Why are we paying so much for ammo on this site?
I'm not trying to ruffle too many feathers but as buyer's on Gunbroker we are just paying crazy money on things that we can get at our local gun shop for less money, when opening bids on flats of 12ga are $100 plus freight at least for me I can still get shells for around $7.00-8.00 that's a substantial savings over the opening bid and freight plus sales tax when tax wasn't an issue that helped. As long as we support and purchase these items the seller's are not dumb, why lower the price if people are going to pay. Just something to think about

Sorry, feathers ruffled.

We have learned don't like the prices just move on way too many new gun owners and horders prices set by demand
If you can get them local for less I would go that route with all the taxes transfer fees crazy shipping a lot of people are looking close to home for deals on firearms and ammo
My 2 cents buy what you can at decent prices I for one do not see it getting any better

Need some cheese to go with that whine?
Buyers set the price for most any item.

I was in a local gun shop last week. This place is always very busy and the have hundreds of guns. They had cases of ammo piled in the floor. .223, 7.62x39, .45acp, 9mm. Most of it was a dollar a round or more. Guys would walk by, shake their head and walk away. I was there about 45 minutes and I don't think I saw one round sold.
Sooner or later, prices will come down.

Ammo just makes scary guns more dangerous anyway

Pretty simpleā¦..donāt bid on it and donāt buy itā¦.
I live in an area where I can scrounge around and find what I need most of the timeā¦.but Iām retired and have the time to do it.. In the long run it is cheaper for some folks to pay higher prices as that may be the only way to obtain certain ammoā¦
Supply and demand sets the priceā¦.if you donāt like it. Well donāt bid on it

Free markets are self correcting. Things go up and things go down but as long as people shop for best prices it will all balance out

come on guys the fellow has a point, I think it outta be free, just like his guns he should give them away instead of sell them for money!!!!!!!!!!!!

at the last two gun shows near here there were many tables full of ammo. almost all of it was the stuff that wal-mart and academy sports are selling when they have it with a buyers premium of about 40% added. i personally did not see anyone buying.

We aren't paying that much for ammo on this site, or any other. YMMV.
We had the foresight to stock up prior to the defacatory matter hitting the rotary air mobilizer in the world of firearms feed and seed...

Free market. No one is forcing anyone to spend their money on Gun Broker. If someone finds ammo cheaper, they may go ahead and buy it.

If you were the seller and could only get a limited amount of product to sell, wouldn't you want to get top dollar for it? A business has expenses like utilities, payroll, taxes, etc... that must be paid out of the proceeds of the sale. When product is plentiful, they can get by with a small markup and cover their expenses by selling large quantities. When product is scarce small markups won't pay the light bill.
Our gun club has been scrambling for shotgun shells for the last year and a half or so. We normally buy them from distributers a pallet or two at a time. Even buying at that quantity we can't get your quoted $7-8 price, especially when freight charges are figured in.
I know prices suck and I don't see any quick end in sight. The big question will be how much prices drop if the demand/shortage abates. The increased costs of energy, raw materials, labor and more gov't regs will keep the price up even if demand drops. That $100 a flat price you quoted may be the new norm. Bob

And with the salaries that the Mods get, you'd think they wouldn't be so stingy......

Simple solution to this problem. If you think the price is to much, don't bid. A seller has the right to price his item at what he thinks is fair and you have the right to not buy if you disagree. Market conditions dictate price and right now quite a bit of ammo is hard to get.

Salary? You get a salary? I have to send Mark a bottle of good single malt every month just to be on here. He assured me that he shares it with all the other mods. š Bob

I would just be happy that if instead of minimum salary for participating we would get a nickel for every poster that comes on here and posts about ammo being too high, or shipping too high.
