    I've had two. No problems.

    But Google "perforated colon".

I am overdue for one. (Thanks for the reminder.)

It's an hour + (ea. way) for me, to the VA. Gotta line up a ride, since I'm gonna be sedated.

The prep is the worst of it. Day of is easy, like you said.

Overdue, MJ. Take care of yourself. You only get one of you.

At my age you dont get them anymore unless you had previous problems!

There is also the Cologuard, non-invasive home test for those who don't want to go all the way.

My wife was a bit phobic about having a colonoscopy for several years and chose the above every 3 years. Finally, her doctor talked her into getting the real deal last year. All was well and she is glad she went through with it.

Had one and Doc said to come back in ten years. I have used Metamucil for 40 years and I believe it helps. Also, Doc said with the consumer intake of alcoholic beverages it is recking people's digestive system.

At my last annual physical, Doc said I'm done with colonoscopies. Have my next one this week, and expect him to confirm that. Turning 77 soon and had one every five years since 55. Always clean. My wife's Dad died of colon cancer. It is not a nice way to go. Based on that, she will need to get them as long as she's around.

If you have never read this classic Dave Barry column about his colon, prepare to laugh yourself into paralysis...

My Moms last colonoscopy was at age 80.. The doctor recommended to us that she have no more. He explained that at her age and the fact that previous scopes had been negative the potential risks involved with further procedures outweighed any potential benefits. That was twelve years ago and she is still chuggin' along.

I was told for the last 20 plus years I should get one, but I said no thanks, The VA had me do the non invasive test every 6 months for about the last year and half, then said I had to have one done earlier this year, so I finally said OK, no issues found and do it again in 10 years. the prep for the test is no fun at all, but at least now I know for sure. Not in any hurry to ever have one again...

I'm like Rocky, have my last one coming up next month. I also get an endoscopy(?) going down to the stomach. I wonder if they did them at the same time, the two cameras would meet and stare each other down....

Had one a couple months ago...Doc told me see you in 8 years...

Yes, I have had the endo-esophageal down the throat tube, to look at/monitor my Heart. (Sedated.)

Now I need to get the one, coming from the other direction.

The "the two cameras would meet and stare each other down...." cracked me up. 😂

*You think they use the same tube/camera set up for both? 😮😣🤐

That's my way of doing it too, send me the minnow bucket, I'll fill it and Fed-Ex it back to you......easy peasy and the results always come back negative.

Hopefully accurate. 🤞 Those also do not locate any polyps etc. that may be indicative of a future problem.

    Just saying.

IIRC colon cancer is what Nord suffered with.

I've had a couple of the screens done. One thing that would make the whole ordeal a bit more tolerable is an easy chair with a terlit built in.

During one of my screens they had a group of interns in the room doing research. I hope their findings were acceptable.

True enough but I've accepted the fact long ago we're all going to die, just a matter of how and when, where doesn't matter. I should've been a goner several times over so as I see it as I'm on the + side, heck-fire even waking up daily is flirting with death. I've taken a yearly physical and a 6 mo. check up for the last 45+ yrs for personal and business reasons and highly recommend them but at some point a patient has to draw the line in the sand, my opinion Doctors love to drum up sales and services as much as anyone in any type business and that's exactly what medicine is...a business, a Big one too 😊 Just my personal opinion so y'all don't get mad and ban me 😀.

I've had three over the years. I'm 83 now and the doc said I'm clean and there won't be more. I'll die from something else. The same thing w/ the prostate. Funny thing about my last one - I was in the prep room, the nurse had my I.V. in, and the anthesthsiologist came in all smiles any happy-go-lucky. He told me that he had some great drugs for me. I'm no dummy despite what my loving wife says. He was just trying to put me at ease and I commend him for that. I asked him what it was and he answered propofol. After a brief pause I asked him if that wasn't the drug that killed the most famous child molester this country ever had. His smile disappeared and he said that he would carefully administer it. No more happy-go-lucky. Shortly after I woke up in the treatment room and he came in I told him that I was sorry for my joke question. I guess these guys really take their job seriously - which is a good thing.

I appreciate/understand totally, what you are saying @Junkballer.

Just trying to give the flip side to those Colon/Rectal test kits you send off, in the mail.

Well, I’ll tell y’all this. I believe strongly in being proactive rather than reactive with health issues when I can. Got my first colonoscopy at age 45, according to new guidelines. If I had not…..I would have cancer right now. Instead, a simple snip of the big 20 mm polyp, and I’m fine.

The prep and the procedure are a minor inconvenience at worst. Pretty sure cancer would be a bigger inconvenience.

Get your screenings…..colon, heart, whatever. Afraid of a procedure or what they could find? Be MORE afraid of what they won’t find if you never let them look.

Kudos, Frogdog. Well said and spot on.

The older you get, the more your Contacts pages fill up with Dr entries. And the flip side is, if you don't see doctors, you may not get older. The end might not be pleasant, either.
