So-Tell me about your house
Ours was built in 1892. Keep original as possible when we put an addition on 20 years ago. We're on a rather large lake up here in cheese land!

built in 1996 and we moved in 1998. It’s on a large clear lake in central Florida south of Ocala and north of Orlando. Here is a picture from last year putting a new roof on it for the insurance to give us home owners insurance.

I dont think Im on the same lake, but definately cheese land. Mine is 50s and wearing out about as fast as I am.

Paid for, wife calls it our cabin in the sky where the deer and the antelope roam.

We have a log home on 50 acres. Built the main home in 1985 and put on two additions. Back in 1985 the interest rate was 14% and you had to have 20% down. We bought a large parcel of land because builder said buy a bigger piece of property, you can add on to the home easier than adding land.
Now we want to get out of here because of what our state has become but at our age it is difficult.

Built in 1806 by my ancestors , been in the family since day one

Built the year I was born using mostly lumber sawed from logs cut from this farm. Not much to look at but keeps the cold wind/snow out in winter and rain out in summer. Fancy houses are NOT a priority for me.

I built our house with white pine logs. Dovetail notches in the style of the pioneers in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Post-war ranch style. 4 bedroom 3 bath. On almost 4 acres. Built in 1954 so it's the same age as me. It was literally given to me by the coal mine operating here as they were nearing our previous home. it sounds like a great deal but long wall mining wasn't kind to this place. As I told the ex terminators father when he was here to kill termites, I'd rather flatten it with a bulldozer and leave but my wife doesn't see it like that. I can't get natural gas here even though there's 3 conventional gas wells I can hear running from my yard. So I have an oil fired boiler system. When this place was built, heating oil was 17 cents a gallon. It was $3.07 when I had the tank filled in July. There's 2 huge windows known as picture windows back in the day. One is 12' the other is 15' wide. They're massive heat drains. I've been here almost 25 years. I suppose I'll be here a while longer.

Built in 1927 a dutch colonial we are the second owners. The original owner was a supervisor for a builder so there is a fair amount of left overs used. The original owners left 26 years ago.

1893 brick that blends Victorian and Craftsman styles. Street and alley are still brick too.😁

2005 built by the largest builder in the southeast. Very comfortable home but Wife wants a larger home and most likely we will move back north to Ky. Ind, or Ohio this yr.

Beautiful old growth walnut door and window trim downstairs.
Old growth for upstairs.Old growth fir floors.
2 story on 2 lots on the edge of a town of 1200.
Old detached single garage.

Our old home is over a hundred plus years old no real records we can find or any one has to the original build date it's a Victorian style fatm house ,we have Been here over 35 years the list we have done over time could fill a book it's really nothing to brag about, but it's home

Two bedroom (one being used for DVDs and book room. Yes Hustler is considered books. One bath condo that's in the realm of silly prices. That reminds me oi wonder if the one on the market for $500K went down in price? I see they dropped the price to $515K. Been on the "market" for 145 days. I reckon tough market.

Ours is a two story farmhouse, 5 bedroom, 2 bath, built in the 50's….it had a second floor added in the 70's. So, there are indications that it was not fully planned out, but its built like a tank, so we've been really happy with it. We've had to do some updates to it….like moving breaker boxes and updating some wiring.
I found out this place and the house next to us (100 yards away) was part of a divorce…the couple that owned it were the Blackwoods. He gave her this house and the barn and parceled out the 11 acres we have here. He kept the remaining pastures, built another barn almost directly beside "my" barn and put a house on his land.
When we bought this place the seller was a couple that were moving to Florida….I think they bought it after Mrs Blackwood had passed away. We used their realtor and just bought the place without a lot of hassle. I was given an old survey and told the fence line was the property line. I never met the neighbor before owning this place….but the previous owner had let them put their cows over here in our pasture. We were never approached about letting them be back there….we would have been perfectly fine with it though.
Funny event….a week after moving in the neighbor moved the fence about 5 feet over in our direction. Its not a lot and didn't affect anything really, but it made me question the property line…since I was told the fence was "on the line" at the time we bought the place. I called the realtor and she went NUTS on them…..causing phone calls to be made in the tiny town of Locust Fork. So, ask me if I got a random visit from Mr. Blackwood…..who is probably the oldest resident of the tiny town of Locust Fork.
Mr. Blackwood INSISTED on walking me throught the property line. So, here I am at 6am in my pjs and a housecoat, some orange rubber shoes….trudging through the brush and weeds letting an old man show me where my land starts. (In our parts if an old man says to do something you DO IT.) By the time Larry woke up and saw me coming inside from my adventure I was totally over the whole fence line ordeal.
The neighbor had a survey done and learned they were wrong and they moved the fence back where it was…..which I told them they did NOT have to do….it wasn't bothering us one bit. I just wanted to know where the line was. I didn't care about the location of the fence.

1994 3/2 16x80 mh on 4 acres in the country. totally updated/renovated in last 5 years(House doors, double insulated windows, 40 year metal roof with 3"stryofoam ins., flooring, kitchen, bathroom w/walk in large shower, HVAC, appliances, the works. only the water heater is more than 5yo.over 65 so taxes on it all is $140 a year, and going down every year. got a king sleep # and there's a new master spa hot tub & sauna on the 10x24 covered back deck. I asked the wife before we started all this if she wanted to buy a house somewhere and she said she's happy right here. if she's happy, you know I'm happy😁oh, and I have about a 50 yard range in the back yard.
I think the main reason the wife likes it is there are no steps anywhere. when you park under the carport you are level with the front door so I built a walkway from there to the front porch (8x10) and right in the front door. She's had 2 back surgeries and no steps is a Godsend for her. Do you know how hard it is to find a house w/o having to use steps or having an inclined walkway? I didn't realize just how hard until I started looking. I planned the layout this way 25 years ago because I knew we would get old…. and we have.

More than I need and far more than I would have ever expected. We have been blessed beyond measure.

Our place is six and a half acres, with a small pond, barn and a two hundred yard range with a small berm . nothing behind us for two miles. It has a row of cedar trees completely around it with a hedge row on one side.
The house was built in 1984 and has four bedrooms, two baths and a nice finished basement. We are blessed with good neighbors. It's like having your own park.

Locust Fork - Even if you were cool with it after a while by them "taking" the land it'll belong to them. I forget the technical term but I learnt that on youtube.

Not much of a house I guess but if I live long enough, my daughter and SIL and I will fix it up real nice. It is out in the country in Kents Store, Virginia. What more could a Country Boy ask for? ————————-Ray
