Went exploring near Arivaca, AZ A few pictures!
Went exploring near my ranch on Monday. We are going to start building in about a year! I can't wait! It has been 12 years since we bought that property, and the waiting sucks.

There is, actually. Less than 5 miles from my ranch is an active, working gold mine! I've prospected in the area around there and found some gold.

Hey Merc, have you ever eaten breakfast at the Gadston Coffee shop on the east side of town (Arivaca)?
They have some of the best coffee on the planet too. 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 bacon and 2 pancakes are like $5 or $6.
I take my motorcycles all around that area. There are some dummy tanks out on the state trust land northeast of Arivaca. I have tons of pics of that area.
Most recently went to the lake for fun. The border road to Sasabe is fun too.
Ruby Road sucks, FYI.
I'm thinking of breakfast Saturday morning, maybe see you there. I need to change the tires on my bike and my new chain and sprockets should be here Thursday.0 -
That?s a nice area. It?s not real far from where we live in Elgin. Lots of nice places to camp, shoot, hunt, etc.
I had a chance to live in a lot of different places during my working years and found the climate and lifestyle in southern AZ suits me best. I wouldn?t want to live anywhere else.
Of course when people who live out of state ask about it, I tell them they are better off where they are and how much I hate it here with all the blistering heat, bugs, snakes, drug traffic and illegals. [}:)]0 -

HI: We moved to the free state of Arizona 5 years ago from the peoples democratic republic of washington and settled on the west side of the state. We love love Az and have been exploring the east side. That is a beautiful piece of property, congratulations!!!!!!! 0 -

thanx for the pics..and looks like from here you could fall off the edge of the earth...always wanted to pack in the rugged country with someone who knew his chit and pan gold, prospect , hunt some neat minerals, crystals , a cave ...whatever...waited to long and now the legs are shot....my best friend now gone use to go out to Quartsite Az in winter and camp, rockhound and such..taught himself how to facet stones and made jewelry for his wife and kids.... 0 -
That is about 2.5 hours from Mesa. I am an occasional hunter, but not serious about it.

That is beautiful! What kind of house are you going to build? Out there you got to go native and build adobe, I guess.
That is some exotic scenery to me, so far removed from the rainy mountains where I live here in North Carolina, so heavily forested. I love to look at that western landscape.
Out here, you have to go to the Ingles grocery store and pay $5 for a pound of mesquite to put on the smoker grill, looks like mesquite is more readily available to you.0 -
Arivaca is a great area, gray hawks nest near the cienega east edge of town. It is also an area where at least a few years ago a fair number of folks were strolling through the desert. Good insect hunting, good snake hunting, great place to grow cactus, man, you will have it all.[8D] 0 -
Ive hunted deer in Arivaca many times and its beautiful county. I really like the area around the Tres Bellotas ranch which looks completely different from Arizona desert country as can be. I ended up buying property in Sonoita so in about 5 years we will be long distance neighbors. Enjoy your beautiful property. 0 -

God NO, I HATE ADOBE! I have an adobe house now, and it SUCKS! Of course, it is 80 years old, but it is constant maintenance and patching and painting....
IF we can get the Pima County variance (which they said we should be able to!) we are going to build a container house, out of about 8 containers. That'll gives us about 2560 sq feet of space.
With the 9' high cube containers, the ceilings are nice and high.
We'll be 100% solar, so I'm going to put in a huge system and crank up the AC! [8D]
Yes, we have all the mesquite we need!

What kind of maintenance is needed for adobe? That is the only kind of American housing that I have never built.
Adobe always seemed like a good idea to me, supposed to cool down at night as you let the cool desert air circulate through, and then, shut the windows at daybreak and it keeps cool all day. That is the theory at least.
Never been in an adobe house.0 -
It is a good idea, yes. It is perfect for the desert, for sure! But it is a pain to maintain. It is basically mud mixed with straw, covered with 2" of concrete/stucco.
Like all concrete and stucco structures, it cracks constantly.
I'm sure the newer stuff is better, but the older stuff (my friend has a house that is 30 years old, same situation) really sucks.
One thing I LOVE about it is that my walls are 14" thick, and it is QUIET inside.

I have 120 acres, and looking to buy more! They aren't making anymore land!
There are the usual animals.....coyotes, bobcat, COWS, and even some pronghorn antelope that were released in the 1970s. I have seen them once, and went "WHAT THE......." Really weird to see them when you know they aren't native!
