The best possible combo, in my humble opinion.

What you got?? What you putting on it??

This is a GUN forum Dammit. Elucidate.

Picture did not post when I replied. Very nice.

You don't like the colors of what, exactly?

The scope and rifle. I think if the scope were a coral pink and the rifle done in a periwinkle blue that would be so pretty!![:)]

I have always been partial to old guns and period glass, but I do admit mid-range new glass is better than the best old glass. I am using a lot of holographic and red dots sights recently.

This was the first rifle I ever purchased. It came with a Bushnell Trophy 3x9 scope on it that has always had one lens that's cockeyed just slightly. I finally got fed up with it. The nice thing about the Vortex is the warranty. If I throw this down on a rock and break it, they will replace it. And the optic was indistinguishable (to my eye) from a Leupold that was $100 more.

    Nice!

    2 things I would do:

    1. Get rid of the rear sight

    2. Get lower mounts so the scope is closer to the action/bore.

Randy that is a great view. I assume you live somewhere out west?

I considered both when I put this on. You can't see it in this image but the front sight is on there still too. Both present with the old scope, which was actually obstructed more by them. I did actually have to take part of the rear sight off for this mount to work. Neither obstructs the lens significantly and the higher sight line actually works very well for me and my odd size/shape. So, I'm fine with them on. It's a bit nostalgic, for me, so I left it.

There is simply better glass made today than in yesteryear. The biggest difference is you can now by good glass on about any budget. I know there is a difference between good, better, and best. But now days good is pretty dang good compared to a few decades ago.

    What caliber and what use?

My sister and brother in law just moved to Spokane. I don't even have the address yet. My brother in law went to college at Washington State and always liked the area.

30.06 I use it for elk and deer hunting mostly. Can't wait to get this to the range and finish sighting it in.

Good round, can do about anything. You going to do the standard 3" high at 100 yards?

I have had this gun zeroed (and hunted with it) at 200 yards and 100 yards, with a 100 zero most recently. I will probably go back to a 200 yard zero. It really hasn't made much difference for the ranges I typically shoot.

Finally got it to the range Yeesh! Went with a 25/235 yard zero.

Indeed. The golf cart path is too narrow, and the club house is too far from the first tee.

Looks good, Randy. I don't own any Vortex optics, mostly Burris, but they seem to have a great reputation.

    Good luck with it.

    I would add:

    3. Get a higher stand so you don't shoot through the glass.

IMO the scope should cost as much as the gun. Its a sighting system with out it the gun is useless.

    That looks nice.

This is the first rifle I ever bought. I don't remember what I paid for it, exactly (somewhere south of $200), but the scope and rings are indeed more than what I gave for it.

The rifle had come with a scope, and TBH, I never could figure out why the POA seemed to walk all over the target like it did. Not horrible, mind you but enough to drive me crazy. This glass proves the rifle is still a tack driver.

Looks real good. If it holds zero its a keeper.

Can not beat the 06. Vortex is a great match, good luck Rand...

I think my neighbors might have something to say about that.
