I remember when I was 50 having a doctor tell me that statistically, once you make it this far you have a very good chance of making it to a good old age! Guess he may have been right as there have been a lot of friends and acquaintances that never got to 50!
Anyway Daniel, I hope you had a very Happy Birthday!0 -

Fifty is more or less the starting gate for genuine adulthood. It's about now that your opinions begin to become noted, your emotions have settled, and your body is in its coasting phase before the downhill really begins. You have achieved what the ladies call "rugged good looks" and the grizzled look is appearing in your hair and beard.
On the down side, you really can't get away with acting silly any longer, you need to start seriously looking at your retirement finances, and any fun toys you buy will be attributed to midlife crisis. You're too young yet to mix with genuine geezers, but the company of stallions isn't comfortable, either. If you haven't yet, you'll soon be checking out drugstore cheaters to read - the first of the aftermarket accessories you'll be using.

Can totally relate to the 50's, "being the in the coasting phase where the downhill really begins."
Parts starting falling off at that point.
(58 now.)

I did not need any $2.00 cheaters until age 54. That was 8 years ago, I have 10 or so pairs forgetting I need them for close work . They are still 1.25's and allow reading at book or computer focusing distances. Going all those years without the need for them had created a void in habit. Now, I need them and for the life of me I can't remember to put a pair in my pocket. Now, I just place them everywhere so when needed they are handy. One thing you will discover is the willingness to let things go, they do not matter; and FORGIVE TRANSGRESSIONS, you will anger less and smile more when you forgive others and yourself. Aging is a process of growth, look back be happy and keep on truckin'. It only get s better!3
