Had a childhood fave: open-faced roast beef and gravy on bread with mashed potatoes and a side green salad.

    Fresh Atlantic.

If you can find some get some Sockeye. Even if it's frozen! OMG good fish.

I like Sockeye.. Scottish Salmon is my favorite but the price is about double that of Fresh Atlantic.

Santa Fe the chain Mexican supermarket has the caldo de res. It's pretty good. They use that odd squash chayote (sometime prickly and others not).

I did the beef shank osso buco style. It was okay but I doubt I'll make it again like beef bourguignon.

As for salmon King is best but one needs to take out a home loan to buy one. Sockeye is good but in my neck of the woods I never see it. I get Keta or Pink. Keta is way better than Pink (I don't buy Pink). It goes without saying stay away from farmed salmon.

I had to look up the Scottish Salmon. Turns out it's a farmed Atlantic. Interesting article..

Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull fame was into raising salmon. Not sure if he is still at it though.

A group of us ,lifelong friends who grew up together have a regular eating meeting. A member of the group cooks for the group every other week on Thursday . Been doing this for 25 plus years . Tonight was my turn .

6lbs of cubed venison ,2 lbs bacon 2 lbs smoked sausage cut in small chunks 5 lbs of cubed red potatoes . Slow simmered in a tomatoe based sauce . One large sweet onion cut up . Served over white rice . Side order of cheddar cheese toast. I use hotdogs rolls to make the toast . We hurt ourselves

Dungee crabs are on sale for $6.00 a pound and they claim "fresh". Bought the similar sale with "fresh" in December but I had a feeling it was frozen that time. I reckon by now the last season's freezer stock got moved so this time it might be "fresh"? The plan is basically shell out the crab meat and fold it into eggs with sliced green onions. Think Egg Foo Young without the gravy.

I wonder if I'll have enough crab by the time I shell it? You know like picking berries. One for the bucket one for my gullet and so on. I may have to buy a spare crab?
