I'm 74, best way to thin collection (rifles, handguns, black powder)
My guess is that DIY on Gunbroker will get the best price, however I would trade some price for less effort on my part. I'm not interested in a lot sale to a gunshop, so it's individual sales. Shipping bothers me, especially if muzzle loader not to a FFL - how do I know if Buyer is not violating purchase laws? am I on the hook if sale goes sideways legally?
Here are lists of some relevant factors I'm considering:
Methods:
- Gunbroker: the various services offered
- Local sale to gun or pawn shop
- Local gun club sale on bulletin board, etc.
- Word of mouth locally
What I like: (no particular order)
- SImplicity
- Getting reasonable price
- No hassles
- Local sale to gun shop
What I don't enjoy:
- Packing and shipping
- Possibility of sale and shipping violates some law

I would not sell to a pawnshop because they really pay about 50% of wholesale around here.
Local gunshop, POSSIBLY consign? most don't around here.
Or just list what you have to a local gunshop and let them give you a bid for your lot.
Gunbroker, you have to do the work. BUT we have a couple dealers on here like Nunn and Locust Fork who would take consignments.

I am lucky in this. I have a son, daughter and three grandchildren that will inherit my firearms. I will specify in my will by model and serial number as to who gets what. That way they can blame me when I am gone if there are any issues. I will leave a list of firearms that I never want sold (Family ones that have been passed down and sentimental value on others). I believe they will honor this but if they don't I will never know, or I may just come back from the after life and haunt them every night!

Do you have any glocks in your collection.

What's left are distant cousins that have zero interest in guns. Otherwise that would will them out.
No Glocks. The last gun I had an inkling to buy was a 10mm Auto Glock but never did.0 -
