Touchy Subject, Argument With Aunt
So last night we had a family dinner at my grandmas house like we do at least twice a week. I have a big family and we usually discuss politics and stuff like that. Well last night my aunt brought up the pregnancy of Jamie Lynn Spears who is 16 and unmarried. My aunts opinion was that this girl is a "s*lut" and her parents were "horribly negligant". My opinion was that may very well be true but that the only different between Jamie Lynn and many girls her age is that she chose to give birth and not have an abortion like so many girls her age do. My aunt said that was utterly not true, that "very few" girls in that age group get pregnant and much less have abortions.
I argued that the statistics say otherwise. I was pretty sure from what I had read that almost 40% of females in America will have an abortion by the time they are 35. At this point my aunt almost started to yell at me and became very angry at me. I had a good suspicion why. My aunt has 3 daughters. They are all in their 30's now but I remember very clearly when we were younger they all partied alot, did some drugs and had a reputation for "sleeping around". They were VERY attractive in high school. I love my cousins but statistically speaking that would put them in a catagory of "very likely" to have had an abortion.
So I did some checking. I looked up abortion statistics in America. According to my research 47% of American women have had an abortion by the time they are 40 years old. When you factor in some common sense you see that it is highly likely that if you had 3 daughters then one of them had an abortion.
I know for many of you this might be a touch subject, and it is. I just dont like the fact that in America we have to critize everyone else and at the same time deny or ignore the skeletons in our own closet.
If my pointing out some statistics about abortion makes you want to direct anger at me, let me point out I have never had an abortion, my daughters have never had an abortion (too young) and I have never been the cause of an abortion.
Before you pass judgement on Jamie Lynn Spears, can you honestly say the same thing about yourself ?

Alot has changed since those "Old Days". For whatever reason's, hormones added to our foods etc, people are developing faster and larger than back then.
Ever go to Civil War Museum and see the uniforms of men who fought? Most of these men were the size of modern day middle schoolers. And smaller than the average HS student.
A Modern 16 yr old girl is usually much more physically developed than most girls were even when I was in HS.
There's a reason beyond advances in childbirth medicine for the drastically lower rate of modern mothers dying during child birth. Back in the old days, these were actually not fully developed children having children.
I think the most interesting aspect of this Spears thing is that Jamie reportedly was living w/her 19 yr old BF. (or he w/her)
It seems fairly obvious that the children were the bread winners in this family. And therefore had pretty much surpassed the parents in authority.0 -

Abortion is a States Rights issue. I think it is wrong; but it is a decision of the States not the feds.
I also think your aunt "Doest protest too much". No sense arguing over dinner with your elder. Just nod your head and move on.0 -

why did she get upset? because she doesn't like that idea. duh.
that may be an a-v-e-r-a-g-e statistic, but it doesn't mean it's going to apply to her family. like telling her that a bunch of statistics show that they might be heoin users, drunk drivers, or "one of your dauighters will be killed by a drunk driver", one of them is a lezbo, etc. etc.

Being a Ba$tard, I thank God that my Mother had the courage to bring me into this world. She was young as Miss Spears at the time, never married, never even told my Dad till almost 29 years later and Never ever took a dime of Taxpayer money.
She says that "in the end" it really is the Womans choice, and she is right. However I think that in a healthy society Most women would choose to usher in the new life that IS a gift of God.
As far as Age goes... I was a rather Precocious child myself, and the Lord did say "be fruitful and multiply".
Also- well fed, well kept, and well bred people have always enjoyed long lifespans.
And a note to the Censors... I do prefer the term Ba$tard over illegitimate (a title no child should have to suffer).

LMAO. apparently the publisher has decided to put the book on hold due to the unfortunate recent circumstances involving the shaved headed divorced drunk/drug addict and the knocked up teen queen.0
