Cabelas disappointment
Yesterday, a few of us took the two and a half hour drive to Cabela's in Hamburg PA. This is their largest store nationwide. We have been there many times before, Since Bass Pro shops bought them out, nothing is the same. All the Cabela's brand clothes and hunting clothes, are gone[V] The bargain cave is gone, as is a lot of isles and shelves. It is now just a Bass Pro shop, which I hate. They are only carrying redhead clothes, which if you want to dress like a yuppy with a pocket protector on your chest, then this store is for you. We stayed about half an hour and left. Cabela's is officially dead. RIP Cabela's, we won't be back again. !![;)][}:)][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][V]

I do not care for Bass Pro either, was a Cabela's fan.
I visited the Bass Pro in Springfield, Missouri once and seen their catalogs by the checkout for like $6 and goofy people buying them.
Bass Pro would mail the same thing out to customers free sometime later after you had made a purchase.0 -

Bass Pro builds stores in high-income areas and price their products accordingly. I do not trade with them.

Had the same issue. Kids kept giving me a Bass Pro gift cards. Every thing was so high and I didn't want to waste them on BS. But they do run firearms on sale occasionally as decent prices. I finally used all the card and bought a Remington 700 in .243win and some some fishing items. Told the kids to quit giving me gift cards for there, told them they didn't need to give me anything anyway.0 -
Locally, the Gun Library has gone downhill.
Used to have a fairly good selection of C&R weapons, but lately it doesn't look a whole lot different than the firearm sales desk.
Have purchased some very nice things from there in the past, but hardly even go into the store anymore.0 -
I was at the Cabela?s in Hammond, Indiana a few weeks ago and that seemed fairly normal, just the addition of the Red Head brands of clothing. 0 -

Same issue here the first father's day after a BP opened locally.
I managed to get them to price match Walmart on a 10/22 and a local store on Buckmark magazines, so I was able to get "real" value from the gift cards.0 -
Agree with you totally Oakie. Our cabelas in charleston, wv has turned into a basspro also. Gun Library going downhill fast, no more firearm layaways, transitioning away from good cabelas products and a lot of hunting products. Called and complained about the no firearms layaway policy. But Johnny Morris isn't worried about my little bit of money. He already owns both these corporations plus the biggest brands (Ranger, Triton, Nitro. Bass Tracker), of boats selling today. Very disappointed. 0 -
I've been to 2-3 cabelas lately and it's a junk shop now.
Huge disappointment.
Gun Library is a complete joke.
Bare shelves and cheap chinese crap.

As a member of the Cabela's Club Visa card program, I was a bit worried about losing a few hundred dollars I had accrued in bonus points.
About a month ago I bought my wife a new cast iron frying pan imported from France. To say it was a very impulsive, dimwit purchase of an over-priced item is quite an understatement![:0]
The pan is sooooo heavy, if you dropped it on your foot or your ceramic tiled floor you would break either and still have a pan that everything you cook sticks to it!![:0]

i bought a Mississippi engraved rolling block rifle from them 10 years ago...the only thing and it was a bunch cheaper than on the internet ...wichita store...but getting from store clerk thru checkout requiring a ID check was 1-1/2 hour ordeal...never been back.... 0 -
I kinda felt like I got hoodwinked by The Bass Anglers Sportsmen?s Society (B.A.S.S.). I used to read The American Rifleman pretty regularly. B.A.S.S. ran a few ads in the Rifleman saying a few bass fishermen were getting together and starting an association dedicated to bass fishing with a magazine modeled after the American Rifleman except for bass fishermen and I could be a Charter Member for the modest sum of five dollars.
I joined. Five dollars was a lot of money back then. The magazine quickly became a mail order outfit. With each magazine there was less and less emphasis on fishing of any kind. Wasn?t very long before they opened their first store. After that the magazine became an ?oh by the way, we have a magazine too?. I believe that was the plan from the start. ?Let?s start a chain of rip-off stores and let this dumbass ?Jim? finance it?.0 -

You are 100% correct. Was at the Rogers MN Cabelas, will never go back. NO Orange hunting stuff in the store. Bargain cave gone. Camo in bargain cave area. All on the floor orange hunting clothing now filled with casual mens and (mostly) womens clothing. Reloading supplies and equipment cut in half. Less staff. Larger boot and shoe department but some brands gone, replaced with Redhead. More useless to me fishing SCHITE! 0 -
I haven't been to a Cabela's since the Bass Pro deal. Hate to hear that they've changed Cabela's; I've purchased some extremely high quality prewar Colt Single Actions from their Gun Library. 0 -

Your lucky, I went to the Post Falls store to pick up a Remington 37. That turned into a 2+ hour ordeal. Came to find out from a friend that it was a common practice. The hope was that you would continue to walk around buying other stuff while they "processed" the paperwork. Happened again on a Savage MkII buy and I closed my account and never went back.0 -
Bought an "Adventure Series" electric smoker, from them for $149.00 recently. Added a mixed smoker pack of 5 different kinds of smoker chips. (5 lbs for $20.00.)
Cabela's Club Member. Catch them on "Sale," is the only time to buy from them.

That was my fear, (Them just turning into BassPro). BassPro is for yuppies/Rich people. I've been to several BassPro and Cabela's, and always like Cabela's better, Bargain Cave! Did they still have Used Guns or only new like BassPro? 0 -

the cabelas in kansas city is in the same toilet bowel! the bargain cave gone, gun library had next to no used gun except a small herd of ar's they had 1 style of orange to wear for deer season, I asked if there were any other choices the attendant said why these are selling like hot cakes! he did not like it at all when I laughed and reminded him that there were no other choices. he says HUH! and walked away from me. well thats the last time we make the hour drivde to cabelas. thank goodness we are blessed with a small mom and pop shop that handles anything you might need. or are willing to order it for you... 0 -

I was heavy into bass fishing in the 70's and 80's loved getting that Catalog and going nuts. Really wanted to visit a bass pro shop back then. Then I moved to Oregon and hooked my 1st Salmon. Have not looked back.0 -
Going to try to get to Cabela's in Owatonna this week to spend my $60 in credit from using their card. Then will end the use of their credit card which they just jumped the interest rate on.
Will keep the card for emergency use only as I have a fairly high credit limit available on it.
Last time I was there I bought a old Marlin lever I was going to convert to .32 H&R When I got it home I found out it was not as marked. It was a .22 with a very worn out bore at the muzzle, and was missing internal parts. Not one of my good "pay attention" days.
Got my money back the next day. Heard something they may close soon ?0 -

Wait a minute. I like Bass Pro Shop. I bought an 1858 Pietta Sheriff's model Remington .44 from Bass Pro online.
Then, I discovered there is a Bass Pro right down the road from my headquarters in Greenville SC, I drove over there in the 18 wheeler and bought another one, saved on shipping plus didn't have someone home to sign.0 -
I've also noticed that I do not get any Cabelas closeout email ONLY sales last couple months.[:0] 0
