My wife got an electric car…
Interesting choice, she has been on minivan duty for 12 years so time for a change. Her logic is she just drives around in circles with the kids, to school & sports.
Im a bit hesitant but its actually a pretty slick car.
Ranges is around 260 miles or so they claim.
Audi E-Tron with the “S-Line” package, which is the sporty bits. It is dual motor and AWD. It will scoot!

COOL! Keep us up to speed on actual range/usage/issues please.

That looks sweet. We recently sold wifeys Audi convertible.
Audi builds a great vehicle
Is that the Q4?

It's nice......sell it after about 75k miles and BEFORE you have to replace the battery pack!😁 I think EV are ok for a lease, but long term ownership like I do(300k +miles, an EV will cost WAY too much).
If your the type to trade in every 3-5 years, then I'm sure an EV would be great, but I bet the resale value drops a LOT when the batteries get close to their end life span!

Dual motor? Is that one motor on two drive wheels or two motors running all four wheels through a differential system?

Im wondering about the cold weather and how it affects things?

I think it has one motor per axle, as he said it is AWD.

Nice looking car. Even looks like one. There was a snippet about a Million Mile Tesla on the puter earlier this week. Guy only bought tires for it. The motor went out in it along with the battery pack. Both replaced under warrenty.
Some years back l worked a shutdown at Catawba Nuclear Station near Rock Hill/Charlotte. They have a 1913 Detroit Electric.
The car is really neat and is quite quick too. lts 4 passenger with the seats facing each other. No looking over your shoulder to back up. Simply move to the facing seat. All the controls are on a tether. similar to a small outboard. The motor was mounted directly to the driveshaft. Batteries were 6 Sears DieHards. l think they said the range was 50-60 miles. Most interesting item was the original battery charger. lt was HUGE, App the size of a fridge.

Duh! I guess reading comprehension is not my forte this week!

I'm sorry for your loss. My true thoughts would not be acceptable.

OK, Warbirds, now you need to wire her up a 220 charging station in y'alls garage.

Like others have mentioned, I'm interested in the actual range. I don't know where you live but A/C in the summer and heat in the winter must affect range. Keep us posted.

When you charging batteries try to avoid the fast quick mode and keep your temperatures down is the best advice I could give anyone with an electrical car with batteries.Air cooling vs liquid cooling is another factor to look for when buying one also.

It looks sharp!

Looks nice but out of my price range.

Seriously, do you have a 220 charging station in your garage?

All-electric cars might make sense for people who drive only a few miles from home, to commute, or who drive only occasionally. And in places where the power never EVER goes out.
Other folks need a gasoline car -- including a hybrid, which IS a gasoline car.

Nice looking car, I hope she enjoys it.

I have nothing against the concept of electric vehicles, but I feel the loony left is all wet for promoting them in the name of the environment.

I wonder how fuel prices will be affected as electric vehicles become more prevalent. Those of us with gas guzzlers may be forced to electric because of exorbitant fuel prices.

I think I'm gonna buy a few used diesel or gas powered TOW TRUCKS! Might be a good return on investment! 😁

Yes- I ordered one, they call it a “Level 2” charger. It should be here Saturday and I planned to wire it up this weekend.
That was $500 for the unit and I guess Ill spend another $100 hardwiring it to the breaker box & adding a 50 amp circuit breaker. (Im going to mount it about 20 feet from the breaker box).
I can share a few pics if you’re curious.
I am really interested in the actual useful range. We calculated out on my wife’s busiest day running around, she hits 75 miles in one day. So I believe she will always have plenty of margin. Now what will happen when she goes to the beach for the day or some other excursions? Time will tell but Ill track it and keep y’all posted on its performance (or lack thereof if that’s the case).

Electric car is like a bikini: looks good in the warm sunshine but not so much when the snow flies.

No I was just curious because I wired one up for my brother's Tesla. We used a 220 dryer receptacle from Lowes, it cost 18 bucks.
Brother gets 23 miles per hour of charging.

What's the resale value when you are in the market for another and how high will electrical rates go when most electrcity is made by N.G.? Heard yesterday N.G. is going up 40% instead of 20 % because of a hot summer and no reserves. Who could have know right?

I've been accused here before of being pedantic, so here goes. Not that it matters but, ordinary household current is no longer 110/220 volts but is now 120/240.
3 -
That is the type of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put.
3 -
Arrant yet! Even more of which to have pride.

Give me a break, Gott im Himmel! I am a log builder not an electrician.
Next time I will say 240. And 120.
0 -
Yet NONE measure exactly 120/240 with a meter! 😱
Just sayin'

My wife would make a excellent candidate for a EV she only averages 3 thousand miles a year on her vehicle round trip commute for her is 4 miles maybe when she wears her Pilot out 20 years from now we might look into one
