I built this from the frame up and it's special gun

Forge monkey please help a brother out with an auction item

I would prefer this one went to one of our members - who can and will appreciate it

Please hit me back and help me out - what ever you can do or post or add to this thread

    Do you have any targets fired from a Ransom rest? 25 and 50 yards?

    Pretty is nice, but accurate is better.

    I spent the better part of 4 years gathering the parts and having work done on it...

    The frame and slide were matched or blueprinted for optimum function

    The vintage gem mint herret Olympic adjustable match target grips alone are worth well over $100.00 and were fitted to the gun

    The tri tone finish is a deep colt royal blue on the vertical flats and a flat matte finish on the horizontal surfaces (no glare along the top of the slides sighting plane)

    The fit and finish work would retail at close to $1000.00 today

    Titanium parts were not blued - aluminum parts were not blued - stainless parts were polished in certain areas

    Titanium firing pin and extractor

    The magazine is finished to match the gun

    Adjustable target sights that also make fair combat sights

    Drop free man release (pops them out)

    Match bbl - adjustable match trigger

    The videcki match trigger is no longer made - good luck finding a mint uninstalled one

    Compensator / muzzle break helps deflect noise away and helps with muzzle rise

    I never had access to a ransom rest but it's a tack driver in the right hands

    Currently set up with a heavy spring for 230 grain ball ammo but put in a less powerful spring and go with 180 grain semiwadcutters

    I called in favors - I horse traded - stole - finagled some amazing components

    I can tell by your post you have doubts about letting your baby go with all the effort and time care and thought put into it, I would have a difficult time if it was mine . I do hope it brings a price deserving of such a fine pistol
    I know it will fall out of my range of purchase , but do wish you the best of luck and it finds a new owner who has as much care for it as you do

    Cancer related medical costs force me hand...

    This was my dream project - and I did the best I could - with what I considered to be the best mix of parts

    The herrets were the cherry on top - amazing Olympic match grips - but easy to remove and replace with the panels of your preference

    Short of a handful of world renowned expert finishers I would say that the finish on this gun would be difficult to duplicate - and would cost a princely sum and take a while to get done

    The sights are the best compromise between high level match target sights and useable combat sights

    The photo do not do it justice

    I was told I could not build a world class pistol with my skill and my budget - and I made that gent eat his words

    Opinions and tastes and requirements vary but I am proud of this one - the last and best of my builds

    Someone is going to get a true bargain - and I would prefer it was one of our members...

    Such a versatile modular plug and play relatively simple robust platform with just enough parts to make it cry and sing.

    I love those grips but also had thick aged sambar stag and rosewood and African bubinga and crimson trace that looked spectacular - must have 30+ sets of grips and 30+ magazines

    And the flat stainless .22 Kimber conversion kit new in box with 2 additional blue nylon oem mag

    Always wanted to have it magnaported

    A deceptively clean appearance until you examine it further

    I suggest any interested buyer search GB for Essex and bid with that information in mind.

    That is unless the seller has proof of hardness testing.

    Does that 'match' barrel have a makers mark/brand name/part/drawing # (ala the National Match barrels)?

    You have actually made me cry...

    And feel sick to my stomach and I am having great difficultly concentrating on anything - I do not deserve this and am at a loss for words.

    Essex matched frame and slide were manufactured approx. 2003 (they soon discontinued the matched frame and slide program) (also had the trued or blueprinted to closer tolerances)

    All the screws were replaced from a kit available from brownells

    Videcki adjustable aluminium skeletonized match trigger made for the colt .45 gold cup (they went out of business a/o 2004

    Custom hammer - custom magazine release - custom oversized slide release - polished feed ramp - custom recoil spring buffer - frame and slide are 4140 carbon steel Rc 35-40

    Slide now has 60 degree forward angled serrations at rear of slide

    Custom titanium firing pin - custom bbl bushing - custom mainspring housing - custom titanium extractor

    Colt royal blue presentation grade finish - highest grade semi gloss number 11

    Sights - magazine base - top of slide sight plane - bottom edges of receiver - trigger guard interior are special matte finish / non reflective

    Replaced front sight white dot with a highly refractive bright red dot

    Hammer was polished and bobbed - 1/8" of metal removed from rear (to prevent skin web bites)

    Herret international Olympic adjustable vintage match target grips notched and fitted to gun

    Large custom target blade from sight with above referenced red dot in narrow tenon front sight cut (MGW manufactured)

    Custom target notch rear sight set in a 330" X 65? dovetail adjustable for windage with a target set screw (MGW manufactured)

    Bushing wrench combination screw driver and pin punch marked Stanley (part number 064149) and Allen wrench

    Shooting star standard magazine

    Multiple wolf recoil spring set from light to heavy

    Match bbl came from sarco - as did the custom compensator / muzzle break

    Custom parts came from brownells - sarco - Wilson - les baer - videcki - STI - ED Brown...

    I know that forgemonkey could have built it better and that several of you are grandmaster smiths as far as 1911's are concerned.

    I read and listened and absorbed and pestered suppliers and think it came out okay for a novice build - but as it was my dream gun my objective viewpoint is heavily skewed.

    I have always wondered what the opinion of the membership would be positive or negative.

    I have now sold over 100 firearms through locust fork and GB auction side - and while I must do what is needed to pull my weight and pay my way - the medical bills have been crushing and each gun sold has been like a piece of my soul ripped away - like my last legacy was being erased.


    It this real - are you actually going to do this for me - I am not worthy and have to put the phone down - to many tears and the shakes

    This has been hard for me

    How about any extra goes to help with medical expenses. Kind of like a Gun Broker go fund me.

    I have no words - I am not worthy - so many others are in worse off...

    Makaila called from work and I just lost my poope - told her I must be in a near death coma in the ICU again hallucinating...

    I am a shallow and pedantic narcissist and while I try to help the kids on the pediatric oncology ward it's never been good enough and no matter how hard I want or what efforts I attempt I always seem to miss the mark and it never seems good enough - like trying to hold back a stream with my hands but instead of water it's children's lives and souls.

    I get short with people and want to withdraw or disappear - and my faith has been shattered - cause on the ground level on the ward god's garden is full of weeds...

    Sorry my mind is spinning pretty fast and off center - cognitive dissonance and ephasia

    I am uncertain I am worth the effort or investment of time or money...

    I have tried so hard to stay in the fight - to somehow make the roads travails less soul crushing as others walk the path with me.

    When I try to sleep at night now I am haunted by the faces of dead children and my own mortality and body dismorphia and shame of being a burden on others and causing loved ones collateral damage - and not being wake to meet many of my obligations as a man...

    I am no hero or shining paladin - I am a pitiful wrecked remnant of my former self and a burden on those around me.

    What ever comes or whatever you may decide to do I can only promise to keep trying even though it's never enough.

    I'll volunteer to put a final bid in on it. I'll just need to remember to watch it. My only concern is how good of a seller Kasey is. Her no reserve auctions usually do pretty good.

    Gentlemen I have contacted Kasey and brought this unearned charitable act to her attention and requested that she be the final arbiter of progression...

    I wish in reality I was even half the man many of you seem to think I am...

    The truth is I am a failure and a burden and a disfigured cripple.

    I went ahead and placed a bid on the auction. Auction ends Sunday night at aittle after 7pm.

    Assuming I set my Max bid high enough, I'd say whoever will donate to it mail in a check? or money order to Kasey sometime on Monday.
