i mailed my application for a C&R license to the BATFE today, along with the copy that goes to my CLEO, how long does the ATF usually take to approve and send my license to me?

or at least, how long did they take with yours? this might vary a lot. 0 -
I don't remember exactly how long it was, but around two-three weeks. You'll get regulation books and C&R eligible firearms book. I don't remember the webiste just now, but there is a good one for buying your A&D book along with a Personal Firearms Inventory bound book. Someone else will probably have that handy in a reply. 0 -
I just got my C&R renewed and it took about 3 weeks. 0 -
ok, thanks, i cant wait to start, so basically i just need to keep records of every C&R gun i purchase, in a "bound book", are these standardized or can it just be any "bound" book? 0 -
My original took about three months. Change of address about a month. Renewal about a month.

I applied in early December, they charged mt c-card on dec. 11th. I'm still waiting as of jan. 19th. The longer I wait the more difficult it will be to have the charge reversed (if necessary, and Im almost there) it's 38ish day's out. Someone(pj)said it took "3 month's" for theirs to show up (2-3 weeks according to mrs102). Guess I'll let it ride. Geeze I HATE doing business with the Federal's.
Blessed be Jeff Davis and pass the ammo.0 -
Mine took about 3-4 weeks. I cant really remember. 0 -
...about 45 days the first time...and renewals have almost always taken longer. The times will vary, consider who is looking/checking the applications. If your concerned call the office you sent it to, most of the south/southwest goes thru the Atlanta office.
...Check your 03 when it arrives for correctness! The first one I recieved several years ago, the address was one digit off, not valid. It took another month for the address correction and a new, correct 03 to be sent...[;)]

A friend got his about 2 months ago. It took just over a month from time he shipped out the application until he got the license. 0 -

Brownells sells the books[;)]0 -
You dont have to waste your money on a bound book. Just get a three ring binder for a $1 or so and print this form. Make a few copies of it, and you are good to go.

Actually, that method is NOT acceptable by BATF. I had an investigator at my house checking my C&R records and they were on those pages in a 3-ring binder. She said the binder must be PERMANENTLY BOUND and the only way a 3-ring binder was acceptable was if the rings were soldered together. I bought a "bound book" at http://fflboundbooks.com/ which meets all BATF regulations.0 -

No black helicopters. They can check your records once per year at their option but they will make an appointment first. Sometimes, you can even take your records to them.0 -
What about guns I already own? Will they want them added to my books? 0 -

No, only the ones you bought under your C&R license. You are also supposed to keep those guns stored separately from your other personal guns.0 -
So far cons are:
I'd need another safe
Record keeping
Inspections
What happens when I don't renew the license?0 -
Boxer, in that case, send all your guns to me (just kidding) If you do not renew your license, on expiration, send your records to the atf records section. At one time you did not have to, but that seems to have changed. One other plus, many wholesalers give discounts to holders of an 03 C&R FFL. You can send them a xerox of your license, ask to be added to their mailing lists. Happy collecting. 0 -
Thanks guys- 0
