"ice storm" in central TX
today we got one of the rare events here.........an ice storm. went out to my car and had 1/4 wet ice all over at 2:00 pm...........lost power at 3:00pm............good grief..........this is a minor event where I grew up..........now, by Monday, they are predicting single digit temps and the largest snow event here since the 60's.......Oh MY.
We used to build igloos in my front yard.............oh well..........trying to stay off of the roads, because Kalifornia transplants can't drive right.

2 degrees here in Missouri and the snow is coming down

I live where snow is on the ground five months a year. This below zero and highs in the single digits is getting to me too.

We started out with one storm and a prediction of 4-8 inches of snow. Well that has changed. First storm 6-10 inches. Second storm gets here Wednesday and another 8-12 inches. Minnesota weather in Missouri!

We're going to get a sheet of ice down here in Broussard. Probably won't get above freezing tomorrow, and then the low will be somewhere between 11-20 degrees. Crazy stuff for down here.

Been in the low 20s all day in Austin. I worked until 6pm (they closed the store early). Roads were slick when I left. Did about 20 mph for the 3 miles to my apt. Now it's coming down. 4" - 8" predicted tonight. Maybe the second greatest snowfall in city history. Low in the morning a projected 7..........Tues morn.......a projected 3.
I grew up in Amarillo and am used to snow and ice (though it's been quite a few years) and can drive on it. It's the other idiots on the road that scare me...........this area just doesn't experience this kind of weather very often.
I'm going to work at 9am tomorrow and will try to take some pics of this rare event and post them. I must say........all the trees are still coated with ice and it sure is pretty.

Everything around here is pretty well paralyzed. Looking at the D/FW traffic reports on television, there are very few vehicles on the highways. We have power, and food, and no need to leave the house, so we are not.
It'll be cold, and it'll be challenging for a few days, but it'll soon be over.

It was -3 yesterday but got up to 7.
My wife told me I was nuts when I told her I was going to the farm to check things out there.
It was 3 this morning and 4” of snow with another 4-6 to come.
I’ll take the country roads home and the idiots can have the highway.

-24 here this morning. I went out to get firewood in my slippers and pajamas and stayed to get a picture of the sunrise.
Once your acclimated to it the cold is welcoming.

Snow and rednecks don't mix. Folks around Jackson, MS are losing their mind.

It was 7 degrees this morning in our area of East Texas (The Piney Woods), but it is up to 16 degrees at the moment with clouds breaking up and periods of bright sun on a real Winter wonderland outside!!!! It appears that we may have gotten about 6-7 inches of snow, although one unofficial report indicated the possibly of 9 inches in the area. Thankfully, this was a very dry snow, unlike the wet snow we got a few weeks ago that caused a lot of broken tree branches and power outages across the area (thankfully not us).
We didn't lose power during the snow last night, although the news reported this morning that there were/are rolling blackouts happening. The Weather Guessers are saying a possible low of 0 to 1 degrees in the morning, Brrrrrrr. Based on the weather forecast, we may be hunkered down until Friday or Saturday. By Friday we will have been below freezing, day and night, for 8 consecutive days, yikes!!!! We are running our heating system at 68/69 to minimize power consumption, which will hopefully help mitigate the need for rolling blackouts. Tonight might be a good night to start up the fireplace!!!!

The normal high here is 33. Yesterday the high was -6. It is -3 right now headed down to -10. I have about 6 or 8 days worth of wood left but it is supposed to warm up to 15 on Thursday. Tried to cut some last weekend but couldn't take it. It was -8 with an 18 mph wind.
We have several big dead Ash trees within 100 feet of the house so I figured I could cut some whenever I wanted, even if the snow got deep. Usually the basement holds enough wood to last until the middle of March but not this time.

Up here in New York State on the Vermont border, I went ice fishing yesterday. Augured through eleven inches of ice. Caught a mess of perch..
