he is doing an off site deal, cutting GB out of the fees, but using their website as his own personal playground, but he is polite about it so some are ok with it.

I equate it more along the lines of a seller who allows a potential customer to purchase by lay-away. Once they have made their initial down payment, they fail to follow through with the purchase (politely) and the seller has to put the item back on the shelf for sale.
The next customer might have the same qualms of which you speak.
The initial down payment would be equivalent to your fees, so to speak.
In your case, the buyer does not give a rats ass about feedback and you can not force him to follow through with the purchase.

This is what is wrong....its NOTHING like a layaway, the seller does not "get" anything if the fees are paid, the sale is tainted. If the guy put a hunting rifle on layaway in Sept.....cancelled it in June so the item is out of season it might almost compare....but not really.

he is an NR? How are you able to detect he is doing an off site deal?
    0
  • Locust Fork
I think he was an NR, but since he is gone now I have no clue. Hopefully that will be the only time I ever see his name come across my screen. His email states a gun he wanted was relisted and the "seller agreed to award the rifle to me".....he doesn't say I'm bidding on another rifle or that he is going to do the buy it now on another listing. He pretty much says he is doing an off site deal.

So the dude got a second chance at the first gun? I wonder if gun broker got their cut?

He then told you I ain't gonna pay for the gun but pay for the listing fee? If the gun sold over his bid this wouldn't matter. Unless his was the highest bid. So did the auction close yet?

It sold....customer service took his bid off, but if they had not gotten to my request before the auction ended and he won the gun just offering the pay the fees is not something I would agree to. People need to take the bad feedback and get a warning from Gun Broker. These people are NOT what you want using the site.

If the fees are paid, you are out nothing. Except for the time to list. Your mistake, letting him off the hook.
As I said, negative feedback does not scare him and you can not force him to buy the rifle. It does not matter what is right and proper.

It's the e bay crowed who's arming up now that Trump is here. I wonder if Trump will be a better gun seller than obama [:D]?

I figure they're on "Gen.2" now? You know the ones who grew up watching "Doomsday Preppers" and "Sons Of Guns" who figures online purchases work like e bay and amazon.

Locust Fork - Best get ready for those "returns". Say do you have a re-stocking fee? If not you might think about some crazy nose bleedingly excessive fee and additional fee of re-listing for your time.

Also, since we are taking the hard line ponder this as you break the GB rules:

    Other stuff we automatically delete:

Auction tech support or billing questions. If you have a tech support or billing question click Help Center from the top of any auction site page.
Complaints or criticism about GunBroker.com, its staff, its policies, or any buyer or seller on that site. If you have a problem with an auction transaction use the auction feedback system and/or contact tech support.

So please, quit with the holy roller defense. [:(]
Oh please. Feel free to cite to the portion of the rules that require the seller to accept the offer. And while you're fruitlessly searching for that nonexistent tidbit, feel free to quote where OP includes which buyer it is. Then after all that jump out the window of your ivory tower and shove your high and mighty "I'm better than you" attitude up your lily white ass.

I will tell you exactly what he did. The seller got a NPB and the second bidder, was willing to give him what he wanted, so he sold it to him without going through GB. This way, he saved on the fees and made what he wanted. This sucks. I had a guy offer me the same deal one time. No friggen way, I told him. I want the security of GB in case things went south. I also don't bite the hand that has been good to me. Off line deals ruin, what a man worked so hard to create, AKA, GunBroker. Being a small business myself, I know what that can do to someone, even though GB is not a small business. If I was GB, I would be looking into this matter and heads would roll. Oakie
