Jury Duty
Well it seems like i have been called again. I am 51 and this is the second time i have been called.
The first time they kicked me off the panel.
2 black men rapped and killed a white woman and i was for the death penalty so they dismissed me.[V]

Kid at school just missed two days of Class and he was behind before that.
I was just on jury Duty and they let students off all you have to do is say you are a student.
What was funny was one of the guys who is a Mexican was saying how his Dad gets out of it. He just claims he is an illegal. And they let him go every time. His dad was born here.0 -
My wife was called for Federal Jury Duty a couple weeks ago. I drove her the 76 mile round trip and dropped her off. While she was going through the process, I headed to a nearby mall that had a large sporting goods store with a great firearm section..Took a nice walk until it opened and then bought some magazines and ammo that were all on sale...
She was not picked, likely due to my past employment and she was done at noon. I ran back and picked her up and took her to lunch and then we drove back home.
A couple days ago she received a check for 96 bucks...50 for the day and 46 for mileage.
If I had stayed away from the gun store we might have broke even....0 -
I had jury duty scheduled for 08/06/18. I stopped in a couple of days earlier & wrote on the form that my snoring might bother the other jurors, judge & attorneys. The gal asked me how old I was & when I said 78 she said I would be permanently removed from the juror list. 0 -
I finally got picked to serve on a jury a month ago. A civil case so only 6 jurors. We heard the case one day, heard closing arguments the next morning and went into deliberations.
Took a quick poll when we got in the deliberation room and found that no one thought the plaintiff had a case. Took about 5 minutes. Talked it over for an hour trying to find a fault, but there was none. Also didn't want it to look like we had rushed to judgement.
Handed in the verdict, met with the judge and left. Got a check for $86 awhile later. Not a bad deal at all. No parking expense, the courthouse is in a city of 1900 people.
Oh, the case involved a person who walked in front of a pickup and got bumped. Fell down and hurt her shoulder. It was dark and she was wearing dark clothing. The pickup had stopped at a stop sign then proceeded into the intersection where it hit the plaintiff who was walking down the center of the street! A real no-brainer.0 -
It's interesting, I receive local jury questionaires on a regular basis and check the exempt box. My wife has yet in 10 years of living here received one. I am guessing my CC permit puts me on the radar. 0 -
Courts are as corrupt as the government. Best justice money can buy.
Filled with every political appointed azz licker with a $140k + a year job and they give you $15. Oh the repuke judge here $280k a yr.
I do not participate.
I make sure I get kicked out day one.

Our court pays for any parking tickets you get when at court for jury duty. 0 -
Since I'm Salary at work , they pay when I'm on Jury duty and the Court has parking areas that are free.
But something about me makes them not want to pick me.0 -

The defense did not like that i believed in the death penalty. He asked me if i could find him guilty and put him to death and i said if he did it then i could find him guilty and put him to death with no problem.
They also did not like that i had a degree.0 -
I know a lot of people gripe about jury duty, but it is part of the cost of living in a free country. We need smart people on juries who cannot be fooled by lies told by lawyers. Having idiots on juries results in too many bad verdicts. 0 -
where I use to work they would pay your regular wages for as long as your on jury duty ..
I was never called while working then I retired and guess what I have been called twice but both times it was canceled the day before to a plea deal0 -
Jeffb-The defense attorneys don't want "smart thinking" people on the jury. I've been called 3 times (never been picked) and you can just feel the direction of the picks[:(!] 0 -

A town of 1900, there's more then 1900 people in our court house alone on any given day.0 -
Day one didn't get called until almost 4:00 pm, right when I thought we'd be going home. Made it thru 5 rounds but the 6th one got me. I was listening to each potential juror stating their name employment history etc. The last question was how many times have you been on a jury. It was humming right along one, first time here, one, one, first time here etc. They got to me and I answered 6 nobody within 4 of me. Well tomorrow the lawyers start the day asking us questions and then they pick the actual jury. Hoping I miss this one as it will go into Friday. A guy with a concealed Glock 23 and drugs, that's all I'll say. 0 -

A friend was being asked questions by the defence attoney for a trial.
19 year old black, home invasion and rape of a 15 year old white girl.
When asked if he had kids, yes. Boys, girls? A som and a daughter. How old? My son is 17 and my daughter 15. Havinh a p p young daughter, will that cloud your ability to hear this case? No........There don't need to be a trial, just a body bag.0 -
I got summoned to jury duty for a defendant's 4th murder trial. He had one conviction overturned and then 2 mistrials. It was also featured on national news and "Dateline NBC".
Anyway, I had a prior business relationship with the defendant's family so I was excused. Being retired, I was happy to serve and would have been objective and would have enjoyed the $40 per day. The trial went on for 14 days and the guy was acquitted, mainly because there were no witnesses and his wife's body still hasn't been found.0 -

