Bread in your area?
Good luck finding it. Worse/equal to TP.
We got a bread delivery about a week ago. People saw the truck in our parking lot. Came in in droves. Wiped it out. Kicking myself for not having grabbed a loaf.
I have sandwich meat. Nothing to put it on. May resort to lettuce/flour tortilla wraps.

I went a few days ago and while not fully stocked there was bread available. There was a 3 package limit of bread products and many brands or types were out of stock. I bought 2 loaves of of whole wheat bread and a pack of hot dog buns. I put them in the freezer so they would be on hand. 0 -
Come on Betty Crocker surely you can whip up a few loaves of bread. You don't have any of that sour dough mother or whatever it is?? I thought you mountain folk didn't need to go into town to buy vittles. 0 -
Dandelion bread recipe
Dandelion Bread. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Combine dry ingredients, including dandelion petals, in large bowl. Get a little helper to help stir. In separate bowl mix milk, beaten eggs, honey and vegetable oil. Add to dry ingredients and mix well. Get a second helper if you have one and let them both stir.6 -
I haven't had any problem finding bread, including hot dog buns. When I went shopping last week the store was sold out of the brand of wheat bread that I prefer, so I had to settle for the store brand wheat bread. Otherwise, there seemed be plenty to go around, and with no limits. 0 -
Last bread I bought was at Food Lion. About 2-3 weeks ago. (Wiped out.) Had to resort to buying the last of a few loaves of inexpensive white bread. (I hate white bread.) The only other options were the $5-6 artisan loaves. Not too many of those either.
We have not seen any bread in the DG store I work at in over a week. People come in everyday, saying it is unavailable in all the local grocery stores.

Not much in our area lately. No yeast either. BUT.....plenty of beer. As such, we have been making piles of Beer Bread. Delicious. 6 -

Out of bread a week ago but a little last night. A few rolls of paper towels. Have not seen a roll of toilet paper anywhere in over two weeks. College kids laughing, filling up carts and taking pictures. I did not see the humor two weeks ago. Alcohol, vitamin c, bleach, anything that will kill a germ, forget it. Bottled water starting to come back. Restrictions on lots of stuff that are fast movers. A week ago was in Shoprite around 9:30 , most stuff I needed was out and at 10:00 pm Manager demanded that I leave. really was rude. They reduced hours and usually let you finish if you were in before 10:pm. It is what it is and I go late with a mask on because I have COPD. Cashiers have plexglass shields up to protect themselves somewhat.
Had to pick up two prescriptions at Walgreens last night and you stand outside and they let one in when they say you can enter. Picked up four rolls of toilet paper and took to RX counter and they were $7+. No thank you and back they went. Will wipe my back side with some cheap Shoprite napkins. Dad was tighter than bark on a oak tree and I guess some of it wore off on me.
Got a refund from Treasury Dept yesterday for $32 for a $50 co-pay to VA over in Castle Point (got hearing aids and only time i ever used the VA) They submitted a bill to my health Insurance Co. Took check to Chase Bank for a little cash and line all around bank at outside ATM machine. THE BANK WAS CLOSED and I think people were in shock! I am old school and guess I should have got a debit card years ago.
If my wife were not in her present condition I would have locked the door and bailed for my 2nd home in Fluvanna, County, Va. a few weeks ago. If you folks in Va. saw the NY plates on my 2020 Ram you wound probably stop me at the state line, and I could not blame you. If King Cuomo can save lives more power to him but I would say I know more about the bad side of him than most people alive.. He is a Wolf in Sheeps clothing.

The stores must be getting caught up or at least where we live they are. We went grocery shopping yesterday and there was plenty of everything except for toilet paper. They did have paper towels and wet wipes. We only go to the grocery store about once a month so we've not seen any shortages yet. The last time we went was at the first of February before the big run and everything was stocked up and now at the end of March the shelves were stocked. 0 -
If you got yeast, flour, and salt I can help you. 3 cups of flour, 1 tea. yeast, 2 tea salt, mix with enough water to make a sticky heavy mix. Let rise for 8 to 18 hours, Put in dutch oven or bread pan and bake at 350 for 40 minutes. You can add a handful of raisens, craisens, or olives for variety.. easy peasy and you dont have to be a chef to do it. I sprinkle a little cinnamon on top of the loaf for kicks and giggles. Pre heat the oven for 30 minutes while the dough is finishing off in the Pan 0 -

Our local market's deli section is cranking out all kinds of baked goodies. French loaves, Kaiser rolls, rolls and loaves of every description - all practically going begging while the shelves of commercial sliced pap get stripped clean every morning. The only thing I can say is that it's bizarre. The lack of preservatives in the fresh items might be the only explanation. 0 -
While I enjoy and like the fresh baked, the lack of preservatives give it a very short shelf life. That is a drawback with the current situation.

We have a bread store just up the road. Bought 10 loaves of the good stuff. Had about 5 left in the second freezer . We are good for about 2.5-3 months. 0 -
Seem to be caught up here. Plenty of bread, etc. The only things missing are butter, frozen pizzas and stuff ya feed kids, tp and bleach. No more crowds pushing and shoving. That, if not so sad, would have been amusing to watch. I have had several folks call me looking for ammunition. Told them “Sorry guys, if ya didn’t learn the last time I really can’t help ya now.”

I know a guy that drives a bread truck locally - he set aside 8 loaves for me which I have in the freezer chest...
I had 3 intact loaves as of this morning ready to eat...
I have a dozen Kaiser rolls frozen and an Italian baguette frozen.
Have 2 box's of red lobster Chesapeake bay biscuits that can be made...
I have 8 of the little packages you put in the bread machine.
I think I'm good for awhile.

People around here call it tortilla. Saw a Mexican woman hoard the bags of corn meal/flour "maseca" not that she was going to make it herself she said as she chit chatted with the cashier. I guess it's hard or messy or time consuming?
Either way I reckon times like this folks should diversify in bread making.

Not a problem for me - I don't eat bread.I take my Alzheimer Aunt shopping and last week all bread was gone except for 6 or 8 packs of hot dog buns.Alzheimer's is very sad (my mother had it) but watching my Aunt in the grocery store is intriguing.She spent 15 minutes diligently searching the empty shelves, then inspecting the hot dog buns, package by package. She could not comprehend the fact there was no bread.
She finally crossed the isle and searched the meat cooler for the missing bread then bought a bunch of canned biscuits.

We have bread in the stores here but not the kinds I like most. Flour has been absent on the shelves everywhere for over three weeks now. We only stock about five pounds here at home normally and it is now nearly all gone. I did score a couple bags of the frozen bread dough last time out last Tuesday. 0 -
Thanks Jim/GG and Jimmyjack. (But) As mentioned by a previous poster, Flour is like bread and TP. Not seen in a while. We have people stop in to DG when the larger chains/grocery stores are out.
About 2 weeks ago on our last bread delivery, People saw the bread truck in our parking lot, and our store got swarmed while the guy was still there. It was all gone in about 2 hours. We have not seen any since.

I can bake bread. Have 200 lbs of flour we use in the concession business which looks like it will not get used this season. My problem is when I am not busy, if I bake a fresh loaf of bread I have no will power, I will eat the whole loaf when it is fresh.
It is not a problem when I am working the concession as we dont' have time to even catch a even one full meal most days.3 -
Bread..probably the worst thing you could put in your body..lol....now folks are fighting for it.. 0
