Fort Polk (all WOFT candidates went there) Nov 1967, C-2-2
I was held over while I appealed my flight physical (eyes) and was assigned as a 'drill corporal' for the next cycle of basic. From trainee to trainer!

What dates were you at Ft. Campbell? I was there from late May to late July 1968. 1st Training Brigade, 3rd Battalion, Bravo Company, 1st Platoon.

I was also there from May till July.

We were there the exact same time. You were compnay D and I was B. We probably crossed paths 43 years ago. I've posted a photo just like yours. I'm standing next to SSG. Byrd holding the end of the flag pole. Hope all is well with you and have a great day!

Fort Knox, 10-3-66 "A-11-3, every man a tiger, raahhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

Remember the ID photo session? They put a half dress shirt on you with a tie and an ill fitting hat. I was so dumb, when they asked me what the breakfast of champions was, I said "Wheaties."

Had a Winchester m-14 though, loved that rifle, I couldn't miss with it.

Camp Crockett wasn't a basic training center, it was a infantry AIT training center for those who were going airborne.

JP LOWER, (Dave) Fired the 14 for qualification at Pendleton in '68. Was issued one in VN and loved it. not like all the 'black plastic' everyone else was issued.

Did you ever find a 7 1/2 .44 RF barrel for my SAA?

At MEPS, they said, "Get Hollywood (2nd Bde); NOT Tank Hill (1st Bde) (as if we had a choice). icon_smile_shock.gif

We pulled up Alpha Co., 1st Bn., 1st Platoon - very first barracks, IN THE SHADOW OF THE TANK!!! UGH
