BEST steak you ever ate, other than your own...
…these food posts are making me hungry…friend used to build million dollar+ homes in the DFW area…he was born in Odessa in west Texas, oil family…every weekend 4 of us would jump in his Suburban and take off with no particular destination in mind… Billy Scott would pay for everything…I was dating Shelby, his daughter, so it was Shelby, his girlfriend & me…one weekend we ended up in Buffalo Gap Texas at a friend of his Steak House…you could look out the windows and see future steaks grazing.😁…he raised, butchered his own beef…the absolute best Ribeye I have ever eaten…grilled over Mesquite that he cut on his ranch…now I'm hungry…

Angelo's Steak Pit, Panama City (haven't been there in many years, so may have changed). We complimented the Chef and he took us back to the kitchen to show us how he cooked them. We went home with a generous supply of his seasoning, and its been my go-to recipe for grilling steaks ever since - even good for venison steaks.
Texas Roadhouse is my favorite among the chain restaurants.

Bern's Steak House in Tampa …………….. without a doubt.

On a fall motorcycle touring trip to the mountains . Spent the night at a holiday inn in Greensboro nc. It had a bar/ pub / restaurant attached I had a ribeye that was the best steak before or since . That was over 35 years ago and still my standard to judge by .

I like my steak simple. Maybe a little salt before cooking, nothing else. I’ve had steak at Ruth’s Chris, and a couple of very high steak houses, but must confess that the fork soft stuff isn’t for me. I prefer a place like Texas Roadhouse where you get a nice marbled steak you have to cut with a knife and actually chew.

The original Rio Grande Station, just north of Cape May NJ served a blackened ribeye that was still rare in the center.

Spencers at the north end of Kalispell.

When I was a kid I thought the steaks at The Ponderosa were great !!! I have eaten much better ones since then. 🙃

Linda's La Cantina SteakHouse, in the city of Orlando Florida's outskirts, for a consistently really great, dare I say makes an excellent Ribeye, at a "reasonable" price. better than most high end places here in central Florida that charge a heck of a lot more for almost equivalent quality.

I don't recall any one stand out
Texas road house and tumbleweeds ?
The Two we vist and like
But I remember the 1st steak I had I was 18 yrs old
I Just Met a girl and we double dated with her sister
We Went to ponderosa when it was popular around 1975 looking back I remember wondering if I had enough money to pay for it as we made plans to go
At that time i was making 1.65 a hour that did not go very far when dating
Growing up at my parents house hamburger was as close as it got to a steak
I've never been to a fancy high-end restraunt for a truly expensive steak and don't see it happening .

Use to take the family to Ponderosa years ago in Middletown, NY. The wait line was always at least 50 feet long and out the door. Inexpensive and i thought not so bad. One day we showed up and no line out the front door. Too good to be true. Yep, they had gone out of business. What a shock. Do they still exist????———-Ray

we also had a bonanza, just about the same menu, just different name, both are gone now……..

After the Tulsa Gun Show........we liked to go to Jamil's Lebanese Steakhouse. They cooked a very fine ribeye.
But for the very best steak dinner..........I'd have to go back a few years, to the anniversary weekend getaway my wife and I had at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas. In the French Room we had their Chateaubriand for two.........the finest tenderloin I've ever had........not to mention, the entire meal.

A local steakhouse Montana Rib and Chop house. The steak is so hot and still sizzling on the plate when they bring it, regardless how cooked.
Other places from the past. As mentioned, ponderosa, bonanza, outback. Do you remember Flaming Pit? That goes back to my childhood 60's-70's.

If it not a ribeye from Texas RH then it is a ribeye from Flemings steakhouse.

The quality of the steak is 90% the cow and 10% the cook.

The best steak I've ever had turned out to be Buffalo! It was served at a VFW Hall.

We finish ours (2 Aberdeen angus and a Galloway cow, angus bull) on grass and beer mash. The mash is a waste product for the breweries and they're happy to have us haul it off. Sure makes for a tasty tender steak!

U.S. Air Base in the UK, 1969. There was a Congressional tour, including the Chow Hall. Low and behold they served us steak…I think it was steak. On one side of mine was an embossed picture of Fess Parker in a coonskin cap…with stitching marks……😮

I can picture ole Andy Devine ordering a couple of those plate size steaks in the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"
On the cuff (which meant for FREE) for the town sheriff!😁

Oddly, it was an Emu steak at a place in S.W. Missouri. It tasted like the best cut of beef you can get, but without the fat. I have looked for them elsewhere ever since with no luck. I know that place was in the path of the Joplin tornado and the buildings were all gone. I can't remember the name of it to see if it is still around there.
While not the same, when I was in Alaska, I discovered reindeer sausage. I loved that stuff. I ate it nearly every meal while I was there. I want to order a bunch and have it shipped.

ST Elmo in Indy. Rib Eye , just a bit over rare. Even 30 years later a I can remember r it. And the Shrimp cocktail was great (on fire sauce).
Would have cost me a weeks salary. But was a favor owed to a law firm (testimony).

Mountain Holler in Bakersville, NC. May be a disaster next time.
I have eaten enough beef to sink a boat over the years and they have been the best I have ever had. They are not a chain store.

Cattleman's in Oklahoma City. Hands down the best steak I have EVER eaten. About 3 inch thick fillet and you could cut it with a plastic spoon! Very good price too, for the amount of fillet you get. That was 10 years ago, so im sure its doubled in price now(thanks Joe!).
If you ever within a 100 miles, it would be well worth the trip. The surrounding area is very shady however, so I wouldnt linger if you stray a few blocks.

Doe's Eat Place, Little Rock, Arkansas. One steak fed three hungry men. 3 1/2 to 6 pound Sirloin you can cut with a fork, cooked to your specification. $27/lb, but worth it!!!
