Naming Cats
I have three OUTDOOR barn cats, well actually one old cat and two kittens born in October. I have had many excellent dogs that had proper names Peppie, Bert, Gracie, Cleo ect.
My cats names are as follows
Cat one the elder is named, Cat.
Kitten one with more white is named, Cat.
The last one more yellow than white is named, Cat
Some folks claim I need to name them and my reply is "I DID!"
What say you on appropriate names for cats?

Cats don't need names. They don't listen to it anyway. You can't own a cat,it's the other way around. 'Cat' is a great name,if they choose to hear it. 0 -

I have lost track the ones I know
mom cat ,grandma cat, little mom cat , Stevie Ray ( blind cat about 6 years old )
ken ,hobo , quincy , carol , smiley , hansom ( just arrived two weeks ago )
orange cat , gwen , fuzzy , peg leg , big head , lilly and about a 1/2 dozen just cat's ,,
about 15 too 20 ball park total . all have been "fixed" on our dime )

butch , wendy , macie , buddy , lahti ( son named her after the rifle )0 -
whatever you name them is for you to distinguish them, they dont much care. 0 -
exactly most all of ours know there name and will acknowledge it but they still do what they dam well please .
why I like dogs a lot better

Name the cats "cat" in foreign language. Neko for Japo, Gato in Espanol, etc. 0 -

This 'Mama Kitty'....the only thing she answers to.
Originally, she was 'Mittens' but, absolutely refused to answer to it.
As you can see, she was letting me use her reloading bench/nap area.

Have a little tom (15 lbs) that thinks he is a dog. Follows me around the yard, comes when I whistle, curls up beside my feet and sleeps. His only role model WAS a dog, and now my cat "identifies" as a dog. Likes playing in water, and will play "fetch" with a chew toy.
I've never had the heart to tell him he is not a dog that can climb trees. Thinking about seeing if I can train him as a bird cat for quail season. He's already got rabbit season covered.0 -
Why name them, they won't come when you call them anyway...
By the way I lived with a woman that had two cats, the male was named "Boy Cat" and I'll give you three guesses what she named the female cat, and the first two guesses don't count...0 -

Quite well actually they have a warm dry place to sleep, food and water in a heated bowl. If it gets down much below 20 I plug in a pet warming pad. I guess I am growing soft in my old age.
Cats can grow a warm winter coat in what seems to be overnight. These kittens were born outside, lived outside the office in old tires. When I brought them home to the barn it must have seemed like the Ritz-Carlton to them.0 -
we have the blind cat and one recent acquired stray ( wife brought home last week found wondering the field near my sons house ) in the house letting him get acquainted [B)]
but we have several out buildings the cats seem to choose one and claim it as there territory
so they are spread out . we keep food and water to them in several locations they all have blankets and small areas ( cat/ dog carriers and similar they can get in to conserve body heat also a heater and a light in one building just for the cats ..
if it gets below zero my wife will let them ( that want too ) in to our laundry room it has a door going out and a door separating it from the rest of the house . but some stay out all winter in the out buildings
by there choice for many years and do well ( also we have chicken coop one side full of straw they also sleep in
our cats and dogs have it better than I did as kid [B)]
oh about the dogs , they are inside all the time ( except potty breaks )

Ive never really been a cat person : But have got / had a few ?
I had a black female that was 'donated' to me : named it " sh ithook" :
Got an big old orange male "garfield" and a small black male with a half a tail "bearsy" ::: Got 2 Labs : Flash & Midnite :::: more than enough animals here : also , almost forgot : a orange & white stray cat that gets fed out back : No offical name ???

Thread reminds me of ?The Jerk?, Steve Martin movie when he named his dog.
My cat was named Ivan when I got him from the shelter. I call him buddy, stupid, numbnuts, fuzzy, dipstick, and Iben. He only comes when I open the fridge.0 -
built a kitty hotel out of 1/3 of a 30 gal plastic barrel with a floor in it..all insulated and a $10 heating pad on low under a blanket...put control in double zip lock bags to keep it out of the weather..2nd winter on rig so far ...keeps em toasty cheap....like Tom Bodet ...i'll keep the light on for you 0 -
We currently have Archie, Logan and Mack we will soon have a border collie puppy named Francine. All the cats know their names, Mack is down right doggish and will get in the shower with us,he's a big boy might be part Maine coon 0 -

Got two, the oldest is a 4 yr old nurtured Tom named Dammitcat. The other is a 3mo old Forrest cat of some type (she hasn't earned a name yet, we call her meow for now) 0
