I would use the 300 bucks as a down payment for something well fitting and dependable to save precious family.

I'd second the Hi-point, yes they are ugly, but they shoot, also like the revolvers idea. I have the cheap stevens in 12 gauge, but the wife won't touch it, she likes pistols...

Get a 12ga Mossberg Maverick. Take the butt pad off and stuff the cavity with lead shot in a bag. Just about a pound. Stuff with rags to fill the void, replace the butt pad. Use Remington Reduced Recoil Nine Pellet OO Buck. 2 3/4".
(I used a pound of cast double ended wadcutters wrapped in a dishtowel. Very high tech stuff here.)

What am I gonna do ? Go down to the local convenience store and prop up against the ice box, tell the gangsters to bring me a few to check out....they have great selections. 😀
