Capital punishment as economical measure
I was about to post another thread on this topic but remembered I had made this one 10 years ago. Seems to me we need to clear out some prison space for treasonous politicians.
In 18th century England, pickpockets worked the crowd at public hangings of pickpockets; clearly there will always be criminals that wouldn't be deterred but those who have been executed sure wouldn't be committing any more crimes.
New York is still paying to keep the three animals in this original post in prison (I looked it up). Anyone want to wager on how "rehabilitated" any of them are?

I say bring back capital punishment for most violent crimes; it would save us a lot of money in the long run.

Once you work out the specifics, make that proposition a plank in your platform and you've got my vote. My main questions are:
1. Will there be a "lottery" system set up to raise money for worthy causes, so that everyone has the same opportunity to play "hangman"?
2. Who will determine the method of execution? For doubling the cost of the "lottery" ticket would the lucky winner be allowed to choose the method?
3. In cases of "firing squad" execution would the executioner(s) be allowed to use their personal firearms?
4. Is there going to be a group discount/will the drawing be like the old-time group permit for shooting anterless deer?
Hell, I have more questions than I realized!

They'll probably only serve a third of their sentences IF they keep their noses clean and stay out of trouble in prison. If they don't, then they do more of their sentence and so on.
Generally, inmates from the late 50's and early 60's are the only ones you read about who are still serving every day of their original sentences. The parole system and early release programs have been the typical inmate's "best freinds" since.0 -
Capital Punishment is a waste of perfectly good parts; rather than the death penalty for those teens destined to be problems all of their lives five them another option. They could be housed in a high security prison. Living conditions could be made quite comfortable with all the material things that the avoidance of Cruel & Unusual allows. In exchange for this high life style, their tissue types are noted, then when some decent person is having a health problem because his kidney is failing, or is losing his eyesight, or any of the other health problems for which transplant is a cure; then our hoodlum becomes the donor. Most of the parts that he'd donate wouldn't be life threatening, so he could continue to live on without the various donated parts. then when a match/request came through for a part that would finish him off, then he would be given all the Heroin or such that he'd be willing to die for, and then he would, then his body would be "parted out", those parts not immediately needed could be placed in storage status until a recipient was located. It would really give the gift that keeps on giving. 0 -

My first cousin was murdered 23 years ago. They caught the person who put two bullets in the back of my cousins head shortly after. 3 years after the sentence finally came down. He was sent to death row.
Now it is 20 years since his death sentence and he has a web site blog type thing and is (in his own words) got it pretty good. 3 meals a day and doesn't have to do dishes. Million $ + spent on appeal lawyers, investigations, expert witnesses, his housing and medical. He will likely die of old age.
There is NO justice in our justice system. It is simply a cash cow for lawyers draining public funds to keep cases going and going.0 -
