Favorite revolver

For me its a S&W

629 4" Mountain Revolver


But its a mutt gun.



Ok here is the story. I wanted a S&W Mountain Revolver in 44 mag when they 1st came out. The problem was the unit I was in was always deployed or training and I had very little time at home(MY wife loved it BTW[;)])

This was before GB so I had to either find one in a Gun shop or get someone to order me one. I just didn't have the time.

Then when I went to a unit that was not gone all the time I started looking.............WOW they were expensive!

So I found a beat up 629-1 6" at a Gunshow in LA and bought it. Then I was looking on fleabay and found a 4" Mountain revolver barrel in 44mag some guy had taken off.

I bought it.

Then I took all the parts to Clarks Custom Guns in LA and had him put them together and do a action job on the gun. He did a great job on it and redid the forcing cone and some other stuff(He also tuned up a M58 I had).

I did not get it bead blasted or anything so the frame and barrel finish don't match but this is the best shooting and carrying gun I have.

But its kind of ugly and not worth much as it is.

    My favorite would have to be the S&W 642 Airweight .38 Special loaded with Buffalo Bore P+P semi-jacketed soft lead hollow points, I got from Ricci.

    It is my EDC. The gun I handle the most. I am very partial to it.

    My father in law had the work done, K frame rear sight and a1955 barrel.

    The only revolvers I have are Reichsrevolvers and the Japanese Type 26 revolver.

    I had most all of the Colt revolvers and sold them over the years as the money was fantastic. I guess the Official Police/Commando was my favorite although I did love the .38 Agent.

    I got a 586 a while back. It has a 6" barrel and I am really liking it.

    The only problem is its heavy but that tames recoil.

    Those are nice and well made.

    This was my "fishing gun" Its what I took fishing every year to AK. We went every year until he got too old and now he has dementia.

    My dad never liked hard recoiling guns so he carried a 4" M66 S&W as his bear spray.

    S&W M14 are nice. I have one with a 6" Barrel and patridge front sight. What a wonderfully accurate gun and fun to shoot.

    Super Blackhawk, 10" barrel with a 2 X Leupold. Had it magna ported & lightened up the trigger. Call it my meat gun. MANY deer taken over the years. Just something about it[;)]

    I can't say I have a single favorite. Any pre-lock S&W with the firing pin on the hammer appeals to me.

    Mod 66, 4?, SS, no dash. First duty weapon, purchased slightly used for $225 (I know, try that today.) As the years went by I passed it to my next younger brother (now deceased) until he was able to begin his collection. He then passed it to the next youngest (At that time he also, as yet, had no firearms.) when he moved to Fla for work. I?d almost forgotten about my ?old friend? until several years ago when that brother was in town, stopped by, and brought it back to me. I guess the circle is complete now. Yeah, I have many I enjoy, but the 66, for obvious reasons, remains my favorite.

    Mine is 10-1/2" in 454, w/ a 45 colt extra cyl...
    I'm old and it kinda hurts to shoot now...Use to shoot silouette (sp?) matches.. 45-50 rounds / week..Back in the day.. Still like to take it out and fondle it now and then...

    My fav is a S&W 66-1 4" Missouri Highway Patrol 50th anniversary marked with a badge number on the left side of the frame.

    Almost seems like S&W put some extra effort into it knowing it would be a cop's duty gun. Best shooting revolver I've ever shot. A retired cop friend said the same thing about it.

    Mine is my .45 cal of 1950/pre 26 S&W. .45ACP, 6 1/2" N frame with non relieved target grips. It seems to aim itself.

    S&W Model 35 22/32 Target.

    One of my dad's pistol team mates showed up with one on a practice Saturday back when I was a 'range rat'. I seem to recall I was 10 yo and Bob let me shoot that revolver. Fit me like a glove.

    20 some years later I saw one in the 'used guns' case at a local gunshop and brought it home. It's a great 'trainer' for youth and women folk.

    For many years I shot K frame S&W guns in .357 mag. M19 and M66 . when the L frame came out I purchased a M686 - 4" and a Lew Horton M686 2&1/2 inch.

    These were all fine guns and served me well. However today my favorite is a Rossi M720 in .44 Special with a 3 inch barrel. I fine tuned one for a friend of mine and became fond of the gun. I owned three of them at one time. These are in my opinion the best revolvers Rossi ever made. I had little respect for Rossi up until I came across the M720.
