again regardless of how I ran across it I watched most and skimmed thru it about 40 minutes I think it was ,
honest I never knew about it as I will bet a lot have not, WWI took center stage the same time frame , but millions died world wide even in the US 675K or so died from it the flu ( if I remember the numbers called out ) possibly started in Kansas on a farm of all places the war allowed it to travel with the troops word wide
I plan on looking into it more later on ..but wow I agree if you never heard of it check it out shocking to say the least

This is a major concern of mine.
I’m currently in far Western Egypt and quite secluded from any population, but just this morning our security in Cairo notified us of the first confirmed case in North Africa has been documented in Cairo.
If it gets started there, it will likely run rampant as 25 million or so live packed like rats and Mark Christian can attest to that as he visited Cairo a couple years back.
It gets bad, I could possibly be stuck out here in the sand for awhile.

That's why I suggested looking it up, ditch-runner. You may know that there was an influenza pandemic, but not the grisly details. It killed as many as a third of the world's population. And that was before air travel. We have better medicine now, but that may not help much wit the possible speed and degree of spread we're facing.

Actually, it would probably be better to get infected now, ( if you are in a first world country ) rather than later, presuming no vaccine or definitive therapy will be developed to address an outbreak.This assumes that antibodies are created and maintained long after you are cured. I am unaware that this has been established.

I was thinking it would be better to get the disease before the hospitals are overwhelmed. But if you make it through only to get it again then that shoots that theory down. My Grandfather died in 1919 from the Spanish flu. He was in his late thirties. He was my namesake and I have postcards he sent my Grandmother, it looks like my hand writing and that I signed them. Flu shots came out when I was in my thirties and I've never missed a year since. When I was about sixteen I was at a family funeral and looked down and saw my complete name on a marble stone. To state the obvious, if the coronavirus were to spread worldwide there would be a large decrease in population, and a significant economic collapse unless a viable vaccine is developed quickly and is distributed and administered. The virus is starting to impact the economy here. Businesses are not receiving shipments of parts needed for production, layoffs will begin soon here and we cannot ship a lot there depending on our two governments. China may want to receive own grain to feed its people. Energy wise, the US, Canada, and maybe Mexico are more energy independent than a lot of the world.
I suppose the USA and other first world countries may end up better off than those with lesser healthcare systems to treat a pandemic than in 1918 when there were no vaccines and less knowledge and technology.
Got my annual flu shot months ago, still have prepping food and, ammo so I will sit back and watch the developments and elections.0 -

I started warning people about China 20 years ago. Their ascendance into being an economic powerhouse has only been made possible by the American consumers. If there wasn't a market for those "millions of tons of useless chit" then they couldn't flood our economy with it. As far as where the virus originated, at this point the answer is moot. If the outbreak gets going here I wonder just how well we would do with containment actions if a major population center like New York or LA get hit. I am betting on riots happening about the second day as the snowflakes protest the the govt doesn't have the right to restrict any ones movement by placing a city under quarantine. If the virus takes hold here I don't think it will be the end of times but it sure will change a lot of things - most not for the better. Bob0
