Not sure why you would be calling this chili.

    Uh........................................................Because it's Chili.

You must make that Beanless variety, suitable for Hot Dogs. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Perhaps you would be willing to post your Chili recipe?

I always like seeing how others cook things and add to my Recipe Files."

I see these packs of Carne Picade every day. They sell like crazy. It says on various packs (red/orange sticker) "Good for Chili," "Good for Nachos," etc. I decided to try it. The quality of meat is several levels up from Ground Beef. (What I usually use.) I think it will be very good.

Seriously. I'd appreciate your recipe. (Or anyone elses.) Love to cook and like to add to my files.

Thanks @BobJudy, these Heathens wouldn't know good Chili, if it bite them in the Butt. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜

Good lord Ken. I sure hope the high wind predicted for the next 24 hours is coming out of the south.

GB friends, can we start a go fund me page for Buddy. Pretty sure he needs an O2 generator and gas mask to live through Ken's cooking and after effects.

Yes Sir. My Butt is definitely "Biting Back."

    I Love Hot/Spicy food.

I laughingly refer to the next day or two as Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."

    *Buddy is fine. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

Well, the Carne Picade browned up very nice. Diced onions tossed in to each of 4 small batches to brown/sautee'. (Small batches are key, or you are steaming the meat.)

Quality of the meat looks very, very good. Everything in the Crock pot heating up, coming up to a vigorous boil. (It will take 2-3 hours.) Used two small cans of Rotel diced tomatoes with Diced Jalapeno's and garlic. A small can of green diced chili's. Large can of dark red Kidney beans and a small can of Pinto beans.

Carroll Shelby Chili, Spice mix. Used the whole packet of Cayenne pepper. Whoo Boy................

    Looks/smells good. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

Iโ€™ve got a recipe for chili, I call it crying chili, not because itโ€™s that hot but after eating it people cry for more. I usually use deer meat but you can use beef stew meat in stead.

1 can of kidney beans drained

    1can of pinto beans drained.

1can of Ro-tel diced tomatoes & green chiles.

    1 can diced tomatoes.

    64oz. Campbells tomato juice.

1 large white onion sliced then chopped into 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces.

    chili powder 1 Tbs.

    ground cumin 1tsp or more

cayenne pepper 1/4 tsp, or your discretion.

    4 medium bay leaves

1/4 cup brown sugar or more

    2 pounds lean ground beef

1 pound stew meat, deer or beef cut up into small pieces.

Everything goes into a pot except meat, meat is cooked and drained and then put into the pot. Bring to boil then lower heat and simmer 1 hour. After and hour taste to see if additional spices need to be added to your taste. Remove bay leaves. ENJOY.

Caution!!! May cause flammable methane gas.

Pop corn... I see what you did there๐Ÿ˜„

Your recipe does not sound too far off from what I am cooking @waltermoe. (Except for the brown sugar.)

Glad to hear I am inspiring others here, @William81, to cook it up. I like cooking good food and eating it. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

Life is too short to eat crappy food.

@KenK/84Bravo The purpose of the brown sugar is to retard the burn of cayenne or hot peppers and leave the taste of the pepper. If ever you bite into a dish that is extremely hot, the quickest way to stop the burning almost instantly is to put a pinch of sugar on your tongue.

At least when it comes to chili, I have found that it actually tastes better a day or two after it is made! ๐Ÿ˜œ

I will just say that beans will get you disqualified in any chili cooking contest, and in Texas it will get you, well...worse.

All kinds of pot meals get called "chili" these days, including things made with turkey meat. They aren't. Chili is meat, onions, and chili peppers. Period. Chili con carne is "peppers with meat" It has never been called chili con carne y frijoles.

Will I eat a meal of meat and beans? Absodarnlutely. I might even smile slyly if you call it chili. But I know better.

  • papernicker

One of the decent carpenter foremans I met said the Texans would shoot me for the beans, as alluded to. He was a good one

    0
  • Brookwood

The reason Texans hate beans in chili is because the beans they grow there are way too big to fit in the pot.

Heck! Everything is BIG in Texas! ๐Ÿ˜

That's not a bean. THIS is a bean. LOL!

I knew when I started this thread, that including I was putting in Beans, would bring out the fringe element. Kinda like starting a 9mm vs. .45 thread. It's just expected. (And) It's All in Good Fun. ๐Ÿ˜

    Deep breath's @Rocky Raab, deep breath's. It's all good Brother. ๐Ÿ˜‚

My Chili, looks and smells Awesome. I let it cook overnight. Been stirred multiple times. About to have a couple/three bowls.

Off the Carrol Shelby Chili box, " Wanna bump up your Chili? Add chopped Onion or Green Peppers while browning meat.

Add a can or two of diced tomatoes. Add a can or two of Red Kidney Beans or Pinto Beans.

Top off your creation with Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream, fresh diced tomatoes or onions."

    Yeah, it's still Chili. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

    *Flame On.

There are beans that are planted, grown, harvested, packaged, sold, bought, and consumed, all with the name,,,,,ready for this,,,

CHILI BEAN . That's right the chili bean. And it goes into,,,,CHILI.

When the South begged the North to give them the recipe to chili it contained beans. What happened to it after that is just a guess.

Was just going through my copious amount of canned goods, (Many Milk crates full.) trying to organize things, there it was - "Chili Beans." ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Maybe they should called RR Beans. (Right, Rocky?) ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

*Oh, by the way - I've lived all over the Country, including the SW. (El Paso, etc.) I've had Chili with beans and without. My personal preference? Take a wild guess. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿค—

I have posted this at least once before, since this "discussion" comes up about every3-4 months and it is getting really boring imho, however the following is from the International Chili Society's rules:

Traditional Red Chili is any kind of meat, or combination of meats, cooked with red chili peppers, various

spices and other ingredients. Beans and non-vegetable fillers such as rice and pasta are not allowed.

Preference is not given to either cut meat, ground meat, shredded meat or cubed meat.

Homestyle Chili is any kind of meat, or combination of meats, and/or vegetables cooked with beans, chili

peppers, various spices and other ingredients. Homestyle chili may be any color. Beans are required.

Preference is not given to either cut, ground, shredded or cubed meat. Seafood is allowed.

Chili Verde is any kind of meat, or combination of meats, cooked with green chili peppers, various spices and

other ingredients. Beans and non-vegetable fillers such as rice and pasta are not allowed. Preference is not

given to either cut meat, ground meat, shredded meat or cubed meat.

Salsa While no set of ingredients is required for the preparation of salsa, it should contain chiles. Other

vegetable, fruit, spice and herb ingredients may be added at the cookโ€™s discretion. Salsa MUST be homemade

by the contestant. Commercial salsa will not be accepted. Salsa may be prepared ahead of time or on site.ย
