100% intentional, in my opinion. To again quote that famous line from the movie Jurrasic Park, “they were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.”

Just make sure you have your life preserver on and you clear the ship before it goes under. You don’t want to get caught in the under tow.
