We're gittin' old Jake.
I went to the V.A. in Reno, Nv. today for an eye exam. Very efficient and professional. But what shocked me was the condition of the other vets that were there. Very pathetic, some were alone, in wheel chairs, one guy was bent over so badly he could not see five feet in front of him. All were younger than me, but looked much older, I am 81. Most were dressed like a homeless person. Doesn't anyone care about these guys? Where are their families? When leaving they got another appointment ONE YEAR in advance. My dear wife said “I don't believe many of them are going to make that visit”. Dammit, just Dammit…. EZ USN-MCB-10 1964-1968

I see a lot of the same in Dallas and Fort Worth Eddie, My VA eye appointment is in November, which will be about 7 months from the time I made it…

Think it depend on the area you are in.
Nashville / Bowling Green seems to work fairly quickly. usually a month or less for standard appointments, quicker for other, if needed.
Community care can take a bit longer. Took 3 month for Eye exam. Then found out my cataracts were bad enough to have done, approval back in less than a week. Two weeks later both eyes were done and wow! Just need some readers now. Even fixed the astigmatism.

Glad to hear they did good for you Hoosier, and agreed it is very dependent upon location when it comes to VA medical response times. They did good by me when I went to the emergency room at Dallas VA, but the actual clinics I've been to around DFW area only do blood tests and proscribe RX after asking mental health questions which have nothing to do with the reason you are there. Everything else go to urgent care or emergency room and if you need to see a specialist like eye or hearing, you have to call for appointment and nobody answers phone or when you finally get to make one it is 6-? months out.
