    The filter is very important but so is the oil. I use Mobile One oil and filter. According to my research their filter is as good as any made but it does cost a bit more, around $15.00. Five qts oil runs me around $30.00 so almost $50.00 for an oil change but it worth it to me and I change it every 7000 miles. My old Cavalier has over 260,000 and still runs great and just did my first oil change on my new Cavalier. I also run Mobile One transmission fluid and that cost right around $100.00 with a filter and do it every 40,000 miles.

    Before I was retired I changed the oil myself in all my work vans,,changed on the even 5000 so it was easy to keep up with,,always used walmart brand oil and fram filters,, never lost an engine,,got rid of each at 500,000 miles. The last one I gave away to a family in need,,It is still running strong,they now have over 650,000 miles on it and still using the same brand oil and filter

    Wix filter and castrol gtx high mileage synthetic blend... Around 24bucks for an oil change.

    I have a 77 k5 blazer with 175K miles and still running

    I've used K&N oil and air filters for many years. I especially like the hex nut shape that's stamped on the bottom of the oil filters so you can use a 1" socket and ratchet to to remove it.

    Change the oil once a year, usually less than 500 miles on old oil. What ever Jiffy Lube uses for filter and pennzoil ??? ???. Usually get a coupon from the web so the cost is always a good deal.

    Never a problem with my 1994 SUV with 111,000 miles.[:D]

    Also running the tires with old air but replacing all the valve stems 3 years ago means it's not really all that old.[:(]

    With almost 512,000 on my 5.9 Cummins Dodge I am convinced the bypass filter a Filtration Solutions FS2500 was a awesome investment. One oil change went 80,000 miles with the oil report saying it was fine do not change it yet. I could not see going any longer and changed it for the heck of it.

    I run Purolater main filters plus the FS2500 changing filters every 10,000 and the oil every 20,000. I am running Rotella T-6 now for the past 250,000

    In my Fords I use Motorcraft filters and Motorcraft synthetic oil.

    In the wifes Caddy I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil and AC Delco filter.

    I call BS it is the frequency and luck.

    I change oil every 3-5K miles, vehicle 1 has 299K and vehicle 2 has 170K no engine issues what so ever, no smoke no tick no knock.

    I have no clue what filter or oil is used I take it to the Jiffy place and get the cheapest.

    Probably Walmart brand oil is as good as name brand also. A lot of people use it with good results. You are just not paying the big name companies their cut.

    Didn't know the KNs had the hex nut. Only thing I need to find out is the microns of filtration to see what mileage they go to.

    Valvoline conventional/Fram in both trucks every 3k.
    One has 426k, the other 231k.
    No oil related motor issues in either, but then they are both Toyotas.[:D]
    Any good filter will remove the particulates but not the acids from combustion. Only frequent changes will remove those.

    I always used Fram filters in my '71 Cuda.

    I had a remote location dual filter bracket mounted on the fender. It made it much easier to replace the filters with the exhaust headers.

    I liked the color (appearance) of the orange filters. [:D]

    Best you can do for the vehicle. Oil changes. Get those free tire rotations when available.

    If you look at the API ratings on the bottle ,it is equal too or better than the big brand name oil,,trick is changing it regular,,I personally know people that never change their oil and then when they have an engine failure its the oils fault

    Todays engines are definitely a whole lot better built than they were in the 60's & 70's! The last several cars I have run have never even USED any oil between oil changes!

    I still check the oil out of habit when I fill with gas, but it is just a habit and I have noticed that it is very rare to see another driver checking their oil at busy service stations!

    This is exactly what Jiffy Lube does before the oil gets into their retail outlets.

    Combining three catalytic hydroprocessing steps (Hydrocracking, Hydroisomerization, Hydrotreating), molecules with poor lubricating qualities are reshaped into higher quality base oil molecules. Pour point, V.I., and oxidation stability are controlled independently.

    I?m thinking about dropping a few fired cartridge cases in my oil filter to help agitate the oil but should I use 9mm or .45.???

    I used to think that the brand of oil mattered.

    Then I went to the 'Bob is the Oil Guy' website.

    For practically any brand of oil you can think of, somebody has sent in a sample of their used oil to have in analyzed. Every time it comes back that the oil was still performing as intended, prior to being changed. No difference from most to least expensive.

    Put 300,000 hard miles on 3 cylinder geo metro using the above. And it was still going when I sold it.

    Agreed... There are since additives you can by. Lead additives as well.
