    dx/dt is symbology for a "derivative", the slope of a line. In this case it's "x" over "t" so a line showing change in position over change in time is... velocity.

    d²x/dt² is the 2nd order derivative. It's the derivative (slope) of the first derivative (velocity). So the change of a velocity over time is...... the acceleration.

    d³x/dt³ is the 3rd order derivative. It's the slope of the acceleration, the change in acceleration over time..... or the "jerk".

    Thank you. Yes the third derivative of displacement with respect to time is a jerk.

    I must be a third derivative then, because recently I was a bit of a jerk. The only squares to interest me are meals and the only notes are post-its.
