Poofed threads and member departures thoughts

P3Skyking is absent right now - and while a cooling off period (self imposed or MOD enforced) may be beneficial I honestly want him to return and to participate.

Time off to smell the roses or reevaluate things or focus on family is healthy - though most of us go into withdrawal if we miss a single day.

For what it's worth I consider this community at large to be my friends and peers and family and mentors - including for the most part those who hate me or are not in my fan club.

Our mods are good people and do a good job.

I truly care about most of you individuals and as the group as a whole

I review the list of members who have died and see the names of those who don't come around anymore and I feel the loss - it hurts. We are a dynamic group and our membership and demographic is ever changing.

One of my favorite members of all time who taught me so much and engaged me in amazing conversations on cartridges history and development has stayed away for a long time - and I don't know what happened or why - but I miss teak.

As far as P3 goes...

I ultimately don't want him gone - as on the balance I think his impact or footprint here has been positive...

There have been some vitriolic hateful waste of space trolls whom we are better of without...

I did try to tell him that he was smarter and better than the name calling and somewhat shallow and pedantic attacks he was posting about mods specifically Montana Joe

I think he was upset that his retro adult swingers party / key party - alcohol fueled swapping romp cartoon thread for poofed - and his immediate "who poofed my post" rant also got yanked

To be fair and objective I don't think his original threads content or what he posted crossed the line or caught the mods attention - but was doomed by what some responses contained

And again to be fair I have tried to think of him as family or a peer or one of the guys at the bar even though he pretty much hated me

His attacks on my having cancer or lying about my circumstances and claims that I was not a firearms expert but just stealing data from other forums and formats were hurtful - did bother me some

But when that happened a bunch of you defended me including Remington Oaks and great guns and 84bravo and ricci and dcon and locust fork and a dozen others that I let it go

Those threads got pretty ugly and got poofed

But I still maintain that most of us are peers and associates and friends and like a family - and I don't want any of you gone or over censored

There are a small dedicated group here who friggin hate me - some of whom behaved so badly they got locked

The mods do a good job here - I have been a MOD on other sights with many of them and respect them

Hope that this made some sense or that you guys can understand my point of view or philosophy - if not please let me know.

I am genuinely interested in your opinion - I solicit your feedback and comments - and am not looking to tear anyone down.

Please if you will have a fireside chat with me about the subject.

    I look at this differently. I find many of his posts interesting. As such I almost always click on his posts. If I don't like what he, or anyone else has posted, I just go back and checkout someone else's post. No problem. I would miss Skyking as I find him interesting.

    Well, as a "bus driver" and "coffee boy", to use his term for aviators and senior officers in general, and me in particular, I must confess he was never at a loss for words.

    His admitted whoremongering and lack of respect for anything and anyone showed a distinct lack of character and humanity.

    However, on a national forum, one can say anything. However one usually shouldn't.

    Hopefully he comes back. But I hope some of the roughest edges are smoothed out a bit.

    I didn't have a problem with his posts.

    He reminded me of Trump in a sense. Rarely if ever launched a personal attack unless he himself was attacked first. Perhaps that's the reason he rubs people the wrong way.

    There are a number of posters here who specialize in posting personal attacks rather than offering gentlemanlike opposing thoughts or honest debate. When not launching personal attacks, they are here to toot their own horn.

    If forum members do not agree or are offended by his posts, the should not read them. Same reason, I do not watch CNN or MSNBC.

    Didn't bother me. When a thread turned brown and runny I'd quit reading no matter who it was. Except DWS, he had a way with brown and runny and never knew what I'd miss.[:D]

    Awhile back I gave away a Korth on this board because, for all its awesome machining and fitting and applications of deep charcoal bluing, it did not shoot any better than my out-of-the-box 586 Smith. I suppose that instead of giving it away I could have continued to marvel at its beauty and quality, but I stopped F'ing faces in high school.

