I can drive on ice, and have done so many times. I don't though, because of all the other vehicles on the road driven by people who can't drive on ice. Most Texicans just ain't used to it, and TXDOT is way above their depth trying to clear roads. I feel very blessed to be able to stay home on a day like this.

In Fort Worth, there was a crash on I-35W involving some 133 vehicles. Six people were killed and lots more were hurt and/or unable to get out of their wrecked vehicles for hours.

I'd hate to be the officer having to investigate this crash and determine who messed up and when.

In the 80's I was in Houston when the roads got slick. What a show.

I went to Texas Tech, located in Lubbock, TX (at the base of the Panhandle for the map impaired)

Mad for a mix of North Texans, South Texans and imports. (Knew two girls from New York who actually expected dirt streets and guys carrying six-guns)

As a North Texan who had driven in mud and snow the occasional snow we got meant to stay off the roads -- not because I couldn't drive but because so many of the South Texans, imports and even locals COULD NOT DRIVE IN SNOW!!!

Pull up a chair and enjoy the mayhem/demolition derby at any intersection🤣

Glaze type ice, the whole 70 miles home from work tonight. Usually takes an hour. Took an hour and 1/2 tonight, on I-80 in SW Iowa.

Lots of accidents coming out of Council Tucky, but none, save for the few Southern state license plates folks, in the ditch or median the rest of the way.

You know you can't steer, on ice, with your foot on the brake, right? And you shouldn't use cruise control in inclimate weather, also?

The forecast indicates that we are supposed to be below freezing for the next 120+ hours with 4-6 inches of snow predicted here in East Texas. This is almost unheard of here! We've been below freezing the last two days. I think they are predicting a low of 7 degrees on Wednesday of next week. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I'm a Native Texan, transplanted to KY by Uncle Sam and certain young (at that time) lady. (42 years together so far)

One December we were taking 6 month old #1 son to meet his Texas relatives. Headed down the interstate and a few hours later the day was getting dark and I didn't like the look of the clouds ahead.

Then a car about a mile ahead suddenly went sideways and wiggled a bunch before slowing down and getting going again (but much slower)

I got off the gas as soon as I saw the slide and got real careful before we hit the ice patch. Drove with right tires on grass to the next exit, got a motel room and called family we weren't gonna make it.

son slept in a drawer, we slept in a cheap bed and headed home for a quiet holiday.

It's gonna get icey here in South Louisiana on Monday. Monday night into Tuesday lows are somewhere between 11-18 degrees. I'm going to attempt to save my citrus trees. ☹

We used to "ice skate" behind the city buses in Amarillo...........those brick streets ice over quite nicely.

You folks be careful down there. If you have to drive the key is to go slow, no quick movements of any kind. You may be able to get that car up to your normal 70 miles an hour, but you WILL NOT get it to stop!

Been driving in Michigan winters most of my life and "knock on wood" have survived to talk about it. What I hate the most are drivers that TAIL GATE! 😡 We have a lot of them and I know to slow down when the roads get bad but just so many seem to want to mate with my back bumper!

The thing that amazed me about the Fort Worth footage was the cars on the "frontage" road going passed that massive

pile of cars and trucks appeared to be going way faster than prudent. Guess they were just trying to avoid the wreck as

    quickly as possible.

Speed kills when driving on icy roads. I mentioned above that I slow down when roads get bad.

I have had a few experiences where some in a big hurry person tail gates for a stretch and then passes me during these times. One memory is a guy who flipped me off for doing 50 in a 55 mph zone on slick two lane roadway as he passed me. He sped away like the green light just lit up at a dragstrip! Less than a mile down the road I passed him in the ditch, buried in a snowbank.

I just smiled and waved as I passed him.

reminds me of a convo with my sister some years back when they had the "big snow" in Ga.

an inch or two, airports closed, roads and business closed, accidents everywhere you looked.

the "good ole boys" were telling her, "miss Lori, y'all cant go out in this, y'll get killed" !

not realizing she grew up driving winters in Pa., and had just moved there after 4 years in Alaska... 😂

For us it is easier to count the days we don't drive on ice.

It has been below zero for a week. It will melt and warm up.

Yes........it will last a day or two here and then melt.......but everybody is acting like it's the end of the world.........shelves at the grocer where I work have been raided to empty for the last two days..........storm expected to hit tomorrow (Sunday).......I will still be going to work.

So far some snow on the ground around the house and covering part of the windshield and hood of the cars, looking out toward the hay fields they are clear, but the pond top was frozen yesterday and now covered in maybe a half inch of snow. It's 15 degrees right now and high to be 24, overnight low expected to be 7 and 70% chance of more snow today, I know no big deal for a lot of you, but not what DFW greater metroplex area used to...

I hate to drive in DFW in dry weather.

If there was ice on the road I'd park and watch the circus/demo derby.

I grew up on an irrigation farm in the Texas Panhandle and have driven mud and snow enough that my wife is convinced I could drive in any weather.

Best part is I know when the best thing is to sit and watch the weather out the front window!!!

It is headed east, we have a winter storm warning starting tomorrow. That ice is lot worse than snow.

Well here we are a few hours later and it now about 12 degrees, the high of 20 was last night after midnight, spent the last few hours, starting trucks, tractor and filling the horse trough with hot water from the house...brought the garage cat into the mud room as the space heating in the garage wasn't keeping warm enough, chickens are in the coop hanging as close to the heat lamp as they can. gonna be colder tonight than I have ever experienced in the 31 plus years I've lived in Texas... I have said before I don't do well below 40 but dammmm! This is no fun, it's colder than my beer in the fridge and I like my beer cold. This is pic I took awhile ago from tractor, not a lot of snow yet (thank God) but colder than a witches teat! And more snow starting to come down as I look out the window! Need to go out again in about an hour to feed the horse one more time and make sure the chickens water and food aren't frozen... TOTAL RESPECT for you guys that deal with this stuff every year, thinking of selling the farm and moving to Padre Island!

Highest temp today here at our house was 25. We've been below freezing for 4 days now with probably 4 more to go. We had sleet and freezing rain overnight and the sleet and freezing rain started up again about an hour ago. However, the big snow mass is passing through the DFW area and headed our way here in the Piney Woods of East Texas. The prediction is 4-6 inches with more snow on Tuesday/Wednesday. Our main concern is keeping our power out here in this rural area with all the trees.

Here in East Texas the little snow we get is not too bad, you can drive on snow. What we NORMALLY get is freezing rain!! And thank God that does not last long usually. The ice was so bad in Dallas when i was up there my feet shot out from under me, and may have cracked some ribs again. Really feeling it today.

Yep big flakes been coming down for over an hour now, all my tracks from earlier are gone... I hope you guys east of us don't get this stuff. but it doesn't appear to be stopping any time soon...last i checked weather temp was 11 there are saying now overnight low 7, then a high of Monday of 15 with a low of -1 on Tuesday.... WTH I thought we were in Texas! This pic from about an hour ago and it's worse now. You can add an inch to this and it's still coming down!
