Is my hole too big
Will a 6 inch (nominal) halo wafer led light fit in a 6 ½ inch hole, or is the hole too big ??

Can't answer that because I have no idea what you are talking about.

Hole's too big….

Well, with the light inserted into the hole, you will have a ¼-inch space all the way around the light. Unless you have a way to fill the gap, yes, the hole is too big.

Talked to my electrician. He said the 6 inch (nominal) fixtures they use, usually cut a 6 5/8 inch hole, so the 6 and a half will be fine, they can shave some out if need be. The trim ring will cover just fine. He'll be here this week to replace 9 existing can lights.

duct tape will fix it, it fixes almost everything but not this broken down forum , have not looked in in a while… surprised it is still on life support, it feels like a handful of guys wandering around in a deserted 100,000 seat amphitheater . sorry to see it like this ,but the plug needs to be pulled as an act of mercy. good luck to the faithful few that have kept the lights on, be well

If it comes down to it, give the other Joe a call. He can drill the hole smaller, and take that puny 3x4 whitetail, and turn it into a 8x7 mulie. lol!

FWIW, my last comment took 4 revisions to get it past “pending approval”.

I just did one like it about a month ago and it worked just fine. I had a dropped ceiling panel (2X4) with a can light hole that was 6 ½" and bought a 6" LED “wafer”. Fit the hole well and the ring covered all.-Mike
