Demilled/Dewat WWII German MG-34 Machinegun
Currently residing in California and interested in out-of-state purchase of demilled/dewat MG-34 machinegun for personal display (barrel welded into receiver; receiver welded shut; does not/cannot cycle or load ammunition, etc.). Cannot find any state law or statute prohibiting purchase, receipt or personal (non-public) display of such item, but getting conflicting answers as to legality/requirements from local dealers, other forum "experts", etc.. Might someone here either know the facts of the matter or be able to direct me to a definitive, authoritative source for determining the facts of the matter? Many thanks in advance for your time and kind attention.

Best advice i can give is to consult with ca state attorney general . They should have the definitive answers that you will need. Seeing how much ca hates gun owners ,I would not rely on keyboard commanders, yeah even us for answes

A demilled receiver has been torched cut in multiple pieces, as the one your interested in has not been done. A Dewatt is a machine gun that has been welded up. As I recall when President Reagan had an amnesty to turn in machine guns back in 1986? You had a certain time to get your unregistered machine gun papered by the ATF and anything beyond that deadline would be illegal to own. Unfortunately Dewatt's were put in that class as a machine gun that could be restored, so it would have to be already registered with the ATF to be legal to transfer to another person. These are Federal laws on NFA items and supercede state laws, but certain states make it more than difficult to own a machine gun. At one time Sarco had BAR and Tommy gun kits where you could buy the kit minus the receiver and there were dummy receiver's available, buy those are long gone, which would be a legal way of owning one.
My last answer had “pending approval” so it couldn't be read, if Gunbroker wants lawyers to answer then by all means hire the lawyers or hire “experts” to approval these answers, I have better things to do then research this stuff and find my answers “pending approval”

You picked a poor time to come back. The forums are waiting to be put out of their misery, the last design change all but killed em.
Hope you have been well.

“You can't step in the same river twice” (pace Thrasymachus). I know a lot of the oldtimers have passed away or just moved on. Inevitable. But I fear that what has happened here has far more to do with GB than GB forum members. Best to you, redneckandy. Take care.