    Your sentimentality and obvious concern for the human condition humbles me. That you view lives in pain and ruin solely as receivables for which net 30 is expected is in the highest tradition of all things juris. The wife who contracted AIDS from her husband before he ran off with dcon12, the deaf and blind leper who slipped on Skittles at Winn-Dixie and was subsequently paralyzed, the crack addict who was left brain dead after being shot nine times by badwrench for scolding his dog, all these people owe you a debt of gratitude for tending to their legal needs. I have no doubt that a grilled cheese sandwich with the image of mateomasfeo will one day go up on eBay with a suitably high reserve. I will not bid, despite its clear enhancement potential next to Dogs Playing Cards and the velvet painting of Elvis holding an HK VP-70.

    The members of this forum don't decide what is posted here; the GB staff decides on what stays and what goes. The posting guidelines, which everyone had to agree to before joining the forum, explains this. I have no idea what happened to his threads, nor do I care in the slightest. Someone on staff decided his threads were inappropriate, and away they went. Explanations for a poof are not mandatory, but as I told him, I always state why I edited his posts so that I can continue to establish my complete control over what he says and does here. As a forum member he's a subordinate. Because he's former military, one would think he'd easily grasp the concept of higher authority, but he can't seem to come to grips with it. If and when he returns, that will change. Not only will he learn to play with the other kids in the forum, he will be so polite to the membership that it would make Mr. Rogers seem like Don Rickles!

    P3 always struck me as a deeply insecure fellow. The sort of man who constantly has to remind himself that he's a "real man", unlike those he disagrees with.

    It's been my experience, in these 63 years of living, that the genuine badasses in the world don't have to keep reminding themselves (by way of informing everyone they think will listen and/or believe them) that they're badass "real men". Much the same as those who are/were good at what they do (or did) don't have to constantly convince themselves that they are (or were) the best in their field.

    I've met plenty of both kinds, enough at least to feel that I can make that distinction.

    Mike - I have tried calling "Teak" on land line and cell phone numbers. Also sent e-mails to him and his daughter - no response by either. Also asked "tailgunner" and Dave Call at "Ammo-One" - no one knows any recent news. I do know that he is on oxygen now and was moving from a larger house to a smaller place in the same town - but that was about 9-10 months ago. Hopefully someone on the forum will have more up to date information than I do.

    But no I was just in Kisangani, DR Congo with no internet[;)]


    It used to be called Stanlyville and the bullets holes in the buildings are still there from when Mad Mike Hoar took the town. While I was there I read his book Congo Mercenary and went to several of the places he fought. I found several wrecked/destroyed M3 Greyhound Scout cars they lost.

    The anonymity that the internet and obscure "handles" provide to some folks has a tendency to sometimes bring out the worst side of their personality... their tone and demeanor would generally be quite different face to face...

    There is really no excuse for being rude or crass when responding to another's post...opinions are just opinions, one can disagree but you can't change the other's opinion with pompous or rude rhetoric.

    Take them with a grain of salt and move on...

    For what it's worth I offered my opinion that he should stay

    Though doing so after disagreeing with his remarks most likely lessened the impact of that missive

    I do wonder sometimes that after the cancer finally kills me how long it will take for anybody to notice - if I will get added to the fallen members thread - and after a few days or news cycles if anybody will remember.

    I think about nord and many others every day.

    Adam I also have had no response from him for some time - in what I consider a great honor he would once in a while ask me about cartridges and ammo or firearms - and a decade ago we had some epic experts thread discussions

    I to wish for an update from someone here and hope he is okay

    Strong personalities and self assurance are admirable qualities, but this does not allow someone to strut around and try to lord over the other members or criticize the actions of the staff, much less insult them. As Nunn already said, his account was not locked; he left of his own volition (which is a word that I'm certain he imagines I'm too stupid to use in a sentence). He and I have a long history in the forums, and none of it is good. As an Administrator, I try to ignore our personal pissing match but if he chooses to return, it will not be on his own terms.

    That's his right and he is welcome to it.

    In all honesty I thought admirable restraint was shown by Montanajoe - after being called a coward and a punk and an anonymous poofer / censor...

    He seemed to take it in stride and with much aplomb and to me great amusement said "settle down little teapot" to which the tempest in question did not take to kindly

    As stated his account is not locked and his privileges appear intact

    I wish him well
