So what is this real id??
Friday I was at the DMV getting my drivers license renewed. The perky young thing, with a big smile on her face asked me if I wanted "real ID". I had no clue what she was talking about. I thought my drivers license WAS real ID.
So then she started explaining that a REAL ID drivers license has a star or stars on it and I would have to have it by 2023 or I couldn't fly commercially.
This started to sound a whole lot like a national passport for traveling around the country. Am I right that this is just another form of government control?? So what is this new form of BS??

Yea, I got one in Illinois, has white star with gold trim circle. NOW, I am real and not fake,😐️ must have for passport, flying.

It will be that or a passport to fly. Since you usually have your DL with you, it’s easier than having to carry the DL to Drive and the passport to fly.

I have eightykakillion internet bucks that says if the federal government wanted me to fly to their building, they would get me there without a pretty star on my driver's license. Of course, that could depend on me wanting to go in the first place (or maybe not).

Do not worry about the deadline; it has been moved several times, as some states have been lax in making the transition.
The problem is: some states have had loose requirements for getting a drivers license, & this federal law requires a high level of proof of your identity, close to the proof you are required to provide when getting a passport.
I think that we should make "Real ID" required for all US citizens & residents. Think of it as a "virtual wall". Make it required for everyday business: banking, driving, jobs, medical care, education, federal benefits, housing, etc. Provide any covered service without Real ID, you go to jail. All illegals will get the word, & self deport.

Came out of the 911 commission. I have had mine for 9 years. The effectivity as a requirement for travel on airlines has indeed been pushed out several times.

Just another minor part of the "Patriot Act"..........which you can thank GWB for 🙄. "PATRIOT" I agree, it does sound better than "Comrade"....but with either term you still must march together as one.......so fall in line 😃

Got mine last year. It came with an RFID blocking sleeve and I was advised to use it. Even the credit card companies are doing away with the magnetic strip, why not the government?. Bob

A few years ago when I renewed I got the "veteran" stamp also. The veterans office in St. Louis had a wrong SS number listed! Took me months to get the mess corrected🤨

My wife got a letter from the Secretary of State (DMV) just before her license renewal came due. Said for her to bring in her birth certificate for the new type license.
When she got there with her BC in hand, she was then sent home to fetch her marriage license to prove her last name change!!!!! What a bunch of CRAP!

When I got mine here in NC last summer, just show them your PassPort and done deal. Same for the wife's.

I opted not to get one because of the RFID in it. In retrospect, I should have gotten it and then just disabled the chip.

Oh, sure- just write him a ticket. I'm sure he will show up for court.
Meanwhile, Virginia wants me to show them a mortgage statement to prove my residence. House is paid for- no mortgage. Oh, OK- then an electric bill. Umm- mine comes electronically. Uh- how about a water bill? Uhhhh- how about a well in the back yard? I plan to show up with my passport, my lifetime hunting license, my concealed carry permit, and my FFL. If they want more, I have my State Blaster's license

Try this one on for size 😊, a few years back my wife had to get all of her papers together for her new I.D license same as many of y'all are facing, the State tell her she needs a copy of our marriage license to prove her name was changed legally from her maiden name (we married in 1973). The local Judge in my County was a family friend had issued me the license at no charge as a "wedding gift", my wife's family lived in another County (where the church ceremony was held), she discovered after going to both Courthouses that no marriage certificate was ever filed in either place, not a copy anywhere...😯..😀. I'm not sure how all of that happened and she couldn't get any answers since all parties (Judge, Preacher, County Clerks) involved have long been dead. I thought it was funny and let her know it wasn't my mistake and apparently I was a free man, sometimes I have to remind her of that fact 😀. Seriously though, she somehow got it resolved through a lot of hard work without my help 😊, I'm proud of her for being a classy, religious lady, as for me, I guess I'm a scoundrel.

My wife's maiden last name was / is the same as mine. Can't even begin to tell you all just how many times that confused people.
She told me she agreed to marry me just so she wouldn't have to change her last name. There are times when I do believe her.............😜

My 3rd son married a local gal named Smith. A close name in my "tree". Also a very hard name to trace as there are so many! The gal did have a lot of family features in resemblance but the marriage only lasted about a year with no kids. Some hardships can be blessings in disguise!

The RFID is one way they have of insuring the ID isn't a counterfeit. You disable that, and they're going to call it invalid.