Yep they mentioned that but in the end you'll still have to go again. There's pretty much no chance of getting out of it unless you tell them in court your a racist or prejudiced.0 -
I think it is a person's civic responsibility to be on a jury.
So, two years ago I got called. I was supposed to be on the road, I had to jiggle my schedule around so I could be there for jury duty.
Missed two days work at $275 a day, so I could be paid $15 a day.
My brother was laughing at me, he said I would never be chosen, because I appear intelligent, and outspoken, and have a college degree. I didn't believe him I would be great for a jury I am fair minded.
I did get picked in the initial batch of 24. But then the prosecutor asked me a few questions, the defense lawyer asked me a few questions, and I was kicked out. Me and my big mouth I guess.
My brother was right.
I am not happy with the way they choose juries so if I ever get picked again I will save everybody the trouble, and ignore the summons.0 -

Got summoned once, for a time I had pre-paid an expensive vacation. Excused.

Served once, many years ago.
I remember it as a good experience overall.
The biggest thing I took from it was a complete understanding of why many times the lawyer won't allow the defendant to take the stand.
In this case, the defense lawyer made a terrible decision by allowing his client to take the stand. It only took a few minutes of hearing the defendant speak, before I was convinced he was guilty.
My next fear was that some of the jurors might side with the defendant based on shared ethnicity.
They didn't. It only took a few minutes to convict.
I'll probably never serve again.
I would challenge anybody to work in Corrections for even a year, and not develop an 'they are all guilty' attitude.

Called three times, "caught" two cases.
Both were civil cases with the defendant clearly at fault.
I did not get caught on the other but wished I had not had to go back to work when dismissed, it would have been interesting to listen to.
The plaintiff was suing his insurance company to collect on his deceased wife's life insurance policy. On the grounds that they should pay off because he had been acquitted of murdering her.0 -

It surprised me how many people are afraid to make a decision in judgement. It scares people. Yes, I wanted to find the person innocent and would gladly do it, but he beat the crap out of her. If it wasn't him, he wasn't talking when he should have. 0 -
Jury Duty day 2. It was the lawyers turn to ask us potential jurors a bunch of questions. I guess they didn't like the fact I had to many guns and watch to many lawyer TV shows or the fact I had a CCW or I asked them why Dr Jason Bull wasn't here. There were about 10 gun owners in the potential jury and I remember 5 of them at least weren't picked. There were also 4 other CCW holders there as well. Don't know if any of them got picked. After they didn't want me I was able to leave and got home by noon.[:)][:)] 0 -
I don't get the hate for jury duty, especially from people who are strong supporters of the 2A.
The right to a trial with a jury of your peers is no less important than the right to keep and bear arms.
With rights, come responsibilities. I consider it my duty as a citizen to report when asked, and do to the best possible job I can of being a fair and impartial juror. To do anything less I think is wrong.
Now, if you are getting called 6 times a year or something crazy like that, then you should maybe inquire to the clerk of courts as to the source of the data, and if it is pruned for duplicate entries, etc. Or maybe you have a small population county and a large crime problem.
And if you get called at a bad time - I have been called during finals when both teaching and taking classes - show up, explain that this isn't the week and that you'll be happy to be there the following Monday instead.
But dang, do your duty as a citizen!0 -
FWIW the one time I served was for a carjacking case.
Asked if I owned guns ("until that tragic canoe accident yesterday"), and if I had been the victim of a crime (my truck was stolen while I was out camping). Prosecutor looked happy, defense guy didn't even ask anything.
What disappointed me is that the defendant was only charged with car jacking, with an alternate charge of GTA (racing away in a stolen vehicle is all that is required). Nothing about possession of a firearm by a convicted criminal, use of a firearm during a crime, etc. WHICH THEY PRESENTED SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE OF TO CONVICT!!
All those "strong on gun violence" laws, repeat offender, etc. mean squat.0 -

The first time I got asked for jury duty was when I was about 20. I had the flu and couldn't report in. I got another letter that I have pulled jury duty about 8 years later. son of a gun if I didn't have the flu again. The third time was about 15 years later, shoot, I got the flu again... It's worked me all three times0
