If you do, you might as well have fun with the idea. Get a tshirt made that says in great big letters COMPENSATING or something pithy like that. Show a picture of a tachometer at 8,000rpm and the shirt says I CAN STILL GET IT UP.
Hey when you drive a crusty old Land Rover you learn to make fun of yourself.

Just one more dream car. Always liked it but would not want to find myself in this thing upside down in a drainage ditch!

I rode in a 300SL once when I was a kid. It took a week before I could get the silly grin off my face.

I was kidding earlier when I nominated the VW van as the most beautiful car. It really is ugly. For some reason I love this car and would love to get another one. Against all odds, the '71 van has gone into orbit in collector's world, and a good one today costs $35K. An old rust bucket with a blown engine costs $8 grand. Unreal.
.
However, this is a vehicle that really is beautiful. This is a 1967 Saab. It had a 3 cylinder and two stroke engine.
My brother had one of these, he bought a six pack of Saab two stroke oil. He would run it until nearly out of gas. Then he would put in one can of Saab two stroke oil and fill it up.
I love the lines on this car, would love to have one of these.
You can see Saab's heritage here as an aircraft manufacturer. I think if you put a propeller on the grill this thing would fly.

Regarding the VW bus. My dad must have owned at least a half a dozen of them including a pickup truck with the fold down sides. He really must have liked them a lot! I did a lot of riding in those rigs growing up and actually almost bought one back around 1981 or 2. It was IMMIC (not sure of the year of the van) an 78 VW Champaign Edition which had an automatic transmission.
I took it for a test drive and just about pulled the trigger on it until I found the heater fan lacking. The price that the dealer wanted was around 6K. From todays armchair it was one I should have......, but there have been MANY of those over my life!

Many, many years ago when I was about 7 or 8 years old my dad worked for a company that used crew cab VW pick ups for work vehicles. He would sometimes take me to school in the company vehicle and I thought, and still think they were the greatest vehicle ever to do the job they were built for.Dad explained to me that the key had a VW emblem in it.I still have one of those keys in a combination Junk/treasure drawer.
