Single shot Shotguns, Anyone else,
Keep multiples out of the safe scattered around, behind doors, etc. Loaded ready to go? Ammo bands on each. 6/7 reloads.
My go to Idiot proof wake up in the night gun.
Inexpensive guns with lethal capabilities kept out of the safe, due to space restrictions.

I have a few and when you could pick them up for reasonable prices I have given several away to young shooters. 6 -
Not a fan of single shots for self defense. Reloading after each shot is not an idiot proof operation, IMO.
Have my nightstand piece which is an idiot proof SA/DA autoloader, a pump action shotgun (because everyone knows that cycling a pump action scares the bejesus out of an intruder) and a AR Carbine ready to go.
All are well hidden but easily accessible and are always in the same place and readiness conditions to avoid any surprises.0 -

Simply saying I have a few single shots stashed around. If you have handled them enough growing up, re-loading one is second nature.

My single shot is for trap. For self defence it is either the wheel gun in at 6, the autoloader in at 7 or 14. 3 -
I keep a S&W 642 Airweight in .38 spcl. on a leg holster attached to the upright of my bed, by my head. I also keep a 20ga. Mossberg 500 bedside.
Single shots scattered around.
Just saying. No kids or wife, to worry about. Plenty of on hand firearms. Just throwing out my single shot 12ga. Proclivity.
Not saying/implying that is all I have at hand.

So you are like climbing over single shot shotguns on you way to the bathroom five or six times per night?? Are they loaded?!?!?!?! Is Buddy safe with all those loaded weapons laying about???? Are you Paranoid??? Why do you need so many guns?? What is wrong with you????? Belay that last question, probably use too much bandwidth. 3 -

I reload these from the pocket of a shooting vest and it is very quick. Have not tried from a bandoleer, but can't see myself being comfortable doing so if there are a couple of people in my house up to no good.

I do. I've used single shots all my life and have a few stashed around. When I lived on the farm I kept a single shot 12ga and single shot .223 in the barn along with ammo for each. On a farm you could need a gun for a lot of reason and then I figured if I was caught away from the house "I am not going to be killed for lack of firing back."

I have 18 single shot break open shotguns...
Both makaila and Mackenzie each have a .410 and a 28 and a 20 in their gun lockers / wall safes...
While of course their are better more capable and advanced platforms for self defense out there they are cheap and monks export level of operation and readily available - certainly for most more accurate than a pistol - they are a valid home defense gun even more so when used in concert with a house pistol.

Years ago, a large friend known as Tiny was night clerk at the local stop and rob. Gremlin showed up with a single shot 20, announced a robbery. Tiny says that's cool- but the boss is going to fire me if your gun is not loaded. So gremlin aimed straight up, fired his SINGLE SHOT SHOTGUN.
Tiny pulled a 3 iron out from under the counter and beat him black and blue.6 -

I have one, an Italian made with a vent rib and a trigger to open it. Its in closet, empty to make room in safe. 3 -

I have a old ithica 410 my dad bought for 8 bucks and I claimed when I was about 8 or 9 yrs old
dad told me when he was younger some of his buddies had pump guns but a pump or auto were way out of his price range he had a old single shot but taught himself to hold shells between his fingers and do fast reloads using that method and got decent at it .3 -
The Iver Johnson Hercules is a perfect live outside the safe gun. Local gun show, Bud's and I were wandering around. This one caught my eye. First because the barrel looked so short, second because it has a solid rib on top. It looked like a 10ga.
It had been professionally shortened and a brass bead mounted on top. Black Cerakoted. $100 bill and it was all mine. I measured the barrel before completing the sale. Later, in the same show wandering around, I was standing next to a State Trooper at a table, both of us looking at firearms. I noticed he kept looking at the shotgun broke open and carried in the crook of my arm. I told him "I know it looks short. I measured it before buying to be sure it was legal, would you like to check it?"
He said, "No, that's good enough for me."
Wears a butt stock ammo band with 6 more shells in it. At the very least, it is an awesome club with good balance. 😉

Single shot shotguns, may be a more regional thing. Here in the sticks growing up, that was what was around. Big in NC, TN, VA, W VA etc. Other areas of the Country probably not so much.
1st gun I probably ever shot was my Pap Paws single shot 12ga. (I took my hat off before shooting it, he turned around and started laughing, thinking the recoil took it off.)

* a webley .455 converted to shoot .410 gauge shells with extended bbl and an adjustable choke (to kill messenger pigeons)

I've got some of them #8 tracer shot shells.
Bet that tracer would burn more than rock salt burns. (if they did not go down on the first shot you could see the tracer burning in the dark for the second shot if they were running or flopping around)

While some think I don't actually own any guns and only "steal" pics from the internet...
It's fun to take two dozen snapshots with my phone over the course of an hour that will blow people's shift back...
Just casual pics of stuff laying around the house or pulled out of deep dark storage that does not even represent the prime of my collection but are interesting secondary blowby pieces acquired by chance at random...
How odd that the objects of my primary concern sometimes garner no interest but the crap I have laying around excites folk...
How many pics of unobtanium unicorn white whale guns must I post being held in my own hand...
Still nice that some appreciate it.
