Short Barrel Porting
Have a 3" S&W 29 (Lew Horton) that is not fun to shoot (I'm 81, enjoy watching “Matlock”, etc.). Was wondering if porting would sufficiently reduce effects of short barrel, 44 mag shooting to warrant having it done. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

while porting on a short barreled 44 will mitigate a bit of recoil, overall it will not make it feel like a comparable 357 revolver, without the porting. so no I would not waste the time of money on it, I have a 5.5" Ruger super blackhawk with the ports, it does make a big differance in this revolver , I believe that it handles recoil better due to the grip type and a little more heft and barrel length.

Many thanks. I've changed grips and put another box of 240gr mag through it and am getting used to the abuse. I will take your advice and leave the barrel as-is.
