Put a visual line at the water line on the tank (so you can see the water level dropping from a leak).

If you want you can add Live Rock. But I'd first deal with the red slime before anything (adding more rock now will cause the red slime to spread).

Do you want coral more than fish? Now if I were going mainly reef/coral I'd buy two boxes of live rock (about 100 pounds). This is cheaper than buying bit here and there from pet shops (bulk buy is cheaper). This ain't cheap so that's why I keep yapping about your level of commitment.

Now you can get your fingers wet by cutting your teeth on fish only. This will be much closer to what you're used to (water changes and gravel vac). You also don't have to deal with chems and additives (strontium, iron, kalkwasser, etc) they also add up in cost quickly. And by going fish only you can skip on protien skimmer (since a good one will cost as much as your whole set up).

Have you read up on what type of biological filtration you might be going with as well as mechanical filtration? You might wanna join lots of fish/aquarium forums. Since your tank is glass I'g get a piggie back rig like ones made by CPR (protien skimmer and refugiums combo). Other companies makes the same gear or you can make your own.

When I ran my 125 gallon as a reef tank I used a Turboflotor 1000 in the sump, with about 200 pounds of live rock on top of a modified Jaubert plenum. This was the set up at the time. Now I could've ran this without a sump and maybe without the protien skimmer (the Turboflotor 1000) really didn't skim much. Now my level of commitment was crazy deep and I did much home work (it's easier now with so much info online).

There is some work involved (water changes, testing chemicals, etc) but once you get in to the habit it is really not that hard. I had about $1500 in mine but if you shop around you can do better than that. Start out with some clown fish, some rock, a starfish or two, and some peppermint shrimp. Take you time and get your water right before adding any rock or animals.

I had a 80 gallon that I sold when I moved. The thing I disliked the most was the noise that a skimmer and sump made. Very distracting in the TV room.
