I think at 17,000 feet it is safe from a 30 cal bullet. Unless someone flies an airplane up a lot closer. I would be more afraid of all the idiots shooting at it now and the bullets returning (what goes up, must go down) to earth that any supposed debris from shooting it down (what moron at the White House thought that lie up).
In the time after New Years I would respond to calls of bullets being found inside people's houses. In trailer parks, bullets found on top of a bed, and a corresponding hole in the ceiling.
Have you looked at any map of Montana lately? Not many people there.

I know that China has admitted the balloon is one of theirs but I wonder how it was first identified as to being from China? The 2nd balloon is flying somewhere over Latin America.
Those shifty buzzards are up to no good IMO!

Not 17,000 feet. It's at 70,000 feet. SEVENTY thousand. That's twice as high as most commercial airliners fly.
We could get it with an air-air missile from a fighter, but that's all. And it isn't over Montana now, either.
Link to how difficult it might be, for those who think just putting a bullet into it would work...

The Dang thing was floating around above us yesterday.... We are about 50 miles from Whiteman AF base and it would have passed over it too. Tried to get a pic of it, but not enough lens to pull it off.....

My 2 cents, let it be. The media and our so called leaders are using it for publicity stunt anyway.
The Chinese and all our enemies have far better way to spy on us than using a balloon.

Just for clarification, didnt know I needed to spell it out, a .30 bullet from a JET.
It was at 60,000 ft at that time. Our fighter jets, some of them, can reach that altitude easily and take it down with their guns.

Not a .30-cal. It was an air-air missile. Guns would have had no effect. Read the article at the link I posted above.
Besides, none of our jets use .30-cal anything.

China is trying to send us some of them Back Ordered car parts to the USA.
Our first parts order is off the coast of Kalif on a ship and Brandons appointed transportation secretary Pete BUTT igieg cannot bring the ships into port due to his husbands family issues.
Now that the BALOON shipment is SHOT DOWN auto parts will have to be ordered again.
Adds new meaning to the term, IT"s on a SLOW BOAT FROM CHINA.
