Did the transaction involve any items which are specifically prohibited under PayPals terms of service?
    https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/acceptableuse-full

    Including, but not limited to:

...ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law.

Naturally you read what Gun Broker has to say about using PayPal:

They did the same to me several years ago and I've not given that company one dollar ever since.   You do not have control of your money if you are agreeing to their terms.....AND.....they donate millions to gun control.   Hopefully you will be done with them after this lesson.

Paypal sucks.  eBay sucks.  Amazon sucks.  I try very hard to avoid doing business with any of them.

The chances are about 99% that it is a phishing scam. Log into your Paypal account - NOT through the email notification link! - and check your genuine messages from them. Assuming all is fine, IMMEDIATELY change your password there.

Hopefully you didn't give them your social security number.
Recommend you go change your password on the actual paypal website.

Yes. Terminate your Paypal account. In my opinion Paypal is a scam. Read their contract if you have a couple of days.

It’s most likely not a scam or phishing or whatever you want to call it. My PayPal account was permanently suspended at the end of November, after using it for well over 100 successful gunbroker transactions. The last person that sent me a payment decided to attach a itemized summary of all the ammo he was purchasing from me, he wrote out the brand names, calibers, quantities of each type, along with the bullet weights and bullet types. I have 6,800 dollars in my PayPal account from where I’ve been selling some excess ammo throughout the past 8 or 10 weeks. They’ve frozen the entire $6,800 balance for 6 months in order to cover themselves against any chargebacks and/or refund requests that might surface against my account. I was accumulating a large PayPal balance from selling ammo so that I could apply it all towards the purchase of a Pulsar Thermal Scope this winter. However, I can only blame myself, I knew i was pushing my luck, I’ve read too many stories where this exact same scenario played out. If you’re using PayPal for gunbroker, you should drain the balance every day or two, Use the PayPal app to withdraw up to 500$ Cash from your PayPal balance at your local Walmart. My PayPal account had been in good standing since I opened it in 2001, I received no prior warnings, just a notification that i was permanently suspended, and then my appeal was quickly denied the following day. If you’re receiving money for guns and/or ammunition through PayPal, require funds to be sent through the friends/family gift option only, with no comments or description attached to the money. Please let my costly experience be a reminder of what can and will eventually happen to you if you’re using PayPal for transactions involving guns and/or ammunition!

PayPal must be an acceptable form of paying for guns, ammo, and components now based on the number of sellers here on GB that accept it.

    Read the User Agreement

You may need to empty all your accounts. Paypal revises it's user agreement often. If I remember correctly a Paypal user agreement in the past stated that if Paypal determined there is a problem then Paypal could access ALL your accounts. That is what I believe. That is when I terminated my Paypal account. It took determination and a Looooooong time to do it. If I remember correctly shortly after section #11 of the user agreement Paypal was sued. I don't know if that was the reason and if it is presently valid but it is worth checking out to be safe.

Lots of sucking big air now days from customer Service people they like to use Covid as an excuse. They (customer service)just got worse when using the Covid as an excuse to SUCK bigger.

(I have a Xhit list and when someone get's on it due to leaving a bad taste in my mouth they never get removed and I do not even have to refer to the list to see if they are entered, I never forget them)

feel free to add to this list

Venmo, another money transfer business, is wholly owned by Paypal.

    We have been warned!

I keep this one in the back of my mind when buying anything using Paypal.

adds new meaning to the term: Better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it.

When Paypal suspends access to your account for several days or months.

No need in crying and whining. It's in their contract that you signed. Take couple days off and read what you accepted.

I do not understand how people who are "gun people" can support and pay into a service that is doing all it can to destroy the firearm industry. If you love dogs, would you pay Cruella Deville to dogsit your pets?.....thats pretty much what you are doing. Why not just donate directly to the anti-gun charities and cut out the middleman?

I thought everyone knew by now Paypal and Square are big no no's for gun related items. Yes they can freeze your account, part of the Terms of Service you agree to.
