.357mag Rifle Suggestions?
My Son who is also shopping for a rifle, is in the process of aquiring a .357mag revolver. Savage 170 had the excellent suggestion of considering a .357mag rifle. What would you suggest?
Thanks.

There is also a few pump actions available including the Taurus thunderbolt and the IMI timber wolf. If he wants optics the Henry Steel with side gate the Rossi isn't a easy platform to mount optics on. Once in awhile I'll see a Winchester 94 trapper for a reasonable price

I've been wanting an IMI Timberwolf for many years now. The last one that went up on Auction on GB, went for $3081. (About 3 weeks ago, I believe through LF.) Yes, $3081. Not an option.
If my Son were to buy one, I would drivevout to CO. and take it from him. Not a viable option though, due to what they are going for. $$$
Was unaware of the Taurus Thunderbolt. I forwarded that info. That way all the Taurus haters, can really zero in. A Taurus revolver paired up with a Taurus Long Arm. I can hear them now. Ricci can climb back up on his Soapbox. ๐

Ruger bolt action model 77 in 357 ... quality and will last forever and hold its value

I know this is not really what you are looking for but I thought it was kind of cool;

The Henry side gate looks like the best bang for the buck. I wouldn't get one of the stupid looking brass ones. They make an all weather model that is stainless steel I guess. Form looking at the auction side it looks like a Rossi is going for about 6-700 bucks.
Didn't Ruger make the M96 in 357 and I think they made a bolt action in 357 too.

Your welcome
How about a tactical rifle

I have an older Rossi Model 92 in 357Mag. It's a fun gun to shoot, very accurate and can shoot 38 SPCL. It's one my daughter learned on after graduating from .22LR. As a matter of fact, she has already claimed it for her own.

Gonna be more of a HD/Zombie gun. Rapid fire would be important.
Sam06 - I believe that is about the Fugliest gun I have ever seen.
*Except Ricci's comment on the link I provided for the Taurus Poly 605 .357mag revolver my Son popped on. To hear him tell it, that is the fugliest gun ever made.
My Son is happy. I'm happy he is arming up. He has something that they can plink/practice, download with .38 Special or load up with .357mag for HD or Bears when out hiking. Better than the .38 Special or the 9mm's they were looking at. YVMD.
I'm really torn up that Ricci does not like it. ๐ข

Didn't know the Timber wolf got that expensive I passed on one about a year ago at the gun show for 800.00 thought that was to high I remember when they first came they could hardly give them away.

Itโs good to have a rifle and a pistol that shoot the same centerfire bullet.

Another vote for the Rossi 92. I like mine just fine.

I have 3 such Combos Jim.
Big Fan.

Yep, my Rossi 357 works. Liked it so much I bought one in 44. Good deer rifles for under 100 yds.

I would look for an older Marlin.

Marlin model 94 with 16 inch barrel. Short, light, fast and easy to use. Shoots any 38 Spec or 357 ammo. Magazine holds 8 rounds. Being a Marlin, remove one screw, slide out the bolt, and clean the barrel properly from the rear unlike the horrid Winchester 94.

I found one Bolt action Ruger in 357 on the auction side and it was over $800..........ouch

$$$$$.
Again, looking for an Everyman's Utility Rifle, while holding the price down. A Young Couple trying to pay for things, but still pick up some practical Self Defense firearms.

I have one of the 92's and like it.

I would start with what I want the rifle to do and work backwards from there.

I have actually liked some Taurus products. However their design team remind me of the folks who design women's high fashion in that have no concept of what a woman or a gun should look like. A revolver with a clear side plate and a grip that's just plain stupid.
Then we have the brilliant "CURVE" cause a bent hunk of plastic makes perfect sense.
I have sent many more Taurus guns back for service than any other brand, way more. The small and mid sized autos were the worst with a few small revolvers as well. I hated the 1911 guns they built so much so that my guys knew not to take them in on trade. The large Beretta copies always seemed to run ok.

That revolver is hideous. Anyone who would fork over almost 600 bucks for that is insane.

After talking to my Son, and sending him the link, the Rossi was Perfect for him. Sharing ammo, and being able to use .38 Special or .357mag.
We threw a bid in ot it, it went towards our max right off the bat. I told him to let me hit the BIN, as it would hit the max, or someone would hit the BIN. in the next two and a half days. Hit the BIN. I'm putting $100 towards it for him.
Thanks Steve/Neo.

My pick would be for a Henry.

I would agree with either the Henry or the Martin with the .357.
The point way above about the side gate vs the Henry Tube should be considered. I prefer the Henry action to the Marlin 1894 as it is smooth as silk. The Marlin action is fine however.
The only problem is that Henry has slapped an MSRP of close to $ 1,000.00 on their steel side-gate .357 lever gun.
Marlins are not cheap either.
